A Great 3 mins 32 seconds from a program called: “100 Great Sporting Moments”, which looks back on the unrivaled success of a 11 men from Glasgow, with interviews and footage (Spoiler ALERT! It contains Pat Nevin).

In a week when the great trophy has been sullied by a new addition to the winners list I leave with a great quote from the book Inverting The Pyramid- a History Of Football Tactics from Inter Milan defender Tarcisio Burgnich:

“I remember at one point Picchi turned to the goalkeeper and said ‘ Giuliano, let it go, just let it go. Sooner or later they’ll get the winner. I never imagined my captain would tell our keeper to throw in the towel. But that shows you how destroyed we were at that point.”

Happy Lisbon Day.

    Never seen that quote before.
Just goes to show how demoralised they were.
One of the great commentry quotes of all time from Kenneth Wolstenholm as well; ‘and glory hovering over Parkhead’.
Little did the man know that glory is never far away from Parkhead/Celtic Park.

      It’s a fantastic quote.

Heh, though maybe the first sign of Calcio and match fixing…. 🙂

It might have been the first but I think our cousins from across the city have just set a new world record that I don’t think will ever be beat.

  • Enjoyed most of it. But how did that wee embarrassment, Nevin, get into our glorious history? Pity he didn’t get the sleezy breath crushed out of him then and we would have been spared the drivel that comes out now.
