Two Goals That Made The PLC GO MMMM.

|

A few weeks ago we were told that lack of European football is bad for our income. Our income was over the £65m mark a few years back and the drop to under £30m was as shocking as the performances on the park.

The last time we danced the dance in Europe after Christmas was 2008 when we entertained the aristocrats of the Camp Nou. Since then we have plumb the depths. A Zooropa League campaign that the team made it obvious they didn’t want to be taken part in and the sound of Sunday morning after a cargo of Special Brew that was Utretch.

There was a few games last night that had us looking to meet our favourite German – at least I think he’s a German, surely only a German could be this anal? – Uncle Bert again. Some are looking longingly at Uncle Bert. I’m warning that we shouldn’t sit on his knee just yet.

The 2011/2012 season will see two Scottish teams get the chance to qualify for the Big Cup. It could get better as this years champions will be spared a qualifying round if this years winners qualify also via their league position. Plus, Scotland could overtake Belgium in the rankings this season if the European Snooker Champions win EVERY game from now to the final of the UEFA Cup.

With only one win in 19 European games the chances of that happening are none.

So how did those two places in 2011/12 come about? Like Tam in Still Game once said about the magical Toblerone: “It’s Swiss Bliss“.

Here’s the goals that caused this. One from a player punted to balance the aforementioned books.
