The Good, The Bad, The Ugly Of The Scottish Cup Final

|

The Good

It’s Cup Final Day. Not that diddy cup final, The REAL Cup Final Day. One that deserves capital letters. It annoys me when we don’t take part in the final day of the season. This cup does play a major part in our history. Tomorrow, could see it begin another chapter.

We deserve to be in the final. Berwick R*ngers, two games against R*ngers (one, which could be argued that we gave our best performance of the season and the other that proved that R*ngers were scared off us), then away trip to our bogey team then the Sheep in the semi. Not an easy run in any shape or form.

Murderwell seem to be on a poor run. Since they have got into the final they have not won a game, losing 17 goals in the process. Do they really think they are good enough to step back up to the plate?

Since, THAT game in Inverness we have been not too shabby.

The Bad

We have took all winnable competitions to the last day of the season. We haven’t won any yet. Until we do that then we can still doubt the mental strength of this team.

Kayal and Ledley being out. I’m going to keep on banging on about this. Ledley being out probably cost is the league. These pair are our heartbeat and a massive loss.

John Sutton. While I wouldn’t want him anywhere near us, he is a decent player in SPL terms. The family connection makes him dangerous and a headline writers dream.

The Ugly

Keith Lasley and Steve Jennings. They have been two of the dirtiest players that I have seen this season. Both should have been sent off in our defeat at the midden earlier on this season and Lasley should have walked for persistent fouling in the semi against St Johnstone.

I fully expect them to have sharpened their studs tomorrow. Jennings has put a bet on it.

Also, Motherwells Myth. Family Club my arse.

diddy? REAL? WHAT are you talking about, the real deal was the league mate and we couldnt win it,listen lets get our facts right, WE didnt win it cos we werent good enough, end of story, missing a pen against the huns, losing to DIDDY caley,,its lennon and celtics fault and if you gave me a choice i can assure you i would rather have won the league than be in this DIDDY CUP FINAL TOMORROW so stop trying to convince yourself,,wise up

The Scottish Cup has played a major part in our history. If your not bothered then feck off to the golf course or do some baking you wont be missed.

    • lenny4myth2 says:

Nobody has said this cup is more important than the league.

  • renfrewdave says:

jimmy echo your feeling on the choice of trophy. i would prefer the league as well. maybe what lord of the wing means is that he wants celtic to be involed in the scottish cup final every year as well as the league flag flying above celtic park for a week before the scottish cup.

    hail hail
    we are all neil lennon
    we are all celtic

    • lordofthewing says:

Yes, I want to win the league but I love Scottish Cup Final day. For those writing this off. Don’t. This is a massive moment.

  • Blackie says:

Jimmy’s right. The league is the most important and we lost it AGAIN for the third year in a row and to probably one of the worst TFOD teams of our generation. I blame the board .When we should have went that extra bit to virtually guarantee our superiority they came up short or turned a blind eye. They’ve allow that other team to stay in business when we could have completely buried them although I doubt they would have gone out of business , more’s the pity. No success for the last three years is their fault . I certainly won’t be back until their ambitions meet that of the supporters and not that of the bottom line on the books >

    • lordofthewing says:

I look back and reckon the board have made mistakes but this season they have backed the manager. Plus this worst for a generation pish. Assembled for close to £35m and just rolled home with the largest points total for 6 seasons. Aye, poor.

      • Blackie says:

LotW, so they spent £35m assembling a team they’ve got that money back and more by wining three titles in a row!!! What have we won?? . I certainly don’t advocate spending for spending’s sake but we want to be back where we belong and that means winning leagues and to win leagues we may need to spend a bit more in order to keep in front, our board haven’t done that or the manager ( TM in particular ) hasn’t spent as wisely as he should have( hindsight applied there ). The pleasing thing from this season is that NL seems to be learning by his mistakes ( I would rather he’s learnt his trade elsewhere and then come back as manager ( like TB did ). We do play some really tasty football but we are prone to seriously poor games (Diddy final and Caley games come immediately to mind )

        • lordofthewing says:

aye, they spent £35m they didn’t have , earned £30m that disappeared and now have been subjected to a fakeover that has seen the debt stay the same and more inlikey increase the debt……wait, I’ve forgot my point…..oh, aye…the board have backed Lennon.

        • bobocop says:

As far as I know LOTW Rangers have zero debt. £35m over 8,yes it’s 8 years since Le Guen signed Papac.
Earned £30m and millions more in transfers out. Blackie is right about the board. They should have backed O’Neil after the UEFA cup final but all they did was crow about the £20m European run. And that was when the writing was already on the wall for that expensively assembled squad. I think they ended up winning nothing that year and looked tired in the Scottish cup final.
Where you are right LOTW is that Rangers are a far better team than most people give them credit for. Their biggest fault is that they don’t play with enough urgency at the start of games and seem content to let teams make mistakes. Only after the split did they show what they were really capable of and in the final game, had they needed 8 to win the league would surely have gotten them.
Has the Board backed Lennon to the tune of a proper contract yet?

          • lordofthewing says:

So, while I was in Seville Le Goon was signing Papic? Aye, right.

Saint Martin got a 5 year budget up top. He knew the score. The Seville season we made a loss due to this.

        • lenny4myth2 says:

they won this title with less bias than usual but it was still evident in the way the sfa dealt with bogey and doof, not to mention how they suddenly turned into a team full of goal machines after the celtic loss at caley, after that the supposed harder teams in the league even managed to make kyle laffatme look like henrik, “odd” to say the least. and the reality is they were literally handed the previous 2 to save them going into administration, if celtic had mourihno, messi and gerrard they would have lost those 2 titles.

  • leolivi says:

While i hurt at loosing the league, lets get serious here. we support the team thick and thin, if not you should be elsewhere watching your football. Or are you just going to turn up when we do win. I feel that tomorrows game could be just the thing this team needs and if we can keep them together we can have many years enjoying the trophies mounting up. Lets get right behind the Bhoys and celebrate another success if we win. Hail Hail celtic till i die.

    • lordofthewing says:

Here, here in terms of progress this one is just as important as say 1995.

  • Jay says:

Saying it’s not a diddy cup was a reference to the League Cup, surely? Not the league. It’s disappointing we lost the league and slightly disappointing we can’t ruin the end of their season by beating them in the final but we deserve some silverware to show for this season, the players do and the manager certainly does.

As for R*ngers, they were terrible for huge chunks and massively outclassed by us in several games but they had a formidable end to the season and played some reasonable stuff during the last few matches. It’s not an excuse, we blew it, but they’re not as bad as we thought.

    • lordofthewing says:

The diddy cup is the league cup. I don’t get the confusion.

      • lenny4myth2 says:

neither do i, people seeing what they want to see instead of what was written, READ THE WORDS BEFORE COMMENTING BHOYS AND BARES

  • chiefinkorea says:

This game is huge. For all the love Lenny is receiving at the moment (though obviously not from everyone), if this goes tits up, I reckon that will change quickly.

This is a young team and they need to experience winning something in order to kick on. Also need to send a message that we aren’t bottlers. If the unthinkable were to happen, they would have a summer of doubts and the good stuff from this season will undone putting us back at square one again.

Of course we all wanted the league but it didn’t happen so today is vital. Come on Celtic!!

    • lordofthewing says:

I don’t think the groundswell of opinion will change. We are on the cusp of something. We are ready for the next step.

  • Bumble says:

Was talking to a couple of Cardiff fans and they were saying Ledley was missed and the reason they are probably not in the premiership or play off final!!!

  • Bumble says:

I wonder if some of the response to the Scottish cup final would have been the same if we had league and THE diddy cup! I look forward to final day more than any other. To have a chance to win any silverware it a great day and to be honest if you don’t agree why the F#ck are you a football fan???????

    • lordofthewing says:

Hampden in May should have a special place in every Celtic fans heart. Seemingly it doesn’t and some are brainwashed with the smatterings of league success.

  • ianin440 says:

Sorry for being a bit boring :-)but I have checked and this is my 23rd Celtic Scottish cup final(not including replays) and the tally is 16 wins and 6 losses so far. I`m looking for No 17 this afternoon. Come on the Celts!
Okay we all want the league but winning the cup is a great feeling. What ever happens the team is on the up and I have a good feeling about next season.
Ledley and Kayal are missed but Brown and Ki(and Mulgrew) have done well.

    • lordofthewing says:

This is the first Scottish Final I haven’t been at since 1985. Strange quirk of family fate means I can’t go.

I’m gutted but I’m there in spirit!

      Mon The Hupes!

    • lordofthewing says:

your not boring wanting to enjoy the day 🙂
