Ronny Deila today reacted with anger as the hacks attempted to turn his press conference ahead of the weekend’s game into a discussion about potential candidates for his job.

This is unbelievable stuff, an appalling show of disrespect to a guy who’s trying to get on with his job.

Most times the media is free to write what it wants – we keep a close eye on them, but they essentially get on with it – but to turn a manager’s weekly discussion of his team and the coming game into a round robin on who might replace him?

Despicable.

No other boss in the country would have to put up with it.

Yesterday, McCoist jumped into this debate and offered some ersatz sympathy for the Celtic boss; I covered that in a piece earlier today (read it by clicking here), and in that article I looked at the media’s relationship with both managers and went over the way in which the press here in Scotland eschewed such discussions about the Sevco boss, and accused those who did of a lack of respect.

They have no such qualms when it comes to Ronny.

This really is ridiculous.

It’s a blatant attempt to put him on the defensive.

It lacks class, it lacks scruples and it only makes a mockery of those asking the questions.

It reveals them at their most nakedly anti-Celtic.

Leigh Griffiths spoke on behalf of the players when he said that such talk was “disrespectful” and asked that if anyone wants to apportion blame for the poor performances this season that it really lay with the playing squad.

Many of us would disagree with that, but only to an extent. There’s been a collective failing at times this season, and only a collective effort will secure the double the fans, players and the management team so badly wants. The media, in their own way, are helping knit this club back together, and that can only be for the best.

As much as today’s behaviour infuriates us, it inspires us too.
