Celtic v Aberdeen Player Ratings

|

Forster (7) – Quiet quiet game but was well positioned to deal with one Maguire header, much improved kicking display from the big stopper as he was sparingly used when the back four didn’t have a forward pass to make. Won’t have an easier day at Hampden.

Wilson (8) – Excellent display from our now solid very much first choice right back at the club. Solid in the challenge which led to Sone Aluko being constantly advised to play on the right instead of the much-preferred left. Also offers a terrific attacking outlet and set up the 4th goal and was very unlucky when his defence splitting pass wasn’t finished by Stokes. Looks like a whole new player from the Lennon days, God bless Mark Wilson.

Rogne (7) – Solid display from the young fellow which include a few key interceptions in the first half when the game was in the balance. Good and strong in the tackle and included a few great headers to prevent Aberdeen getting into the game and deserves a nod along with his defensive partner for their well executed line when Maguire was correctfully ruled offside.

Mulgrew (7) – Kept the Aberdeen attack in their own half throughout the 90 minutes and delivered some telling balls into the box from Corners. Credited with the first goal which was an excellently whipped cross into the danger area which finally broke the deadlock.

Izaguirre (8) – This lad is magnificent. It is very rare in world football that an attacking full back can actually defend as well has he can attack. Izaguirre’s composure is something else. He makes everyone in the opposition team look very silly indeed and his crossing is excellent. If we can hang onto this bhoy for next year then we’ll be doing something right. On Sunday it was just another excellent display from our bhoy who’s stock keeps on rising.

Brown (7) – Good driving display from the captain who keeps on plodding away this season. Certainly found his best position on the right of a tight 3 man midfield with the roaming Commons on the left. Brown won a few key headers and played some nice passes towards Hooper and Stokes as Celtic tried to break down a stubborn Aberdeen defence in the first half.

Kayal (7) – Controlled the midfield well and made some very good interceptions when Aberdeen were on the break, it isn’t hard to see that Kayal is a very influential player on the park for Celtic and is most certainly a leader in the engine room for the bhoys. Nothing ever fazes this lad and no matter how many kicks he takes from the opposition he always picks himself up and gives it straight back.

Ledley (8) – The more the season has progressed the more and more Joe Ledley has come onto a game, one criticism I have of Ledley (especially when I back him for the first goal) is that he doesn’t get into the box enough and seemed reluctant to do some before he finally popped up to beautifully fire home the SECOND goal. Ledley breaks up so many attacks and makes sure that the team keep ticking and most importantly has added some goals into his game at the business end of the season.

Commons (7) – Put some lovely balls into the penalty area in the first half and was unlucky Stokes didn’t make a better connection with one in particular. I like Commons, I think Commons is a far better player when he is constantly involved. When he keeps on getting the ball he edges his way into the game and adds goals to this team which is a very welcome concept. Dispatched penalty beautifully and hopefully that will make him number 1 Penalty taker at the club.

Hooper (6) – Very quiet afternoon for the fans favourite. He might not be at 100% match fitness but continues to harrass the defence and one very good off the ball run led to him receiving the ball in a goalscoring area and the Aberdeen defending kicking him and giving away a penalty. Didn’t get in amongst the goals this time around which means he’ll be in the mood come tomorrow night and Sunday hopefully.

Stokes (7) – My God this bhoy tried hard on Sunday. Missed a few very good chances including a penalty but he did make some very good runs and added a bit of kindness into his game which nearly led to a few more goals. Will be disappointed he never scored and will be hungry to correct that in the next few games if given the opportunity.
