Different Stokes: Reason Why He Was Left Out Against Motherwell?

|

Our Irish striker seems to court controversy as easy as some of us find getting out of bed in the morning.

In a season that has seen him banished to observing the action in ‘big games‘ (where Lennon seems to fall for Samaras charms with mixed results), had his Dad say that he wanted to leave due to this then – right at the tail end off the season – he gets both barrels from Trappatoni after withdrawing from the ROI squad – citing tiredness – for the white elephant that was the Carling Nations Cup.

Trappatoni’s savaging against Stokes (and the attitude of young players in general, most of whom seem to quite happy to play the pampered rich boys card with regular occurrence) comes only 2 weeks after he was sent home by Celtic after breaching club rules before the final league game of the season.

As is usual under Lennons regime the team stays together the night before any game in a hotel. The choice before the Motherwell game was the Hilton in Glasgow.

The ever fantastic Celtic Underground Rumours Twiiter, spread some interesting news regarding the identity of other guests at the hotel that night.

I really can’t grasp what a young fairly weathly tattooed footballer would do when presented with a hotel bar full of Miss Scotland finalists. Maybe these pictures could clear things up?

Before you ask: “What would George Best have done?” think about this. Stokes is no Best and what if our management team had been watching Noel Hunt instead of Shane Long over the last few weeks?

This is all conjuncture. Off course. I’m not feeling the need to drown kittens yet.

We need more shagging and drinking all round, not enough of that these days.

My first impression was lucky bassa also….but surely playing for celtic would negate the need to try and pin a room full of wannabee wags?

Theres the door stokesy for me which is strange to say that about your top goal scorer.
Wasnt convinced when he first arrived but he seemed to have turned a new leaf with revelations about hiring a sports psychologist for being too ‘laid back’,in other words lazy bastard. His versatilty suprised me too as I had him down as little more than a predator.
But as the season wore on he started to fade with little fight and it says it all when Sammy’s deemed to have that more than you.
He got a second chance to sign for us and he’s blown it as far as Im concerned,he still got much the same bad attitude, wouldnt offend him as much to call him ‘deek II’ but he hung about like a bad smell for too long and I dont want him doing the same.

The reason we don’t want to discard and throw out is because there is a player there but there also seems to be an attitude.

I don’t know why so many people dont like Stokesy as a player, he has played well when partnered with Hooper, he scored enough goals and was unlucky not to have ended up with a league medal. He would not be facing so much criticism if Celtic had won the title.

    • lordofthewing says:

He’s not being criticised hes being pondered and wondered about why he hasn’t become the player he can be. Your winning the league take is off the mark.

      • lenny4myth2 says:

He has done exactly what was expected of him, he missed a good few games including several against rangers where sammy was prefered and could easily have had a couple more goals on his tally if he had started games sammy was prefered in. A lot of fellow Celtic supporters have been critical of him this season and personally i dont see why, he has joined a new club full of new players and made a strong contribution, he missed out on a title medal by the skin of his teeth, i have heard him be criticised, and my opinion is it’s unfair to criticise him too much because he had a good 1st season, yes he can improve, he’s not the only Celtic player who can improve next season, at least he has shown he does have the potential to be even better, i would be more concerned if he looked as if he had reached his peak this year but i dont believe he has.
I do believe he is unfairly criticised and i do believe he would not be criticised as much if the Bhoys had won the title. Im not saying he doesn’t deserve ANY criticism.

Sammy should never have been getting a game before Stokes in the biggest games, Sammy has got to go, i hope he finds a club and does well, he has the potential to do well in football but he just isn’t doing it for Celtic.

    • lordofthewing says:

Is Sammy playing before Stokes the biggest slight and harsher than any printed or pixelised words?

      • lenny4myth2 says:

I dont think Lennon left him out because he thought Sammy was the better player, he left him out and played Sammy because of the formation and style of play he wanted Celtic to go with, i completely understand Lennons thinking behind his decision, i just think Sammy was having a dreadful season and felt he couldn’t be relied on because he was so inconsistent, my opinion is Lennon should have went with Stokes whenever he went with 2 up front against rangers and with Hooper on his own when going with 1 up front.

        • The Harp says:

I agree with everything you say in all your posts above. The majority of the people who think Stokes should go usually start with “I didn’t like him when he came, I turned round on him blah blah blah” but then want to use anything they can just to say “I told you so”. Sad really.

          • lordofthewing says:

It was a running joke on here that he was signing weeks before he did. He done what I thought he would do. Score goals for us. After seeing him up close he is a better player than I gave him credit for but can’t help wonder if he is actually going to blow the lot.

We could try cutting off his below parts that are affecting his brain lol in my opinion he will go with sammy n murphy… hail hail

  • ann says:

i love anthony stokes hes my baby

    • lordofthewing says:

If you’ve had his baby I have the number for the CSA.

    • lenny4myth2 says:

Would be more realistic to have kyle lafferty as your baby, he genuinely likes wearing nappies and dribbles when he eats.
