“Just The Beginning”, The Greatest Fans In The World* & Some Peachy Goals

|

*As per EUFA 2003

I’ll start with what became an after thought. The game. We scored some great goals and played stuff that had your correspondent purring like a content cat. Only Gary Hooper could have ‘toe-poked‘ that goal, Sammy and Ki were a great combo for the second, Maloney was Paddyesq against his future employers and Paddy got in with a cameo strike. Satisfying performance. Very pleasing on the old eyes.

With Mark Wilson laying pole-axed and writhing in agony, The Green Brigade decided to start ‘The Huddle‘. The stadium, twitched and looked sheepishly at each other. It was like that moment when you had to pick a partner for the Gay Gordon’s at the Schools Christmas dance. There was a fear of rejection but really deep down you knew that your chosen Beau would say yes as you were better than Smelly Keith. We rose. We did.

Another iconic moment to go up there with ‘The Broonie‘ and ‘The Lenny‘.

A quick point. I have some sympathy for the monobrowed Mancs. I understand what it is like to live with a annoying neighbor whose fans have are frankly boorish. We have not stolen The Poznan. It’s been The Huddle for years. Like your introduction to success, youse are just Johnnie-Come-Latelys to this craze.

I notice some who must live in a pink fluffy world were posting the famous speech Al Pacino from Any Given Sunday in the hope to inspire our hopes of, what would have been, the biggest shock in SPL history. I think Lennon used the same scriptwriter……what else did you want to hear after losing the league but regaining your club?

There is a poll for the man of the match on the side of the blog. 5 Facts, Findings and Thoughts about our league season will posted over the next few days. You see, I’m tired and emotional* this evening.

we have to be honest and think, is lenny the man,,i dont think he is, what happened is we werent good enough to win the league,,commons should keep his mouth shut and got on with his football, not refs, or pitches, or media, we just werent good enough

Yes, we fell short. Were we good enough? I think we were but it didn’t happen. Lennon deserves another chance. Even a blind man sees that.

Commons did nothing wrong, if you read his comments you will see that what he said was taken well out of context, what he said was the squad was young, fresh and driven to succeed, he said thats why Celtic could win the title, just as gers players saying that their experience and that the players had won a title before was why they believed they could win the title, as usual only Celtic players comments were twisted and distorted.
Lennon has proved he is the right man, im excited about next season when i look at our squad. We finished on our highest points total since the o’neill era and got to the 2 cup finals. Lennon has more than earned our backing.

      • lordofthewing says:

Correct, Commons was no where near as bad as that ‘Sammy’ moment a few seasons back.

  • Gerard says:

Should we give Lenny another chance? Absolutely.
Looking forward to next season already and cant wait to see that prick McCoist make a complete cunt of himself now that his sugar daddy has fucked off.

Celtic were obviously good enough to win the league. A one point difference over an entire season
is a gap you could hardly slide a fag paper in. The league see-sawed over the season and could have gone either way. When the league is finished with half a dozen games left you can say “we weren’t good enough.”
On giving Lennon another chance I still think the board don’t want him. He was initially a stop-gap but exceeded expectations. That, and his popularity with the fans, was enough to get him a one year rolling contract. Why has he not been rewarded with at least a three year deal? Why have there not even been negotiations? It’s not much of a vote of confidence despite Reid and Lawwell giving vocal support. I don’t think Lennon would go of his own volition even if another club of stature came for him, which I can’t see happening.

    • lordofthewing says:

Celtic haven’t gave managers 3 years contracts since before Jansen.

      • bobocop says:

Was the blessed Martin not signed on a three year deal after which he went on a 1 year rolling contract because of personal reasons i.e McManus wanted rid of Ferguson and it looked like the post might become vacant.
Was Strachan not also on a 3 year deal?

        • lenny4myth2 says:

Celtic told Lennon, do well and we will give you a contract, dont do well and we wont give you a contract.Exactly what every other club in the world would have done if giving a rookie manager a chance under those circumstances.
