Coffee & Tv: Celtic Win (Goals Included), Despite Dougie McDonald’s Episode Of Self Doubt

The word ‘monumental’ is over used and it will be over used after today and in the coming week. Leagues are not won in October but winds of change are felt as the leaves change colour. The celebrations at the end spoke volumes regarding the progress our club has made in the last 6 months and also the state the club was in before hand.

So to that ‘incident’. First look it was a penalty, second look it was maybe a bit harsh as the keeper looked like – if the light was a certain way and the moons aligned – he got a touch before Hooper and by the third look I was sure a saw Elvis working as a steward in the background.

It was a tight call. The controversy is the way Dougie McDonald changed his mind. It was as if he had suddenly been cast into a world of self doubt and loathing. He like most men feel that they have done wrong looked for someone to blame. His linesman- though had moved into position for the penalty – proved fair game.

McDonald decided that a drop ball was called for and not a spot kick. He mouthed ‘I made a mistake’ with the air of a man who had bought dark chocolate digestives instead of milk chocolate during his weekly big shop. The fact he was looking like an idiot was lost on him as he probably  justified his decision by playing paper, scissors, stone in his mind.

I won’t feel any sympathy for the man. He won’t be alone with vodka, razor blades and Coldplay thinking about that time he nearly gave Celtic a penalty in a game that REALLY mattered as I’m sure that plenty of his colleges will come out and commend his bravery and back the decision. They won’t mention the countless others he got wrong.

Still, enough. Let’s sit back and enjoy the goals. Toast the Sunday Roast it’s Gary Hooper.
