Scottish Police Celebrate Victory

|

Here is a link to the Scottish Police twitter feed. In the last 24 hours they have mentioned Celtic and EUFA a staggering 42 times.

It seems Eddie Smith and the lads are gloating over the outcome of their unprecedented behaviour, which seems strange as failing to arrest someone who you deem to be committing a crime could be seen as a massive fail when put into their job context.

The club’s stance will have added to their glee.

It’s 1 nil to the polis. Can we nick a win in Extra Time?

listen lads it could have been worse, they got fined 70 grand and an away ban, not the police, not anyone eLse, the idiots who chanted are the ones to blame,so lets just sing our celtic songs and irish folk songs, i live in belfast and never hear these songs till i go to celtic park, i grew up in the troubles, its all over and thats the way we want it, the only people who seem to want the trouble is the people who dont have to live in it,

    • lordofthewing says:

They had previous hence the bigger ban. It’s not like for like.

    • Stevie says:

Is anybody really sure why we’ve been fined because me like many others ain’t.

    • John South Wales CSC says:

      Hail Hail Tim
I agree. We have a wealth of songs to sing and chants about the ‘RA (whichever one) are NOT part of our history and heritage. In fact I wrote to the club 3 seasons ago to complain about a growing element at Celtic Park who were in danger of getting us branded the same as our City neighbours. Seems I was right!

      Superb! Well said!
I am a Scot, my ancestors are Scots, the nearest we got to Eire war the Island of Mull.
Coming from me, what you have just stated would have sounded totally wrong. Therefore I applaud your integrity and honesty.
Most bof the “fans” singing these songs probably have no idea of the ramifications they will bring down on the club I love.

  • mark says:

Very poor reporting & stirring up trouble. It would appear to be a news feed, not unlike newsnow. It’s not the police making these entries.

  • Jhimmy78 says:

This changes nothing. We had to accept the fine because it happened and as far as I’m concerned will hopefully stop the 1% of silly chants that some of our drunken over eager fans like to shout.

We’ll still sing all the same songs with the exception of a few words and we will still continue to support our team and the GB as we all still have issue’s with certain “gloating twits” and of course a certain terminal football bunch that will never change (easter road).

I’m a bhig fan of our current board btw and I think the way they’re bringing CFC forward (albeit we’ve failed to win the league in 3 yrs) is quite remarkable considering the state of the Scottish game and the current eco climate. I’d like to say well done for taking this charge on the chin as we’re all in a way responsible for the issue raised against the club.

Anyway we’ve got bigger fish to fry so lets forget about it and get on with the football. We’re still going on all 4 fronts and with transfers likely in Jan to bolster the squad its all to play for.

The futures bright in Green and WHYTE.

    HH 1NL YNWA 😀

    ps TAL ya b@ss!!!!

    • lordofthewing says:

Can we forget that we are being shafted here? Though, some add on’s and provo stuff has to stop we have been targeted and blantantly so.

  • sixtaeseven says:

I think a lot of posters are missing the point: the Celtic support have been targeted by the police and the “powers that be” in Scotland.

A police commander with extra sensitive ears goes to UEFA instead of doing his job on the night – premeditated or what?
They have been itching to do something like this for years, and eventually found the “illicit chants” loophole to nail us.

We are now officially in the eyes of the footballing world as bad as THEM – the sectarian THEM.

Where was the match commander at Easter Rd on Saturday? When the Huns spout their bile, it’s no’ 200 daft wee baoys out of 40000!

It’s not quite as easy as saying, we’ll accept the fine and move on. We have been set up and shafted here.

Now that that mission’s done, what’s their next trick?

    • lordofthewing says:

      Great post.

It was made known to certain members of the GB at the FAC march that the Polis were coming for them. So what happens the two games after that protest?

But though that is the over-riding issue here we have to agree that the song debate hs to come to a quick conclusion or we will end up as deluded and confused as those over the river who canny remember that they are actually a rowing club.

  • Stevie says:

The celtic board need to let the support know exactly what we’ve been fined for so there’s no misunderstanding.

  • sixtaeseven says:

    Is a poppy a political?

I hope so, cos that will save us the annual fortnight of mind numbing dabate that is actually worse than the songs stuff
    ;o)

  • Gerry says:

We’ve been done up like a kipper here by the Board. According to them, Uefa haven’t provided any specific information on the actual chants that were deemed illicit however they seem perfectly happy to take the €15,00 fine and thereby attempt to rule us by fear as no-one knows what exactly we’ve supposed to have done wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking for an exhaustive list of what can and what can’t be sung but FFS I’d like to know what exactly we’re being fined over £12k for!
Like about 30 thousand others, I was at the Rennes game and to be honest, I never noticed any IRA chanting and to be fair, from where I was in the Lisbon Lion lower, it may as well have been ooh aah Samaras that was being sung – I couldn’t say for definite. Even if it was ooh aah up the ra, where is the evidence to show that this was ‘illicit’ and worthy of a hefty fine? Sure, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but if a wee skinny polisman was so worked up about this, why didn’t he send any of his lackeys into the crowd to make some arrests? It’s not as if the plod have shown any reluctance to wade in to make arrests before!

What did come across loud and clear though was PMFA call & response between the stands. I may be completely wrong here but what if an ambitious wee polis man decided he wanted to ‘test a case’ and perhaps report us for chanting the word ‘Fenian’. After all, is this is not the part of TBB that got the huns fined and their goat-bothering hoards handed an away ban?? This is a term that Uefa are already familiar with but perhaps reduced the charge because we have reclaimed the term? A bit like calling the American hip hoppers NWA racist for their use of the ‘niggaz’ word – maybe we should have been chanting Paddy McCourt’s Feenyin Army instead!
There’s something rotten in the state of Denmark methinks.
To me, it seems the Board are happy to take the fine and then manipulate us using the fear of further damaging our Club to determine what they would like us to sing – a route which may well see a certain Chief Exec a big step closer to his wet dream of a sanitised marketable product.
I’m not a raging Republican by any means (a bit too old for that now) but I’ve been to may fair share of CATB/Shebeen/Eire Og/Wolfe Tones gigs and this is part of my heritage. It is a part of who I am – deal with it.
What we’re seeing here is a masterful attempt by the establishment to paint the ‘two cheeks of the same @rse’ argument and by the amount of division this issue has created within the Celtic family it’s been hugely successful so far.
I am absolutely livid that the Board have chosen not to appeal against the fine as I believe that that they have a responsibility to protect and uphold the good name of Celtic and they have failed miserably here.

    Rant over!!

  • Gerry says:

Just saw the statement on the Club website.

    I’ll get my coat!

  • Piratebhoy says:

“Game of shame” was stitch up no.1 and now this..Though why the club arent seeking clarification is mind-boggling(and leaves board open to conspirancy theorists) Accepting punishment is one thing…once you know exactly what it is your been punished for

  • Gerry D says:

For anyone interested in fairness & impartiality remember that the police in scotland complimented rangers after the worst racist & sectarian singing heard for many a year & the snp followed suit. They have ignored nazi salutes & have presided over a nation where Catholics are subject to a significantly increased risk of attack. Their response to this was to destroy the crime stats or evidence as it is known.

Where their ex sfa press officers breaches confidentiality by leaking information then manfully boasts about ‘smashing’ the GB only to be forced to retreat.

We are told that it’s normal practice to go straight to uefa albeit they’ve never done it before.

And where existing laws are not enforced because it isn’t Celtic supporters who would be arrested.

The add ons have thankfully stopped but don’t be surprised when they find another reason to vilify us.

    Shameful!

  • mark mcghee says:

Why wasn’t Celtics representatives informed about the illicit chants during the game so that the head of security could act on any complaints or concerns, thus mitigating the ill effects that the police were so concerned about? It appears as if EUFA were informed only to bring upon some punishment to the club rather than dealing with issue with the actual offenders which is what their presence at the game is all about.

  • paranoidandroid says:

We have been shafted. However, some of our support were stupid enough to give them the big pole to do it with.

The issue of what we can or cannot sing doesn’t need clarifying either. We need to stop the PIRA chants and add-ons. We all know that these chants are offensive to many people and that the majority of fans dont want them anymore.

We should remember as well that stopping the chants actually helps us more than it helps our enemies for two reasons.

First off, these chants are dividing our support, and, without them, the whole support will be united against any further attacks. We can stand together to protect the rest of our songs.

And secondly, since these chants stopped a few weeks ago, the support for the team has been magnificent. The atmoshere has been brilliant. You can feel that the whole crowd is united- and look at the results on the pitch.

Maybe Strathclydes finest’s plan to shaft us and turn the rest of the support against the GB has backfired. If we stop the chants completely, they may well have done us a big favour: The Celtic support united is a force to be reckoned with.

  • Talksense says:

I also agree that we’ve been shafted, and shafted underhandidly at that. Yeah, the PIRA add on’s etc has to stop, keep that to your bus, if that’s what you’re in to.

I reckon the board aren’t contesting the fine in order to prove a point to the GB. By not contesting, they’re saying that they’re quite willing to grass us up, if you like.

I, like all of you reading this no doubt, have been brought up on all the songs, illicit and otherwise, but realise now we can’t sing them, we can’t let the police/sfa/match delegates win, we can’t let them get one over on us (which they’ve been waiting to do for years) and tarnish our names.

It’s up to us to stop it.

  • sixateseven says:

“these chants stopped a few weeks ago”

    good point!

We aren’t stopping them because some plod with extra sensitive ears reported us to the numpties in Nyon.

However, it just takes one or two boays that have had a few too many (especially at away games) and we’ll get hammered by the press and polis.

The board are now under scrutiny here by a big proportion of the fan base. One more bad decision or perceived bad action on their behalf, and it could be the final straw for many.

If their was even a hint of the board helping the hun to get out of their big mess and keeping them (and the “OF” concept) alive, it would definitely be the end.
