+++++No Appeal, Line In The Sand Moment+++++

|

The club have just announced that they have no intention to contest EUFA decision to fine us £12,700 for the ‘illicit’ chanting.

The CEO says:

“The heavy fine imposed by UEFA is an indication of the seriousness with which it treats such matters. We would re-iterate our own position that however small a minority is involved, such chanting is not welcome at Celtic Football Club.

Clearly, it is very disappointing and a source of real regret amongst our supporters that Celtic´s proud history of exemplary conduct has been tarnished in this way by such a tiny minority.

However, this is a clear warning that such behaviour will not be tolerated and together, Celtic Football Club and our supporters will do all we can to ensure that this incident is not repeated.“

This is a line in the sand moment. I would buckle up. This is going to be a bumpy ride.

Still unknown what chant is illicit!

Another own goal from Pistol Pete.

I said from the start that we wouldn’t appeal. It wasn’t even considered me thinks.

The undehand way that this has been served on us should have been cause for an appeal but the actual charge wasn’t.

  • Talksense says:

Patman, anything which mentions the IRA, or has add ons where they can shout “And the IRA” or anything like that.

    Simples.

  • sixtaeseven says:

Talksense, if it’s so simple why won’t the police (who reported it), EUFA or the Celtic board actually come out and say it.

By not coming out and saying exactly which chants/songs are illicit, the board in particular are being irresponsible toward toward the Celtic support.

    Not so “simples”, methinks.

I often thought that when it got to a point that we needed to be told what was up the game was a bogey.

I’m now thinking we need to be told and that is a massve slight on us as a support.

C’mon it really is a no brainer…..any mention of the IRA in songs or add ons are a non starter…..it really is that simple

    • Tim Alloy says:

There’s absolutely no point in telling the offenders and their supporters the facts, as they don’t want to be confused. They’re too busy playing wide-eyed innocents, pretending they don’t know what’s caused the fine, and passing opinions on what is and what isn’t illegal, as well as demanding definitions of “illicit” and “offensive” and other words they don’t understand.

“…C’mon it really is a no brainer…..any mention of the IRA in songs or add ons are a non starter…..it really is that simple.”

You’ve said it in a nutshell (not that that will make any difference) as they’ll STILL pretend not to understand, and continue to indulge in their usual “whitabootery”, as well as provide their penetrating insights into the legalities of the fine……They’d also be terrific at debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

The board have scored another own goal by not appealing, perhaps their biggest one yet.
We are now officially as bad as the other lot.

We are now officially as bad as the other lot.

Is obviously to anybody that we have been royally stitched up here, and they don’t contest it.

The huns are dying on their feet and they’re determined to take us down with them. The signs are the board are quite happy to oblige.

Talk about Sammy being an inigma inside a paradox…

    • lordofthewing says:

No matter if we appealed our not those the damage was done to those who view us outside the goldfish bowl. We are the same as them to them.

This could be our CEO’s parting shot. He has to regain control of the underhand tactics we have seen. Is this part of a masterplan for this to happen?

  • sixtaeseven says:

“Is this part of a masterplan for this to happen?”

    Can’t see it, TBH.

The problem is the Celtic “fraternity” is rudderless and has been for a long time. Today’s decision is driving another wedge amongst the support.

I’ve said before, I don’t like the chants and stuff but I can live with it. What I can’t stand is being taken to the cleaners, and it looks as though this is just a whiff of things to come.

The reality is a campaign by Celtic fans opened the pandora’s box about singing. Rightly or wrongly (and God knows it’s been done to death) some Celtic fans have been singing these songs for years. We have been looked at before on this subject and UEFA have not found us guilty.

What changed? STRATHCLYDE POLICE reported the Celtic fans to UEFA (whilst taking no action themselves). How can UEFA ingnore a Police accusation? And tbh the club were never going to appeal because they want supporters to see the harm they are doing to the club – somethign the club has warned again and again about.

What got us here? As I see it, it is DEFNITELY “whatabootery”. Basically we had a pop at them about The Famine Song, and to a lesser extent the BB, and guess what the establishment (politicians & polis) rounds on us and won’t rest until they “even up” things to use the words of the Convenor of the Parliament’s Justice Committee and MSP for Scotland’s ruling party.

Now they have a precedent they can point to, look for the fast track treatment for their “offensive words by supporters wearing green and white” bill.

And for those making this Lawwell or board thing – the club have been asking us for FIFTEEN YEARS not to sing these songs at Celtic Park…

Personally I don’t sing certain songs at Celtic Park because the club have asked me not to. I have been on blogs and boards saying we will get busted unless we play it smarter. Our club and our fans hard won reputation is now tarnished because some fans couldn’t do that.
