The first game we have played in the Champions League in 3 seasons was a cagey affair. The term canceling each other out was made for this match. There was somethings of interest though…

So who was the best midfielder, top of the possession stats, have we seen the birth of a true centre back and is Miku really all bad?

Lets begin

It Was A Kicking Match

Benfica committed on average 14.5 per game fouls last season in the Champions League. They surpassed that total and only Man United committed more fouls this week (21).

The 15 fouls they suffered is also above the average of 13 per game of last season.

Barca only committed 4 fouls against Spartak.

Possession, Possession, Possession.

The elephant in the room or the group is Barca. 86% pass accuracy is a freak of nature.

Benfica and Celtic had the lowest pass accuracy in Matchday 1.

How Much For Wanyama & Brown?

Off the screening midfielders on show it’s easy to who was the most involved.

Though Scott Brown’s pass accuracy might surprise a few.

What’s The Fuss About Miku?

Most of the audible moans were regarding the selection of Miku. While the stats don’t make great reading the fact that we used him as a target man didn’t help.

The Kelvinator

He loses a goal every 54 mins domestically but in 204 mins of Champions League football no one has breached The Kelvinator.

His performances has improved and surely the clean sheets will come in the league?

I thought Statto was recovering from a heart attack? Watching Scott Brown could have ended his rehab.

lets hope The Kelvinator doesnt get sent back in time to destroy all the decent CL games hes had to date… im enjoying his improved performances but as one steps up another seems to be wobbling…. whats up with izzy?
