Know What I Mean Arry…

|

And so our time together is coming to an end, for now. I was warned that you were a rebellious bunch that would never accept me, but we’ve laughed and we’ve cried, had our ups and our downs, tantrums and tears but at the end of it all we’ve fell in love with each other. Or maybe that was all just me??? No matter I’m here and your here so its all good. Just leave your ice skates at the door, I’ve ditched that idea for an afternoon watching the Louth v Meath GAA Leinster football final instead.

Before we settle down to watch the Wee County hammer the Royals let’s see what nonsense is in the news today and see how I can try make it look a bit better and less anti-Celtic as is normally their intention. The big story that we find then is in the News of the Screws and it is that Aston Villa want our wing wizard and eternal deceiver Aiden McGeady for the reported sum of £10 million plus Emile Heskey ‘England flop’ the headline cries, while then telling us how few goals he’s scored recently and basically telling all us Celtic fans we’re being ripped off. Oh how the darkside must be laughing at our misfortune. It’s true that many Celtic fans will see this as being a bit like swapping Barry McGuigan for Frank Bruno, but Aiden, like Barry, is and was far better in our own minds than in reality. I think most Celtic fans would be happy to collect £8 million quid for the young Irishman so to get £10m plus Heskey seems like a pretty good deal to me? No? Sure I can see the big mans failings but so disillusioned have I become with the SPL that I now believe any half decent player will get the player of the year gong up here now. Are we really saying that a striker that was taken to the World Cup finals by Fabio Capello’s England won’t be good enough for Celtic and the Scottish League. On the contrary I think the boy would fit in perfectly. I realise he was deemed a flop in South Africa as the NOTW reminds us but what englander wasn’t? Rooney didn’t exactly up the vuvuzela tempo either did he. My only concern would be is if we got Heskey would Lennon see this as the main striker we need to replace Keane or would he still go out and utilise the funds to get a top striker, at the top of his game that the support are desperate for. I’d be happy to see Heskey line up with one other but not with what we currently have. We still definitely need another ‘Robbie Keane’ though, in fact would £10 million not buy Keano? At the end of the day my last word on Heskey is that I think he would score many goals in Scotland but he shouldn’t be considered to be our main striker if we get him. Also if he’s good enough for the Blessed Saint Martin well then he’s good enough for me. I know most people will disagree with that but hey what do they know.

In the ongoing drama of the mighty Joe Ledley, who’s reputation as a player grows by each day and story, we are now being informed that he has been named in the squad to travel to the USA this coming week. Surely this is the last piece of evidence we need that the bhoyo is now a bhoy. It has also been rumoured on another supporters website that Ledley has been given squad number 11 for the new campaign ahead. Interestingly there is no Bullard named in the traveling party which might just mean that he doesn’t have a passport, mibbe, probably not. Or maybe he isn’t allowed into America because he was refused a visa due to past misdemeanors. Need to have a wee think about that one and come up with a suitable dark tale from Jimmy’s past…(there is nothing in that by the way, I’m not hinting at anything at all before you send the lawyers after me)

Talking about the American tour, Seattle Sounders have sold 44,000 tickets in advance of next Sundays clash. In reality this is 12,000 as 32,000 account for season books. Still, they expect to take the figure to 50,000 which is quite remarkable considering the game will also be shown live on ESPN in the States. Should make for a decent atmosphere and I hope Celtic maximise these opportunities in America…..I can hear your laughter from here.

Thats about all from me then this weekend and as I prepare to hand over the blog torch to your next guest tomorrow, I’d just like to say thanks for hanging around folks. OK so I might not be on your Christmas card list yet but I’ll be seeing you all soon, real soon…

I’d bit MON’s hand off for that deal. Heskey would be a dream up here.
