McGeady, Bellamy, McFadden….Let’s Play Our Cards Right

|

The Diary is the leader of the pack, which makes me such a lucky Jack, but here they are, they’re so appealing, come on dollies, do your dealing.

It’s not easy being green. In future years the ‘Ballad of Aiden McGeady‘ will be captured by a respected songsmith – I’m thinking Cheryl Cole – and if the last verse doesn’t bring a tear to a glass eye then your the type that skins puppies.

The facts of the matter were this. Aiden wanted to go. Celtic wanted Aiden to go. The fake injuries and protestations to the contrary are just the way of the Celtic world. When will they learn that we are not dumb?

Aiden, like most footballers, The Diary reads as a simple sort and would bet it’s lunch money that going to Moscow was never discussed in the McGeady household when he was a nipper.

Last week, Aiden was courted to Russia. A heatwave and smog greeted him as Spartak Fans set fire to forests in protest to his arrival. They never but I feel the need to sensationalize the loss of the best player that has come via our youth system since Paul McStay and not just give a non-plussed shrug that seems to have zombieliked the Celtic support.

The Spartak fans have christened him ‘McGreedski‘ not because they have seen him play, or read Celtic websites, but due to his ‘reported’ demands.

McGeady was to be supported by an interpreter, a driver and 2 chefs. One from KFC and the other from Burger King. “Many things were written in the newspapers which, to put it mildly, do not meet reality.” said Valery Karpin the Spartak coach, though they do seemed to have agreed to the Irn Bru tap in McGeady’s Moscow penthouse.

The Diary flippancy is because it reckons this move is deemed for failure. It will be a matter of weeks before we get the reports that Big Eck will save him from his ‘Moscow Hell‘.

The player will be cursing that Man City wouldn’t send Aston Villa a blank check for a crisp poke. He will also be cursing that Birmingham coffers are not as full as promised and that Celtic wanted a fee that is higher than the book price.

The feeling is that McGeady put himself in this corner but Celtic have put the gun to his mouth will see him leave for his Russian adventure a rich man but with the bitter taste of metal in the back of his throat.

Celtic are celebrating like a wife that has bumped off her husband for the insurance money. “I’ll get all the money.” Lennon beamed and has been beaming for a few days.

It’s not England, but you can’t always get what you want in football‘ somewhat mockingly Lennon added.

On Wednesday night the manager was commenting on, or not, about the possibility of Craig Bellamy arriving at CP. “I wouldn’t like to say anything on that at the moment.” was his take. The cynic in us see a perfect New Labour strategy.

Fulham and Spurs are also reportedly interested. Spurs fans are confident that a deal for Bellamy has been done for months and it’s being dragged out so Arry could get them used to the controversial star arriving at the Lane.

We are also reportedly ‘tracking‘ James McFadden. The Dairy once spent time ‘tracking‘ Michelle McManus but the lawyers put a stop to that. They can do the same with McFadden. Liam Lawrence is still hanging around like the last maggot in the bait box.

Still, no goalkeeper, left back or centre back being linked or mentioned. Time to play our cards right and sort the failure of the summer so far.

    If McFadden wants to come I’ll personally give him a piggy-back all the way from Birmingham to Glasgow if it gets the deal done. Wouldbe a sensation in the hoops imo.

    @Harper

    It would a massive u-turn from me to welcome and praise McFadden the amount of abuse I have gave haggis munchers about his abilities over the years.

    I’m already practising the reverse shuffle.

  • Wildrover says:

    No kiddin, I totally agree, we should have bought McFadden years ago. Bellamy’s too injury prone and will want daft money. I wish the whole McGeady thing would go away to be honest. I’m absolutely dreading going into the season with the defence we’ve got, it certainly seems to me to have impacted on Zaluska’s confidence..or maybe he’s just not very good..

  • lordofthewing says:

    @wildrover

    I’m not just dreading going in with our defence, the loss of Keane, McGeady and THG added to the uncertainty of the newbies means I sniff that we are weaker….

  • Wildrover says:

    Yeah, I know what you mean, a couple of the incomings look promising, others I’ve got no clue. It’s going to take Lennon time to find his best 11 too..I’m not sure that’s truely possible while he insists on shoehorning Brown into midfield.

  • CheifInKorea says:

    Lawrence seems convicned he’s on his way. I’d certainly give McFadden a chance.

    Does anyone have any idea what the score is with Ramis and St. Ledger? They continue to be linked and both Mallorca (hope that’s the right club) and Preston are skint. Were Mallorca not kicked out of Europe over it?

    I don’t honestly know how good they are but giving them the benefit of the doubt (and thinking about those already at the club), is this a case of Lenny not wanting to go after old Mowbray targets? Or is it just the papers/rumour mills clutching at straws?

    • lordofthewing says:

      @cheifinkorea

      I don’t think they are Mowbray or Lennon targets. I think they are club targets highlighted by the scouting system and available at ASDA price. Trusted sources, ok the Stv website have us interested in Kelvin Wilson from Notts Forest. The 2 mention may well be behind him.

  • Jim. says:

    Agree totally with Harmer.
    McFadden would be a great signing, big Celtic fan to, get him bought. thereafter top class goalie and centre half finishing with a quality left back,

  • gerard says:

    Feck McFadden Bellamy Lawrence etc etc.
    Get two fekn defenders and a fekn goalkeeper in before the fekn weekend. Maybe then we can look at those fekn positions for fecks sake.

    Fekn cheers.

  • Jim. says:

    Lordofthewing.

    Writing As a proud Haggis muncher and big fan of McFadden, be assured he would get right under the skin of the govan crew, when was the last time we had a player that could do that.

  • lordofthewing says:

    @ jim

    I’m beginning to wonder if the signing of any sort of quality 4 is a notion brought on by sniffing glue.

    Two decent, two gambles maybe?

    I don’t care if a player gets under peoples skins. I just want him to have ability and be a winner.
