    LENNON = HERO

  • Jockys pants says:

Who could we get to replace this guy?

    NO ONE!

  • Jimmy says:

Neil is right, the protective arm around his shoulders grows ever stronger by the hour. Celtic fans salute you.

    • lordofthewing says:

Will he ever be judged fairly? What if things go pear shaped will the bond mean a drawn out divorce?

      • bhoylondon67 says:

Fair point, truthfully i can’t see Lennon being anything but a huge success, but if the worst did happen i think Lennon has the integrity, respect and intelligence to put his hands up, be honest with the support and admit it wasn’t working and take a step back with his head held high. Lennon wants what’s best for the club as much as any of our fans.
I just can’t see anything but a bright future, look at the response from the players when he took on Mowbrays team, he has what it takes.

        • lordofthewing says:

Either do I but it was just a thought. But, what about their 15m warchest, Timmy?

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

    Articulate, dignified, truthful, …
he came across really well…and did himself and the Club proud.
Thanks Neil…may you go from strength to strength.

I shared this on my Facebook. Had a “friend” who is a rangers fan comment on it and felt need to share. This is what we are up against in society. This is an educated, academic and intelligent guy’s reflection after watching the whole interview.

    Ex Friend
o I had a listen to your Neil Lennon interview and I have to say I am not convinced by his claimed Rangers had a “non-catholic” signing policy at that time. I do accept that there may have been a policy like that earlier on but lets look at the facts. He signed for man ciity in 1989 making you think it was around this time, but John Spencer, a catholic, had already made is debut for Rangers in 1987. Do you think maybe Rangers had a look at him and decided for other reasons they didn’t want him. They did that with Kenny Dalglish and he wasn’t a catholic. I think Lennon has basically just said this for effect to try and add fuel to the flames of the argument that the only reason people don’t like him is because he is catholic. Which to be honest doesn’t really help the sectarian situation in Scotland or Northern Ireland.

    Me
o get real stuart. you think he thrives on death threats. Revels in the impacts it has on his friends, family and children. he wants to fan the flames and incite more. you off your head?

    Ex Friend
o If he wanted a quiet life he wouldn’t say anything. But my point was do you not think there is a chance there could have been other reasons rangers never wanted him. They have rejected far better players in the past who were not catholics
o rangers scouting system has made some very high profile blunders over the years like Dalglish and McGrain, both of whom were prodestants. So maybe, just maybe, Lennon was not taken on at Rangers because they didn’t think he was good enough. Lets face it Man City released him as well so it is not like he was a star who was certain to make it at that stage

    Me
o it seemed to me your point was lennon talking shite to incite more trouble and greif for himself. wither he was or wasn’t good enough is besides the point. Rangers have had a non catholic siging policy, of that there is no doubt, but that wasn’t the point of interview. it was showing Lennon as human, a normal guy. Not someone who deserves any of teh treatment he has received and please don’t even say he brings it on himself.

    Ex friend
o I think he could well have made the point that he visited Rangers with a view to signing for them as a kid, and left it at that. He didn’t really need to speculate as to why he wasn’t taken on, which as I have said is most likely because Rangers didn’t think he was good enough. As I pointed out Rangers have rejected a number of players on that basis who then went on to become far better players that he was. I think he should not have made idle speculation as to the reasons. Lets face it a more intelligent man would have seen the fact he was at Rangers at all as a big enough story without drying to make Rangers out to be the bad guy without a shred of evidence. Especially in the light of what I pointed out with John Spencer.

    Me
o i seriously thought you were an intelligent guy. Apparently all you want to do is to find excuses and catalysts to condone the abhorrent and absurd treatment this man has received. With blinkers and attitudes like yours, this country will never be rid of sectarianism. get stuffed!

I’m trying to find the letter that Lennon has from Rangers. I’m sure he was only 15 which makes it 86. Yes, rangers signed Catholics since but have they signed a northern Irish one or even an Irish one?

      • Brian says:

LotW, spot on, last year in one of the Daily Rags there was a list of Irish players playing in the SPL highlighting the influx of good Irish talent to this country and how successful they were all showing, guys such as Salmon, Rooney etc. They listed every player and consequently every Club in the SPL had an Irish player on their books. All except one, no prizes for guessing, needless to say that minor little fact which stuck out like a sore thumb was ignored by said article. A perfect opportunity if only to just say at the end of the article, “funny that” but then that was when the hand of Murray was at work.

        • lordofthewing says:

I’m not saying that was their policy but it was highly unlikely even if it was 89 that R@ngers would have signed a northern Irish catholic.

  • Stevie says:

Strange this interview had to take place outside Scotland. Wonder why.

  • jmccal10 says:

Jim (17/07/11 @ 12.04pm) – sorry Jim I disagree with your point. The reason you know 100 protestants who support Celtic but can’t name 10 Catholics who support rangers doesn’t tell you anything about the people, it does say a lot about the clubs themselves though. Just look at the Celtic mission statement, we are a club open to regardless of creed. That’s why you can name 100 Protestants who support Celtic. Rangers, until recently, had an anti catholic signing policy. Why would any catholic in there right mind support a team who clearly don’t recognize them as equals. That’s why you’ll struggle to find your 10 catholic rangers fans, their history will always block their progress in this area unless they do something radical.
