The Press Have A Blind Spot When It Comes To Lennon (Video)

|

Where you at the game caller?”

The predictable and frankly laughable outcry over Lennon’s friendly misdemeanor has snowballed into another predictable ‘witch-hunt’. It doesn’t matter that players, coaching staff and Bilbao officials state that the referee was a bit of a picky sort.

The press dressed down the old pictures of Lennon looking like the angry horny monkey and today has seen him described as ‘wound up‘, ‘humiliated‘ and ‘volatile‘.

As this has progressed the news feeds have been full of regurgitated quotes from Lennon’s official twitter, as quoted here yesterday, and most takes on the incidents seem remarkably similar, word for word almost.

One paper (sic)  try to paint a negative picture of the friendly by stating that in another attack on the Parkhead club, Bilbao officials last night complained that Celtic had not worn the Hoops during the match and had only attracted 250 supporters from Scotland.”

Unusual then for a partisan Basque news outlet to describe the game as a ‘Fiesta‘ and ‘A Marvel‘ if they are disappointed.

In a time of austere measures I fully understand that stretched budgets won’t run to meaningless friendlies so thecelticblog brings you footage of the incident for you to report on. But, maybe you would rather report blind?

The incident is 4 minutes in……

    LOTW….
Sometimes you have to stand back and reflect on things….
Now whether this particular incident has been “blown out of proportion” or “the ref. is indeed a fud”….matters not a jot to me…..
    ‘Cos given his recent behaviour(s),
Neil Lennon just shouldn’t be involved at all….
and if he needs someone to tell him this…I’ll do it….as I’m sick and tired of the opportunity’s he gives the Laptop Loyal and the SFA….
Grow up and shut up Neil….

    • lordofthewing says:

Greyfrairs Jobby has also given the Laptop lovelies plenty of ammo to call him unhinged. Bit he’s described as a cantankerous auld git and not a danger to society or the Scottish way of life.

  • Seoul Bhoy says:

I agree Mike. What is it going to take for him to learn his lesson? The media hate him, they are looking for any opportunity to plaster him all over the papers (for the wrong reasons) and what does he do? He gives them it every single time!

‘Screw the nut’ Neil because I can’t see the board putting up with it for another season!!

    • JungleBhoy says:

What a lot of shite Mike and Seoul Bhoy.

We are all Neil Lennon, every one of us has to put up with the shit in this country and he just happens to be the guy who can fight back, on YOUR behalf so how about you show him a little respect and get behind him, as CELTIC fans are supposed to do.

    • lordofthewing says:

Lennon is successful the board won’t bother.

  • Andy says:

Have to agree with the comments. If I was Peter Lawell I would be having serious words with Lennon, I really wouldn’t stand for this every single time. I dont know what it will Yale for him to learn his lesson. I love Lennon and the job he’s done in transforming the club in less than a year has been nothing short of remarkable. His passion is great and I wouldn’t take that away from him, but the minute it starts to affect the team negatively, is when he has to start being questioned.

    • lordofthewing says:

Lawwell I think loves this. Gives him the chance to roll out his pet QC to attack the SFA.

While your standing back and reflecting, why not reflect on the fact that Neil Lennon’s actions are over-scrutinised, over-sensationalised and picked apart by a media who seem intent on portraying him as some sort of unsavoury pantomime villain. The over the top reaction to incidents, and language they have used while pontificating in their newspapers about Neil Lennon’s behaviour has played a huge part in inciting the morons who have targeted him this season. Is his behaviour really any worse than that of Walter Smith who had to be hauled away after squaring up to Mixu Patelinen on the touchline, or Craig Brown who punched an opposition manager during a European game, or Jim Jefferies who routinely loses the plot, or what about Peter Houston and Terry Butcher who always seem to have something to say about referees, other managers or opposition players. What exactly is it that sets Neil Lennon apart from the managers above. Why isn’t their behaviour and character under the same sort of scrutiny?

The truth is the press would be having a go at Lenny regardless, if it wasn’t his behaviour they would trot out some other crap to criticise and undermine him. You just have to look at the way they treated MON, Strachan and Mowbray to know that. Instead of lining up beside the hacks to have a pop at Lenny why don’t you try appreciating what he has to put up with to be the Celtic manager. The guy is under huge pressure both professionally and personally, not only does he carry the weight of expectation for success from the support, he has to put up with snidey journos and pundits, who seem to have an unhealthy dislike of him for whatever reasons, relentlessly sniping at him, and on top of all that he has to deal with continuous abuse, death threats, suspect packages, living under 24hr security and having to flee his home in the dead of night for safe houses.

I ask you as fellow Celtic supporters not to jump on the media bandwagon by telling Lenny to ‘Grow up and shut up’ or ‘Screw the nut’ because it vindicates their treatment of him. If he was the only manager to exhibit that type of behaviour I would agree with you but he has acted no worse than any other manager I have mentioned yet seems to be the only one who has to pay the price for it. There are enough people criticising him, give the guy a break, and your support.

    Hail Hail.

    • lordofthewing says:

Your right to highlight others. But that is just banter and out of character to the lovelies.

  • Paul McEvoy says:

Telling Lenny to shut up without knowing why he got into trouble (Ie: what was done and said) makes you no better than the Scottish press and the SFA. You should be standing shoulder tae shoulder with our manager, not joining the queue to put the boot in.

  • lordofthewing says:

Lennon the manager is still to close to Lennon the player. He will channel it eventually but I don’t want him to change. The reporting and reaction an incident a friendly game has been laughable. I don’t give a hoot about friendlies.

The blog points out the misreporting of the game. Meaning the comments they make can be disregarded.

  • Seoul Bhoy says:

So who exactly was Lennon ‘fighting’ against in Spain? Did UEFA manage to find a Spanish hun to conspire against us and prevent us from winning a friendly.

Take the paranoid glasses off guys and try and view the situation objectively! Lennon getting sent to the stands in a friendly confirms to a lot of people that he is a loose cannon.

And LOTW he hasn’t been successful yet! I have no doubts the outcome of the LC Final wouldve been different had Lennon been on the touchline but we will never know!

    • lordofthewing says:

Come on? Success is just not measured in how many tin pots you win what he has done in the last 12 months, the style he’s brought in, the players whom we have secret man crushes on and the passion is a far cry from this point last year.

I leave the measurement of success in bobbles to those arses.

      • Seoul Bhoy says:

So by your argument then Tommy Burns would be one the most successful managers in Celtic’s history???

    • MC1888 says:

He wasn’t fighting against anything, there was no conspiring by anyone, maybe the Spanish ref was correct in sending him to the stand who knows, but that’s not the point being made. The point is if it wasn’t for the way he has been portrayed by the press and pundits in this country would we even be talking about him being sent to the stand in some meaningless friendly. NO, it would be a non event.

I will say it again, what is it about Lenny that sets him apart. His behaviour has been no worse than that of any other manager in the SPL like I’ve previously stated, yet he get’s crucified for the way he conducts himself. When Craig Brown punched an opposition manager during a European game the press and pundits made light of and joked about it, barely a word was uttered by them when Walter Smith squared up to Mixu Patalinen, Jim Jefferies, Peter Houston and Terry butcher have all overstepped the mark on more than one occasion yet no huge outcry, so tell me what is it Lenny has done to warrant such condemnation from the media, what heinous crime has Lenny committed that overshadows the actions of any other manager in Scotland.

It smacks of double standards by the press, there seems to one rule for Lenny and one rule for the rest when it comes to how to behave. But it is THEIR behaviour that is questionable, by wrongly singling his behaviour out from the rest and portraying him the way they do they have contributed in fanning the flames of hate against him. Could you imagine the outcry if he had done what Craig Brown did, they would be calling for him to be kicked out the game and charged not making jokes about it. Calling him a loose cannon and telling him to ‘screw the nut’ just re-enforces their claims. What’s paranoid about seeking fair and balanced reporting.

      Hail Hail

      • lenny4myth2 says:

your right, lennon getting sent to the stand in spain is more exciting to the scottish media than scotlands 2nd biggest football club dodging taxes FOR A DECADE! the country is ridiculous, were rangers not actually committing fraud? if it was a scrap metal dealer would people be facing prison? astonishing lack of interest by the press, their silence definitely makes no sense in terms of journalism. pathetic cowards the lot of them.

  • Seoul Bhoy says:

I never asked you if it was enjoyable I asked you if it was successful???

    • lordofthewing says:

Yes, it was a period that set the foundations for the MON years and stopping 10iar. Burns and McCann turned the club round.

  • bobocop says:

The media don’t hate Lennon. Quite the opposite, they love him because he sells newspapers and provides copy. In a week when there was no league or cup program there he was getting sent to the stand. What else were the hacks going to write about?
I assume in the photo at the top of the thread we’re looking at a group of Celtic fans, going by lack of suntan and some of the hair. They may be club officials or guests but they don’t seem particularly surprised or upset at the on-field happenings. Then again you don’t see Dr John, Peter Lawell or the rest going Benny when they’re watching the games. That’s because they realise that they’re representing the club.
The simple answer is though that the photograph has actually been doctored and the malicious media have air-brushed out the bull terrier savaging Lennys arse.

    • JungleBhoy says:

What else were they going to write about?

How about the rangers takeover, or their tax problems, or digging a little deeper into Craig Whyte’s finances, following him around and overturning every rock in his private life, as they done with wee Fergus when he was taking control of us?

How about devoting half the paper to the “CLUB IN CRISIS” with cracked badges and every little detail of rangers woes for people to pour over?

Even rangers fans I know are appalled at the silence in the media surrounding this takeover.

But yeah, they had nothing of note to report on except a friendly match in another country.

  • bobocop says:

By the way LOTW, Seoul bhoy is right. Success in football is only measured in trophies. You, however, are correct when you say all will be forgiven of Lenny if he wins the league. If he does it will be a quiet word behind closed doors. If he doesn’t he’s a certainty to get jottered.

    • lordofthewing says:

even if we don’t the win the league he won’t get his Harry’s. he has took us too far, too soon to be discarded. If he is it will be the worst decision this board has ever taken.

  • bobocop says:

Celtic are massively improved under Lennon. Tactically he’s developing but his passion and fight obviously rubs off on the team. He’s a p.r. train wreck though and his lack of control could de-rail him and the club. He has to win the league to keep his job. 3 in a row for a bankrupt side would be beyond the pale for the board, and the fans, who have gloated over Rangers parlous finances. The fans would be entitled to ask how that could happen. The board would blame Lennon, absolve themselves and, if heads were to roll, they would be Lennons and his backroom team.

    • lordofthewing says:

The finance thing is a running joke. 35m spent since 2008. Aye skint right enough. If it ends up 3iar then we have committed suicide again. It’s the Celtic way.
