Today the SFA announced that the East Kilbride v Celtic match would take place at the Excelsior Stadium, the home of Airdrie, on 7 February and an opportunity to take advantage of the Ladbrokes promotion.

The problem is, according to the former footballer and now broadcaster Gordon Dalzeil, there was already a game taking place there that day.

A charity match.

The match, between a Sevco – Celtic select, has now been cancelled.

The SFA have quite literally done a charity out of money.

A new venue will have to be found for the game, with very little notice, and the scheduling clash will shave numbers off the expected attendance, in a double whammy that could cost thousands.

The game was arranged a while ago and Dalziel and others have been promoting it ever since.

He would have been running the Sevco team for the game.

Tonight, on Radio Clyde, he said he was “surprised” to hear the SFA announcement, and he confirmed that the charity match had been still been scheduled to go ahead when the announcement was made. That game is now confirmed to be off.

It absolutely defies belief that the SFA were willing to move that game, with very little notice, to accommodate this one, when the ground had already been booked for it and other grounds were available.

In scrambling to cover themselves for their own disastrous mistake as regards to Hamilton’s ground, they have now disenfranchised a charity.

I said in my earlier post that the SFA’s uselessness has been made obvious in the last week with the shambles over the first venue for this game, but this is disgusting and heartless and reveals the total lack of compassion or caring at Hampden.

How does the SFA do this?

How do they consistently find ways to screw up?

The charity in question – SIMBA – raises money to honour the memories of babies who were stillborn or miscarried.

It is supported by a number of celebrities and high profile individuals like Michelle McManus and Lisa Hague.

This is a PR catastrophe for the Association, one for which heads would have rolled in any other corporate culture.

What “leaders” we have in our national sport.

What forward thinkers.

They are a national joke, and their conduct is a national scandal.

I have a feeling the backlash over this will be ferocious, and it ought to be.

What a disgraceful bunch these people are.
