Praying For Kayal

|

I once convinced a Scotland team that they were good enough to beat Brazil” mumbled Paw Broon before yesterday’s match up ( No-one thought to remind him that we got our ar$es felt in that game?). It was a headline writers dream. A small play on words saw Broon telling his players that Celtic weren’t Brazil.

We only had to be closer to the Blue Brazil to comfortably beat a side that Broon has taken the comedy factor out off. Think of Rab C Nesbitt in it’s heyday compared to it’s must recent reincarnation. It was a painful, unenjoyable and disappointing as in Diamond and the pony-tailed Vujadinovic they have plenty comic hope.

Us? Was asked sometime ago what type of team and style Lennon would implement on us. Yesterday, was my description. Dogged, determined and damn pleasing. We have been more artistic in our previous. There have been times when it looked like Lennon was working from the files that Mowbray had left in the managers filing cabinet.

While I love those games – it’s The Celtic Way innit? –  seeing us being organised, having a great workrate and looking like we give a monkeys shows more sign of progress. The reason? We have been a rudderless mess for years. That had to change. We are no Brazil but who wants to those samba dancing charlatans? Would Charlie Mulgrew get into their team?

Kayal is becoming a find. Though I wonder just who long it will be before someone complains about his prayer routine before the game kicks off. Open and public showing of religious beliefs is banned in this god foresaken backwater is it not?

McGinn seems to becoming Average Joe the more you see off him and is there a definite answer to the Ledley or Broon question yet?

Final word before youse get the only ‘highlight’ to be found and vote for your MOTM. Lizzy, stop your rolling around. It’s not cricket, son.

Canny disagree with this LOTW….to clarify ‘though….
McGinn is gash and I can’t for the life of me see what Lenny does…..total mystery.
    Broon and Ledley..??
Not a fan of the former…and disappointed in the latter..can’t wait ’til KI is back …that will solve one of the choices…..

  • Gary says:

Broon before Ledley any day of the week

    • lordofthewing says:

I’m the opposite. Ledley was a major player during our sprint start. He’s lost form not ability.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

Gary: yeah I can see where you’re coming from…Ledley’s been poor….
    I’ve just never rated Broon….

Its a squad game. The problem for us lies with the fact Broon is captain. I didn’t like that choice from the start and now I think he will get the nod for the sole reason that he’s got the armband. Ledley is a big asset for us. Can play left back if needed and is more than comfortable playing left mid. He’s a tidy footballer and in my opinion Lenny should and probably will make an effort to give him pitch time.Agree that Ki and Kayal would be the best 2 centre mids at the minute , but will Ki be tired/lacking in form upon his return? Personally I like that we have Kayal,Ledley,Ki,Brown and Crosas in our squad. Thats real options.

    • lordofthewing says:

You could play Ledley or Broon wide. But Ledley should be no where near left back. No one mentions the meccio 1 any more.

  • Matt says:

Kayal, Hooper, and Big Dan with hamstring issues 🙁

  • the_Torch says:

fair play Ledley isnt ideal at left back , just saying that he is a useful member of our squad and I worry thst when everyone is fit that he will be treated the same way as Juarez.I hope an effort is made to make him feel part of the first team , even if he isnt a stick on to play every 90 mins.
The lack of a reserve league is seriously hampering a team like us.Juarez, Crosas,Misun (assuming he is nt injured) and the likes cant play their way back into the managers thoughts. Surely something should be done about this.

    • lordofthewing says:

Those with money issues saw the demise of the reserve league. Your now basing team selections on bounce games.

  • Pujol says:

Damning with faint praise, but Mulgrew is not the worst centre-half I’ve seen in the Hoops. Unless we sign before Wednesday, hopefully the defence that finished yesterday will start against Hertz. Now’s not the time for wholesale change (aka fannying about).

Paddy and McGinn at least made it more 4-4-2 than 4-2-4 for a change, but like you, I can’t see what Niall brings to the team.

    • lordofthewing says:

One of Lennons faults, so far, has been fannying about. If we sign someone before I reckon we will see a panic call and an ill-timed debut.

      Worst centre back. Paul McGuigan.

  • the_Torch says:

@pujol – I would love to see Lennon have the nous and the balls to stick Brown on the right. That would give our midfield a more balanced look I think. Especially against teams that can hurt us. Like on Wednesday. Add that to the way Paddy seems a little more comfortable with his defensive duties, and we could possibly looking at a slick unit , especially with the players in the wings should there be any suspensions or injuries etc. Also I would definitely give Mulgrew a chance. It looked as though the initial move to Celtic phased him. His dead ball abilities dictates that maybe he deserves a second go at it. I honestly think we are one center half away from the bones of a nice squad (is Kevin Wilson that guy? – haven’t seen enough to say). The big question for me is can Lennon grow as a manager quickly enough to keep pace with this emerging squad of players?

    • lordofthewing says:

My midfield for wed is Ledley, Kayal, Broon with Paddy in the hole behind Hoops an Stokes. Width supplied by Lizzy. I would tell Wilson not to cross the half way line.

      Oh, it’s fucking exciting.
