Have Celtic Got Stuart Baxter The Sack?

|

The Diary ponders why not?

This week saw the Scottish Exam board send out results to thousands of those hopefuls that don’t want to be third generation benefit slobs. Andy Walker and Pierre Van Hooijdonk – ex-Celtic strikers to varying degrees of success and memorable moments – would have Neil Lennon already getting a certificate marked :”Here’s how to claim Job Seekers Allowance”

Lennon’s culpability for our exit from the Champions League is up for debate. There is loads of factors to be taken into account most which point to decisions taken in higher places.

So, what about the once mythical Stuart Baxter? Last week it seemed that he was on covert ops and had taken a role he described as “a consultant, in inverted commas.” A role sounding so informal that it was wearing a Kerry Katona tracksuit.

Lennon seemed comfortable enough to confirm the appointment. The Finish FA had other ideas and within days there was embarrassment all round as Baxter declared “there is no agreement” to which Celtic wholly agreed.

This Finnish Farce has taken another development. It’s reported that the Finish FA have lined up Job Dragtsman, from FC Inter, as Baxter’s replacement just as soon as they get enough boxes from the local supermarket to pack his stuff.

Why Celtic are desperate to get Baxter is a wonder. Though a man who seems to model his look on Chuck Norris maybe great to have around. Are the board worried that a rookie manager making mistakes in public is too big a risk and want to be seen giving him a helping hand so they look blameless?

That’s the only guarantee we have with Lennon. He will make mistakes. Dependent on your view you can say our almost farcical exit from the Champions League is the first of those mistakes.

Then you must ask why did they give him the job? Here’s The Diary’s take. Celtic appointed Lennon cause they couldn’t risk losing anymore support. There was a ground swell of love in the room. The pursuit of Baxter confirms that the board feel that their gamble may need help on tap and not via Skype.

They may get their man without the ‘inverted commas‘ eventually. Though The Diary wonders what stone and how many they turned over to discover him. People have been searching for Baxter as long as Nessie and Big Foot.

In a groundbreaking brain wave The Diary wonders why they just didn’t appoint someone with experience in the first place. A decison that we won’t have been adverse to.

    Tony Mowbray had experience !

      @Kevin

Mowbray was at the top of the list of who would want the job. Ticked all the correct boxes. The only thing that you can garantee is mistakes from anyone.

  • Pat says:

You are a tool. How can you say our exit from the champions league was ‘farcical’. That is a ridiculous statement. We lost, so fuck?! It’s people like you who claim to support the club when you actually are doing it more harm by writing crap like that. Leave that job to the Scottish media.

      @ pat

I’m sure mrs blogs says tools are useful. Anyway, if you don’t call going into a massive game without your best player cause your trying to punt him, a 2nd rebuilding job in 6 months, the board trying to appoint a father figure that our manger deems not important andworst of us failing to strengthing the area of the team that most needs it as not farcical then what is?

Everybody seems to be taking pot shots at Celtic, some of them deserved but why oh why can´t we get a positive angle on our own websites?Yes we are all sad we are out of the CL.From what I saw of the match,Celtic never stopped trying to win,the only really annoying thing was,the commentators, the dentist guy that played for Celtic in the past, moan ,moan ,moan,”He should have passed,he should have shot,he´s a silly boy, they´re too far back,He´s on his own,he is never a fullback.”God almighty where has the “Come on lads ,up and at em´.gone,We the ordinary fans are not blind to Celtics failings,we hear and read about it in every paper in the country but in our own backyards?please give us a break.Bring on Bertie Auld,at least when he has something to say about Celtic ,good or not so good,he does it constructively and with a positive tone. By all means state your opinions but try and do it as if you want your team to do well, instead of”they´re all hopeless”I´m getting depressed with it all,”Not Celtic, just the negativity from the papers and SOME of our own web sites

      @ desso

The new guys look better than what we had, Mulgrew apart. I just can’t be positive cause it looks better written down when so many questions remain unanswered.

  • CheifInKorea says:

At the risk of becoming a regular contributor, I’d say the Diary’s take seems pretty accurate. Board looking to cover their arses.

Is Lennon’s lack of experience a problem? Is Baxter the answer?

Bigger questions is, “Why, whenever the dark side are in a mess, do our “custodians” manage to make us look like idiots???” When did Mowbray get the boot? March? And this still isn’t resolved!!

Come on Celtic, give US something to really smile about!!

  • Francis preece says:

I can’t belive so many fans were appeased by his appointment. (Lennon)
This move for Baxter is a complete joke!
Craig Levein might of been better to get us stable.
Signings look to be good but hell! Central defence and left back was the areas that Urgently needed filled.
At least were now good at road shows!

    • lordofthewing says:

      @ Francis

Those fans that were appeased will be the first to slate when he makes the mistakes that he will do. Unsure about your Levein though.

Swindon are in negotiations with Celtic pair Simon Ferry and Paul Caddis after the Glasgow giants accepted a revised second bid.
The Clydesdale Bank Premier League outfit recently rejected an offer of around £250,000, but a new deal believed to be in the region of £350,000 including various add-ons has been agreed, although the official figure will be undisclosed.
Midfielder Ferry, who spent last season on loan at the County Ground, and defender Caddis are expected to agree personal terms with the League One promotion hopefuls over the next 24 hours.
They would then be available for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest ahead of next weekend’s season-opener at home to Brighton.
Both players were left out of Celtic’s squad for their Champions League qualifier in Braga on Wednesday night, which the Scottish side lost 3-0.

we look in good shape, good signings (apart from mulgrew) we won at home in europe and we lost away (same as saint martin and strachan) we look as if we have some determination about us (unlike mowbray) and we have money to spend. get a grip you idiots, new manager, new team, it will take a bit to gel. seems alot of the fans are like our ex players, bitter, angry and thick as f**k.

we are about to have our best season in years,

we should all keep the faith and keep the heads high cause the losers on the other end of the city dont have a pot to piss in

give this new team a chance and act like celtic fans should.

we are celtic supporters faithful through and through, over and over we will follow you.

this is not blind support as some of you will claim, this is being educated responsible football fans.

to easy to act like a tim on this site. are you really blue clad imposters?

This is Celtic. give them a chance before you hide behind your keyboards and type your damaging words.

too many impressionable fans read this blog and believe what they read.

think about what you tyoe befoe you say it, I know

    • lordofthewing says:

      @ fake

Wanting the best for my team and having a difference of opinion now makes people thick as fuck and the tired old accusation of being a Hun.

      Touché and original.

Oh, the others do have a pot to piss in. Aye, we handed it to them a couple of years back

  • Oz Celt says:

Of course we are all Celtic supporters Faithful Through and Through, but we must not get into “The Kings Got New Clothes”syndrome. Surely we are entitled to voice an opinion on the games we watch?
I was/am all in favour of Neil Lennons appointment, but that doesn’t mean I will agree with every thing he says or does.
The problem I have after the Braga game was Neil’s comments about certain players. Now I can understand him defending his players in public, but for the life of me I just cannot see how Scott Brown could be descrbed as being “immense”, the same goes for most of the players on show last Wednesday. However at least they did show some semblance of wanting to “Play for the Jersey”,which is what we all expected Neil’s team to do. It is a start and I’m sure we will improve as the season progresses, and we get a settled formation on the park. In summary, we have to give Neil some time but, we should also not be blinded to the facts as we see them,Celtic supporters by and large know when their team is playing well and when its not, and, if they are not we have the right to say so more than any media”pundit”.
