There is nothin’ good about this evening but good evening anyway.
So, what’s the beef in the world famous player ratings (with added manager rating) and one sentence summary? I must admit that it’s a sad state of affairs when the only emotion that you can muster after 90 minutes is: Meh!
Here we go, your thoughts are always welcome.
The Summary
The false dawn reveals a stricken sinking ship that hasn’t enough lifeboats for the number of casualties.
The Ratings
- Rating 5: Nothin’ to do
- Rating 4: Looks done in
- Rating 5: Uncomfortable on ball
- Rating: 5 Another crime partner
- Rating 1: Dragged into malaise

- Rating 0: Shouldn’t have played
- Rating 1: Praise before fall
- Rating 0: Uninterested Skippy Like
- Rating 0: Halloween invisible man
- Rating 3: Sure fire starter

i am very angry and frustrated. i cant belive some celtic fans r still backing lennon. it is clear he has lost the dressingroom and that the players r not playing for him. things r only going to get worse. how long do we wait till we do the best thing for celtic and sack the manager. lets be honest, do u c us going on a great run or do u c us throwing away more points every other week. when do we call it a day with the current management team ?…now please now.
as a great man once said “who is the more foolish ?… the fool ? or the fools who follow him ?
this cant go on we need change now !!!!

I will say it again, sacking Lennon changes nothing. They will bring in another cheap option as no manager worth anything will work with our CEO. This is it, unless a MASSIVE change comes.
Lennon walking on the other hand…..

I think we could have thrown any number of options at that today and got the same result. I struggle to see how Broonie would have added to today apart from maybe up the tempo.

Brown upping the tempo was exactly what the game today could have done with, when you consider Brown,Izzy and Commons are missing I don’t think anyone could argue they are some of our better and influential players, with Commons it seems something is up. With him and Lennon and it’s a big loss to the team that he isn’t playing like he did last season, if he had things would be significantly different.

The mgt team cannot manage – the “who would you bring in to do a better job” thing has a simple answer – anyone with management experience. The team looks badly trained, the injuries mount, the player purchases are (to say the least suspect)and the team lacks heart. However, the disorganization and lack of tactical know-how is glaring, there are managers in the third division who could at least organize the team.
No – Lennon must go and Mjallby, and A.T. also.

look i know someone who works with the squad on a daily basis and i tell u things r bad. lennon has lost the respect of most of the players. commons almost had a square go with lennon and hooper just wants out. and on a number on occations lennon and thompson have turned up stinking of alcohol in the morning. the players see this and cant belive how unprofessional our management set up is. the board must pay big money to attract a decent manager with experiance at a high level or worse is still to come. we cant continue to back a manager who is clearly on the way down.

The reason most fans, including myself, are reluctant to part company with Lennon is simply due to the fact that it would gratify that other mob and the media immensely.
There is obviously a massive element of loyalty toward Lennon from the fans but it’s time to stop letting that loyalty obscure the facts and do what’s best for everyone before this gets any more humiliating.
Honestly never thought it would come to this, but we’re becoming an embarrasment. Not even the impending foreclosure of castle greyskull can lighten the mood.

I would bring in O’Neill and have Lennon work under him for a year or two, would be a good move for everyone. I don’t think there are many options, I’d rather see the board back Lennon financially than bring in another manager who would want funds and a whole batch of new players, I would rather see Lennon given the funds to get in 3 quality players who should walk into our 1st team. These same players were unlucky not to do the treble last season, they have shown they are better than this, there are some really good players in the squad. I think Commons and Brown and Izzy not playing is obviously affecting our performances because they are all big players when playing well. Frustrating times for supporters. The pathetic performance by Collum today was just as disheartening as our teams performance, absolutely shocking, you know it’s bad when the commentators are literally cringing as they have watch such blatant bias, watching them squirm was almost comical. Who could replace Lennon and his rookie backroom staff?
Martin O’Neill – Worth asking even if likely to reject offer.
Paul Lambert – Worth asking even if likely to reject offer.
Roy Keane – I have a feeling Roy would be a huge hit with his take no nonsense approach although a bit of a gamble. Currently unemployed.
Steve Coppel – Four spells at Crystal Palace between 1984 and 2000 saw the Eagles reach the FA Cup final, third place in the top tier and a play-off success to secure promotion to the Premier League. Coppell’s six years at Reading were also impressive with a Division One Championship and an 8th place finish in the top flight the following season. Coppell picked up the Manager of the Year award for both campaigns and, despite relegation in 2008, still has a good reputation throughout the game. Currently unemployed.
Phil Brown – Did a great job with Hull City. Currently unemployed.
Alan Curbishley – Did a great job with Charlton for 15 years and strict budget contraints. Currently working as tv punter.
Kevin Keegan – Although Keegan’s return to Newcastle was not as successful as his first when in 1995-96 they were beaten to the Premier League title on the final day, his record as a club manager is still fairly impressive with promotions to the top flight with both Fulham and Manchester City. Currently unemployed.
I’m sure there are more!

I would hate to see him get the sack and the fans clearly want him gone, not exactly the ‘it’s just the beginning’of last May. This squad needs to be dismantled as quickly as possible starting with chancers like Brown. Sell them all while we can still get a small profit for them because they are depreciating at an alarmign rate. Any lunatic who will pay 3-4 million for anyone on our books needs their head looked. How about the former Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster? He won the La Liga title in his first season at the Bernabeu while playing an attractive style of football, much in demand by the fans after succeeding a certain defensive-minded coach in Fabio Capello in July 2007. Two excellent seasons at little known Spanish club Getafe.

I dont know much about Schuster, but he sounds like the type of manager we need- somebody that knows how to build a team and get the basics right, while still playing good football. A club like Celtic should be searching for guys like that all the time- even if it’s just for future reference.

Sacking Lennon may be the only option. The players must take their share of the blame (it’s huge) but unfortunately we can’t bin them all so as Lennon himself knows his head is the one on the line.
Last season’s effort shows it’s not a skill issue but it seems clear there are divisions in the squad and strained relationships between the coaching staff and certain players.
A new man may at least get them trying again. We may find out a good few of them have been taking the piss and should be run out of town.

This is certainly creative. But guys like him would not touch it with a barge-pole. Celtic will not pay him or give him a budget equitable to what he works with now. It has to be a relative unknown (in Scotland anyway). Someone who has done very well in a smaller league by regularly competing in Europe against bigger clubs with bigger budgets. There are a few. Celtic will be able to provide higher wages and a bigger budget. Thus becoming attractive.
The board need to approve wholesale changes to training , transfers and organisation. They must do so immediately or we could be looking at another 6,7,8 or 9 in a row. It is that serious.
They have been saved because of the Champs League money earned and will again receive a huge bonus because of Celtic’s mismanagement.

Getting back to the team guys it is quite clear that ‘the Celtic jersey does shrink to fit inferrior players’ and it has done for a good while. Ever since Mogga walked in the door and lambasted a team that had got out of the Champions League group stages twice the writing has been on the wall. What did Mogga ever win as a player? He was a poor centre half and a worse manager. Any manager who tells players they are not up to it and then expect those guys to go out and play for him is either an imbicle or incompetent. This game it is like the Godfather; ‘keep your friends close and enemies closer’. You tell everyone they’re great and gradually weed out the guys that don’t fit what you are trying to create. Lennon has just made the same mistake, and probaly his last. The guys that think its him he is talking about will now completely down tools and the other guys that are carrying them will realise that this is a lost cause. I really don’t care whether a manger is a Celtic man or not I just want a MANAGER who can manage. I said at the time Gordon Strachan was hounded out of our club that I thought that we would live to regret it. He was certainly not every ones cup of tea but he had a tactical nouse and could set a team up correctly. Can some one tell me what the point of Lennoxtown is if we produce a youth team that wins two doubles in a row and then nine of them are freed. The club is being run by professional business men in an amaturish fashion with no clue as to how football works with a piss poor business plan and that plan is actually making the club poorer by the year. We have just rewarded Kayal with a new contract one year into a four year deal to try and get him out of a strop when we have not won the league. This is rewarding failure!
We need to get a Scottish spine into this team and get some dig on to the park. Teams are playing round and through us far too simply.

I agree totally with the points you’ve made. I was astonished at Mowbray’s comments as well. He sounded like a man who had £50m to spend on top players. But all he needed to do to that squad was keep the best players happy and add the two or three new players that everyone knew were needed, the new players that the board should have financed for WGS.
I also agree that we need someone at the club who actually knows how to build a team, and we need some more Scottish fight in the side.

As for the “if we sack Lennon who do we replace him with” brigade – is there ANY manager in Scotland worse than him? I doubt it! You see Lennon isn’t a manager. He isn’t qualified and never was. You only have to listen to his embarrassing interviews with the media to know he’s clueless. I’m just surprised and angry its taken the majority of the fans this long to realise this.
Lennons mantra cry at the end of last season was “this is just the start”. Now the fans are asking “when will this end”! Lennon – do yourself a favour – walk before your faced with the indignity of being pushed out. Walk before you take Celtic down further, and please, take your useless bunch of rookie coaches with you.

Been a Celtic fan all my life and I’m ashamed at the violence yesterday that showed up on our doorstep. The fans age getting restless and I don’t blame them but lets take this outside and make a stand for change. I was never taken in with all the hype surrounding Lennon, his self arrogance towards intelligent fans is a disgrace. He’s “enjoying the challenge to turn the team around” and “every manager goes through these periods and I’m glad and stronger for getting through it” What utter pish to put it mildly. He’s lost the dressing room big time, the players have lost faith and rightly so as him and his team are not up to the task.
Rangers have a team spirit that gives them strength, belief in there Manager. we can only thank a Ref for playing six minutes of injury time never justified when only three minutes was put up on the board or we would have been more points behind when they drew the other week.
What I’d give to have Paul L in that dressing room, a genuine guy that would not talk bollocks to keep the fans onside. I shudder to think what master stoke Lennon trys this week in the media.
Lennon:
“We have all had a big talk and all is good, we are Celtic, we play with pride to the best fans in the world, did I say we are Celtic yeah ok. It’s a difficult time but we are through it and it’s great to see the fans behind us you know the ones that are real Celtic fans, who are the best in the world”
Yes Neil we are Celtic fans and we do take action when we feel the piss is being taken……

I do think this lost the dressing room is a simple conclusion in what is not a simple situation. Another one is that the players have just lost form.

Just a thought. I don’t know any Celtic fans who want Neil to stay. They all like him but still want him to leave for the good of Celtic. It hurts them to say it but despite all his love of Celtic and our love of him they see that it is not working.
Now since Neil is a Celtic fan why can’t he see this himself and offer his resignation. The only possible reason for him to stay is that he is putting his own interests before those of the team we love.
If he resigned with dignity we would all be able to thank him and sing his praise for years to come. The alternative scenario would be so sad, because he has tried, its just that he isn’t yet good enough.
