Celtic Deservedly Lose Skol/Dryburgh/Coca Cola/CIS/Diddy Cup

|

Good morning my fellow sadists.

Once again we ride the rollercoaster of doom with a loop the loop of gloom. Below are highlights (sic) of that mingefest that passed itself off as a showpiece event. Football was at a premium and one team adapted and the other couldn’t.

So, lets all guffaw at defensive buffonary worthy of the good name Celtic. Fraser Forster bemoaned the state of the pitch.  He called it ‘third division‘. A superb save in extra time aside I do reckon that he will be seeing plenty more of ‘third division‘ pitches in the near future.

These highlights (sic) prove that we took part in a game but we never turned up.

I can`t bring myself to look at the highlights. 🙁
The chance to win it was there just before the 90 minutes were up.We didn`t turn up for the 2002 Scottish cup final either. Yesterday was slightly better than that. Why do Celtic do this to us?

    • lordofthewing says:

This is why we love Celtic cause they do this to us! I see that those in the know and the delusional are saying that it was a classic cup final. That 2002 game was mentioned as well. Both games we were overwhelming favourites and didn’t show up. The 2003 league cup final, we lost that one but dominated.

  • boh67 says:

couldnt give a shit that we got beat yesterday, listen we didnt turn up, but, if we play the way we can play we will beat them everyday of the week. A poor poor result that we need to “take on the chin” and move on from. If we play the way we can play then the league will be ours and it will be like the MON era they pick up some cups we stroll the leagues(hopefully)

    Fuckin shite!

  • johnd says:

aye was only the wee cup… worrying that lenny couldn’t see to use stokes when we needed a goal… sammy has been top drawer against THEM but not yesterday… stokes would have brought fresh legs and a different threat to their auld man at the back.

a well, keep the faith, here’s to the league title!

    • lordofthewing says:

Lenny was hampered with his subs yesterday. He could only make one that wasn’t enforced.

  • bobocop says:

Martin is long gone, along with Sutton, Hartson, Petrov and the incomparable Larsson. Players of that caliber will never be seen together again at Parkhead. Even then that was only in response to Dick Advocaats’ big spending and domination. Rangers under Advocaat played the best football I’ve ever seen from any Scottish team but the cost was ruinous. The Celtic board are aware of this and will never risk their own money to provide the funds to dominate. They will release only enough money to get the job done, and not a penny more. As a Rangers fan that attitude from the board is a relief because under O’Niel Celtic, with proper re-investment, would have been out of sight of Rangers for 10 years. They really could have built a dynasty.

The PLC have backed Lenny this season. Still some rebuilding to get done. Yesterday, was just a bad day that all teams have.

We are cursed in that cup.

  • Wildrover says:

I was actually surprised how little yesterday’s defeat affected me..not to say I wasn’t annoyed. I just took it as an off day. We’re a better footballing side and have better, younger players..quite a few we’ve still to see the best of. It’s a cup game and anything can happen. I think a few players shit themselves and that transmitted through the whole team. Recalling Jock’s pre-match speech in 67′ about helping out a team mate if they’re having a bad game..that didn’t happen. Kayal, who was one of the better of a bad bunch, looked absolutely stranded a few times as he tried to drag us back into it. A good lesson all round and I don’t expect to see that kind of performance again.

Oh, and Forster’s not the answer for me either.

    • lordofthewing says:

I don’t want to lose to them at anything but I will quite gladly handle 1 bad performance in 5 against them. The Big Jock thing rings so true.

  • bobocop says:

As a member of the opposition I have to say that I think Celtics gutless performance was down to Lennon being in the stand. Cards on the table, I can’t stand the man but he definitely gets more out of his players then Mowbray did. Had he been trackside you would have seen a different Celtic. Unfortunately with that comes all the negative stuff, getting involved with opposition players, and not just Rangers. War with officials and over-aggressiveness. If he could learn to control himself and still be motivated then he could go far with Celtic. Whilst he’s yet to win a trophy he has a great games record which must be down to more than just jumping up and down and snarling. It’ll be interesting to see how the team goes, on results and performance, during the ban.

    • lordofthewing says:

The club had been gutless under Strachan and Mowbray. Lenny has installed some steel and had to show a young team that we no longer take things on the chin. He has over stepped the Mark at times but his team has reacted In the way he wanted. You may have a point that they are still too young and need a father figure close.

      • Wildrover says:

        Bobocop,

Your comment started off reasonably and then it descended into vitriol and hatred. You’ve done yourself a disservice sir, contrary to posts I’ve seen from you in the past that have been, mostly, well written and measured. I don’t understand why an opposition fan would be possessed by so much hate and smugness as to bother commenting on this blog anyway, but given freedom of speech, you absolutely have the right.

Can you give a definitive reason as to why you can’t “stand the man” ? Is it his will to win and passion for the game ? Why do you dislike him so much, other than the fact that he is the opposition manager ?

Regarding your comment on “negative stuff”, you seem to have a short memory regarding your own team’s discipline during our prior meeting. Perhaps you should consider your team’s disciplinary record before you criticize the opposition.

Your comments on our negative behaviour, and your poor grammar, betray your lack of education, and the directionless, contemptible hatred that goes along with it merely serves to underscore that conclusion.

  • bobocop says:

LOTW, how could a gutless team win 3 in a row? Strachan was never liked by Celtic fans but after a rocky start (Artmedia) he did deliver, with some painful interludes. You are crrect though in that a father figure would have helped. The whole situation of Lennons appointment leaves a lot to be desired in that Mowbray was a disaster and had to go but left the board with no obvious replacement. The Celtic fans were split about Lennons appointment and I think most people felt he was a stop-gap. There were other names bandied about which was not good for Lennon but once he was given the job it would have been wrong for the board to then appoint a mentor, so to speak. That would have undermined Lennon.
Wildrover, I can’t figure out if you’re at the wind up. My post was not hate filled, I merely expressed a personal opinion based on the mans actions over the years he has been in Scottish football. In that time he has managed to antagonise opposition players and coaching staff alike. I don’t recall any particular antipathy to any other Celtic manager, going all the way back to Big Jock, and if a Rangers fan had cause to hate any manager it would have been him. Nine years under the cosh. But then you know how that feels, don’t you? I certainly wouldn’t wish Lennon any harm, but in fact I hope he falls on his face, proffessionally speaking, as that would hand Rangers the title.
As for “negative stuff” all I did was highlight the downside of his obvious passion. I never called him an axe murderer or accused him of any vile act.
You also seem to have taken my comments as a personal slur when you state “our behaviour.” It’s perfectly clear that my post related only to Lennon. How you can construe those comments as “directionless, contemptable hatred is beyond me.
On the matter of indiscipline we could trade blows all night and not find a winner. Rangers were an embarrassment in the previous matches and several players and McCoist let themselves down. None of them however looked like they wanted to rip someones head off and if you want to see “hate filled” take a look at Lennons face during the incident with McCoist. If all you see there is anger then I’d suggest a visit to Specsavers.
About my grammar, I don’t see much to quibble with. I do note a spelling error, so I guess that does call my education into question. But, does it make me contempt ible, you decide brother.

    • Wildrover says:

I really don’t have the time, or energy, to pick apart your pathetic reply. This says it all though:

“None of them however looked like they wanted to rip someones head off and if you want to see “hate filled” take a look at Lennons face during the incident with McCoist.”

Congratulations, you’ve embraced the mentality that sold so many tabloids a few weeks ago.

You still have not reasonably justified your dislike of Neil Lennon, other than the fact that you seem to think he is overly passionate and antagonizes opposition players. Why do you think that is ?

    • lordofthewing says:

Apart from an 8 game run the last 18 months of Strachans reign were gutless and snidey.

You say the appointment of Lenny ‘leaves a lot to be desired’. Mmm the same could be said about your next incumbent.

The rest of the argument? Not enough time to pick the bones of grammar, speeling or hatrid. Must work.

  • bobocop says:

I have watched Lennon needlessly insult fellow proffessionals, taunt others about their wages and intentionally inflame opposition fans. I think he must be the most disliked footballer in the country, with the exception of Diouff. I think many Celtic fans are guilty of closing ranks round Lennon and refuse to admit their distaste at some of his actions. My comment about Lennons appointment is fair and bears no comparison to the appointment of McCoist which is an orderly succession and has the full backing of the board. Personally I have serious reservations as to whether he has the sort of character required to set himself apart from his workmates. Time will tell.

    • lordofthewing says:

There is times I read descriptions of Lennon and feel thAt I must have missed large swathes of his hoops career. He’s done nothing worse than yer average Novo, Savage or any other nark that entered the field of play but is subjected to the vilest of threats.

True, McMoists appointment reeks of dignity hopefully via dignitas.

  • bobocop says:

Now now LOTW, that’s a bit stiff, rigor in fact.
I agree with you on the conduct of the above mentioned, but they’re not managers, yet. Certainly the threats against Lennon and his family are a disgrace and unwarranted. I know that those making them are Rangers fans and I hope they get hounded out of the club fan base and deservedly jailed. The former might happen but the latter is highly unlikely as even tracing IP addresses to an individual is not proof that they posted the entry. They are true scum and are to be found at every club. Celtic may be further down the road to ridding itself of its malevolent element but Rangers are trying to do likewise with the first steps taken by footballing fans favourite, the one and only Graeme Souness. Like Roy Keane I don’t think he gave a toss for the religion, race or colour of anyone he crocked.

    • lordofthewing says:

Lennon is still to close to ‘Lennon the player’ and when he sees wrongs he feels he can sort them using the tact he had as a player. It’s worked. He’s grabbed his litter by the scruff of the neck and dragged us to redemption no matter the outcome of the remaining tin pots.

  • bobocop says:

Which is why I think his being banished to the stand was the biggest single factor in Celtics defeat. He has to see this and rein himself in.
