Do What You Can Celtic

|

On Sunday, Celtic host Motherwell in the season’s 38th and final league match. It won’t just be any ordinary game, it will be a practice set up for the Scottish Cup final but more importantly, it could be the game that decides who wins the SPL title. Celtic must win and hope that Rangers don’t. Its that simple.

All Celtic can do is win and hopefully win well, thus applying pressure to our neighbours across the city who travel to Rugby Park. Recent history isn’t really on our side as 3 of the last 4 ‘last days’ haven’t gone in our favour but who’s to say this one will go Rangers favour again?

If Celtic win on Sunday, it will end a very good first league season for Neil Lennon and co. We’ve had an excellent season with very very few low points, but who’s focusing on the lows whilst we have a title to win? We DO have a title to win Celtic, so get out and make it happen.

In 2005, as a 12 year old bhoy I sat impatiently as the Celtic XI walked out onto the fir park turf. 90 minutes away from league glory in their first season without Henrik Larsson, an achievement which was grossly underestimated. Rangers were away to Hibs but that didn’t matter, if Celtic beat Motherwell it was all over and another SPL title would’ve been added to the trophy room. We had a Scottish Cup final to look forward to aswell but first and foremost get the league won.

Celtic started well and Chris Sutton put us ahead and after that Celtic bombarded the Motherwell goal for the rest of the game, Sutton, Bellamy, Hartson, Thompson and Petrov all played parts in moves that should’ve led to goals that secured the title for Celtic. As my 12 year old nerves got the better of me, Rangers scored at Easter Road, but who cared? We were still infront of the league was ours.

Then. F**K

Motherwell scored, a canny mind who scored for Motherwell, I think the guy might’ve ended up at Celtic for a wee while though. Motherwell scored again. It was my first real bitter heartbreaking moment as a football fan. I had seen men who were heroes lying on a motherwell pitch dejected and heartbroken like myself. Craig Bellamy who was an instant hero to all in green and white sat on the ground and looked like he wanted the whole world to swallow him up. I burst into tears. Setanta switched their attentions to Easter Road. The Tears flowed.

I just hope theres a 12 year old Rangers fan feeling that way come Sunday.

It was the day of David Begg`s finest moment. 🙁
Listening to the end of that match is easier to recall than winning the cup 7 days later and I was at Hampden! 🙂

It’s strange that you want us to take strength from a moment we all want to forget. 🙂
