Sevco poster girl and bitter bigot Lynsey Sharp, who’s deplorable social media comments on Jock Stein resulted in a massive outcry and forced her to a grovelling apology so she could save her sponsorship deals, is back in the news again with more bigoted comments, this time on “intersex” runner Caster Semenya, in which she bemoaned the fairness of having to race against the South African at the Olympics.

What makes Sharp’s comments more than just typically deplorable was the simple fact that even if Semenya had not been running – and she deserved to, and no amount of bleating or whining will change that simple fact – the notorious Sevco fan would have finished fifth in her much heralded race instead of sixth.

Quite why she chose to highlight Semenya and not the other four runners who finished ahead of her is something only she can explain, but her remarks have been interpreted as insensitive at best and thoroughly bigoted at the extreme.

Following this race, she gave her notorious tearful interview to the media in which all the sense of entitlement was on full display.

Weeping openly, she blamed “the system” and the people at the top for the “difficulty” in racing against Semenya.

I’m not sure what difficulty, other than being uselessly slow, she blamed for finishing behind the others.

Twitter’s reaction was typically brutal, which is ironic as that’s the forum on which she chose to make her scandalous comments on Scotland’s greatest manager last year. The backlash that followed makes even the one she’s experiencing now look tame.

Suffice to say there’s limited sympathy here at home for her. She made sure of that.

Caster Semenya has been the subject of a lot of negative attention over the last couple of years, but Sharp has been a particularly vocal critic, leading some to actually accuse her of “obsessing” over her rival. (Haha!) Sharp has been equally vocal over the treatment of her beloved football team, denying all wrong-doing at Ibrox even when we know the facts are beyond dispute.

She seems to be suggesting that Semenya has a testosterone advantage because of her unusual medical condition; effectively doping without the need for dope. This is especially delicious when one considers Rangers’ penchant for the financial version.

Semenya is cursed with an affliction. She’s not a cheat, consciously or otherwise. Sharp’s former club can’t say the same.

They did cheat. She excused or ignored their cheating. For someone like that to hide behind sporting integrity in or order to launch a bitchy, personal attack on another competitor, especially one in which the strains of bigotry can be loudly heard, is shameful.

We Scots have traditionally been very, very proud of our sporting heroes.

Indeed, the whole of the country is united in its delight over the exploits of Andy Murray and others. Sharp is another category entirely, one many of us would disown if we could, and that has nothing do with her abject performances and everything to do with her abject personality.
