For those wanting summer soccer today wasn’t the best advertisement.

The sun was shining but the players looked rusty and sloppy and the Hibs fans looked like they wanted to be anywhere else rather that Easter Road. I presume Portobella beach was packed today. Watch the needles and jelly fish kids.

In a bid to cheer them up, can I say they (Hibs) weren’t half as bad as I expected them to be. The term crisis has been devalued me thinks.

In the previous blog (clickly here) esteemed contributor to the comments, Wildrover, mused that Ki reminds him of Paul Scholes. That has to be discussed at length. In another blog (clickly here) Dalebhoy stated that Stokes would be our top goalscorer this season. Perfect start. Hope you have money on it.

We have the goals we have the interviews and we are two points already ahead of Hearts.

the new scholes,,,come on lads lets not talk rubbish, if he was he wouldnt be playing in our micky mouse league

As I said it needs to be discussed. Does he not remind you of him?

He is a similar type of player but not in Scholes league tbh, Scholes is highly regarded by all the top players and managers in the world, can’t see Ki getting near that level.

Not necessarily true, not many Korean players spring to mind with regards to overseas success, Park is the ONLY one I can think of and his impact at United with regards to appearances is very low. This is why Celtic are taking chances and searching unfamiliar territory as it’s the only place you’ll find excellent players who haven’t been snapped up. I think with an extended run in the team next to an assured tackler like Kayal or Ledley will show Ki to be seen by many as one of the best midfielders in Britain today, the same can be said for a lengthy run in Europe where Ki style of play will be more suited, rather than the em agricultural spl roughhousing. However that said the nature of the SPL and Ki’s naturally more European game clashing in his first season compared to now shows how intelligent he is as a player and his willingness to work and improve, as he bulked up and learned how to give it out as much as he takes it.

Any player that can keep the hold of the ball will be noticed. If we reach the Zooropa League he may turn heads.

      Jim –

Scholes is one of my fav players- sense the Ki comparision was more about some aspects of his game -very early days yet, but he will attract unwelcome attention outside our league if he keeps up consistent performances

how do you rate Ki on today’s performance?

      hail hail

      • lordofthewing says:

He was MOTM. His ball retention was immense. So unusual in the SPL.

      • Wildrover says:

“Sense the Ki comparision was more about some aspects of his game” – correct, so in that context I stand by my point.

I’m not comparing them in terms of overall level of ability. That would be daft given he’s still relatively young. Of course now he’s going to play a shocker in his next game and make me look like a twat 🙂

        • lordofthewing says:

Mayb he will dye his hair Rita Fairclough red again to strenghten the likelness?

  • John says:

Ki was immense as usual, I’ve compared him to Paul Scholes in the past, they are amazingly similar. Not saying Ki will ever reach that standard, but you never know. He’s so composed, his ball retention is first class, he can pick out great passes and his vision is outstanding. He’s also not afraid to get stuck in which is rare for a player of such technical ability, again similar to Scholes his tackling isn’t great but he’ll fight for every ball.
