The Demonisation Of Neil Lennon: Part One.

|
Image for The Demonisation Of Neil Lennon: Part One.

The above picture was used numerous times in the mainstream media since the largely forgettable Glesga Derby.

It’s a classic headmaster pupil pose. But..consider this. What would be the reaction be if the roles were reversed? If Lennon was the aggressor towering over Iain Brines?

It’s another day so another SFA charge lands at our managers door. This time for requesting that hopefully he will get a decent refereeing performance in our next game. A charge so ludicrous that even those that make the most of Lennon’s misdemeanors deem it harsh.

Our manager may have done something wrong in the tunnel at Ibrox. But the chronological version of events does point to collusion between the officials with Brines being the main instigator. Remember his involvement in last seasons Shame Game?

The media are cute with Lennon. They use pictures to paint a picture of the man. While Lennon doesn’t help himself at times his character is defined by the pictures the media uses. A snarling Lennon on the front page will see the old wife buying the paper see an angry man who doesn’t seem very nice.

The authorities are cute as well. Why a charge for Lennon and none for Butcher after he accused ref’s of cheating and favoritism numerous times this season?

This is the start of a series. Anytime we see hypocrisy in print or on-line we will highlight it. Anytime we see a picture of a snarling Lennon we will use it. The SFA and the SPL? Aye, we will take on you as well.

We need your help.

Send in any pictures of managers you see snarling. Send in any incidents of hypocrisy.

Send them to thecelticblog@snack-media.com or put them in the comments if you have historical incidents that have been forgotten.

dont follow like sheep bro celts, lenny isnt an angel, never said a thing about refs on our great run of 26 games, we never beat killie or the huns cos he picked wrong teams and tactics, we didnt hear sally mccoist moaning like this when they scored in december against us and never got it, or at swinecastle when they scored and never got it, jock and tommy would turn in their graves if they knew how much lenny was bringing down our club, and we will see if you print this

You lose any sort of credibility as soon as you say: “I’m a better fan than you”

    • lordofthewing says:

You’ve missed the point. I do say that Lennon doesn’t help himself this is all about perception of Lennon when others are just as bad.

Tim did you watch the manager interviews during the winning run he always spoke about poor.decisions. This is the problem the media only highlight these comments when Celtic lose giving the impression he is a sore loser. Why did far sally not get called up when he said lumney didn’t know what he was doing? I think we all know the reason

It’s obvious the media have an agenda, It’s getting close to the season end and Lennon lifting the title (deservedly so) , and they cant stand it. In a way the more snarling pics I see and the more the referees single him out, the more we can all know he is doing a fine Job and feel that wave of satisfaction that they are hurting badly and we are champions. When Craig Levein had his famous rant about referees favouring rangers, the papers didn’t demonise him in the same way.. they didn’t acuse him of bringing the game into disrepute.. instead they made him the national coach, if it had been Lennon making those accurate comments we could be forgiven for thinking that Satan himself had shown up in all his ginger ranting glory given the sheer outcry of hatred from the rags. This is why I quite like seeing them squirm and try there best to ‘Taint’ our glorious league triumph.. its a huge admission of defeat for them

I really hope that Celtic have employed another able QC to highlight the hypocrisy of the charges made against Lennon. Our friends in the press and in Scottish football generally regularly engage in ‘whataboutery’ but Celtic should start doing this immediately too.

What about Butcher’s consistent criticism of the referees and the SFA? What about Fat Sally’s comments and the warnings rather than fines given to other managers? Equal treatment please. If they are not going to employ a level playing field then Celtic must fight.

All power to Neil Lennon. Their entire system is unravelling. They don’t know what to do? The establishment club and the SFA have been lying and cheating Scottish football for years. The press has helped them. Fight them tooth and nail, not to do so will ensure another hundred and forty years of criminality. It is the duty of everyone connected to Celtic to question every dodgy decision and corrupt official.

  • ianin440 says:

The SFA and their agents are telling us, `you`ll never be the establishment club in this country`. Meanwhile Neil Lennon is keeping them on their toes and he remembers how Tony Mowbray`s team were treated. If Neil is passive that is what will happen! KTF

  • bhoylondon67 says:

Walter Smith had a genius way of duping the SFA and media in these matters.
He would start his verbal attacks on referees by saying things along the lines of “I don’t question referee decisions and I won’t be talking about their performance” before going on a 5 minute rant and questioning the officials ability and impartiality.
Luckily for him nobody outside of the Celtic support noticed this cunning way of questioning the integrity of officials or he could have spent his whole Rangers career banned from the dugout.
