Last week I wrote an opinion piece criticizing something Ronny Deila said, but I made it clear that I was still in the ‘back Ronny camp’ as one of the commenters put it.

I used a word to describe the group of people still behind Ronny Deila and I quickly realised that the use of that word was misplaced. The word I used was ‘minority’ as that’s what I believed it was, I based this belief on what I had heard from many outspoken and vocal Celtic fans on social media, radio phone in’s and other forms of the media, but the responses I got from all of you blow my belief out of the water and brought a smile to my face. I realised that there are still many Celtic fans wanting Deila to succeed and supporting him.

This piece isn’t taking a dig or saying that the people that aren’t in the ‘back Ronny camp’ are wrong as I do understand why many fans aren’t in favour of him. There are many reasons not to be a fan of Deila like the poor performances, the unbelievable at times tactical decisions or the lack of use of our key man Kris Commons but there are as many reasons to support our manager as there are not too such as the fact that the players are looking much fitter than they have been, we are getting big results as well as having the ability to win ugly and we are putting points on the SPFL and Europa League tables.

Although I understand people not being in his favour I don’t believe call to have him sack as manager are right. Yes, we haven’t been playing great and we aren’t running away with the league like we should be but we weren’t doing that at first when Neil Lennon took over as well but his run as Celtic boss didn’t go too bad now did it?

Yes, you can say that there was criticism aimed at Neil Lennon too, but not as much as Ronny Deila is getting I can assure you that, and in my opinion that’s not fair. We allowed Lennon time and he came good so Deila deserves the same.

To argue that just because Lennon played for us and love the club that he deserved special treatment is just wrong, just like it’s not right to prefer someone over their skin colour, race or religion, it shouldn’t be right to prefer someone on their past relationship with a club in the footballing world. As long as Deila has the best interests of Celtic and us fans at heart, then he deserves our support this season.

Ronny Deila has made a few mistakes and errors but it’s still early day, he deserves time to settle, he deserves time to get the team playing his way, he deserves time to get his own players in, he deserves money to spend and most importantly he deserves our support!

This is my opinion on Ronny Deila but what is yours? Do you agree with what I said or not? Either way, let us know in the comments. HH

All new managers need time to work their own style into the team,I hope this is a taste of things to come, come on CELTIC and good luck Ronnie

  • paul mcCann says:

it has taken ronny time to get to know the players that will play and also as broonie said the ones who wll hide when the going gets tough

Aye we have really missed “key man” in last 4 games eh??

Time to move on, let the nostalgia go. We are a better team without him in it

We may not have missed him so much recently but I wouldn’t go as far too say we are a better team without him. He is still a player with the ability to score and create goals and any team will benefit from having a player like that especially us.

    Better him than Paul Lambert
