The title of this blog are not the words of a wise old sage but words of a fan who wears his client reference like a prisoner number and has the perplexed look of a ducks ar$e after we draw 1-1 with Dundee United.
Drawing with a team whose manager is just a walking German helmet and whose best player reminds you of that famous advert when the star is asked if you get potato and leek soup from a chicken is now deemed a sackable offence. The glue must be good in that world.
Us failing to hang to a 1 goal lead changes the perceptions of the reality. The ‘we would have lost that last season’ take on the game suddenly become ‘that’s pi$h we shouldn’t be dropping points at home to mobs like that‘. What? Mobs that have got a decent handle on us in recent seasons grabbing more than their fair share of points against us?
Hard fought last minute wins – the kind that win championships – now become lucky. The defence of Rogne and Danny becomes dodgy and Ki and Ledley become bad players. More flip flopping than your average Mediterranean beach.
Goodwillie trouble us on Saturday make no doubt about that. Though created from leftover grease from a Subway deal of the day and some ready salted crisps he will trouble most defences especially ones as suspect as ours. For once the stats lie. No matter the lack of goals that are scored against us we are dodgy.
Big Danny realises this. He is of limited ability himself but has an acute sense of danger. This see’s him charging around trying to do the work of 4 men. See the cup game against St Johnstone for the perfect example. Saturday was the same.
Twice he stopped danger out on the touchline after leaving his post unmanned. It’s not his technical ability that has got him all those caps. It’s his reading of the game. That proclamation is undone when you consider the equaliser but it’s then whole package not just a loose bit of wrapping paper you have to consider.
Rogne is learning. Looking like a startled Zac Efron when faced with a decent acting role is not a reason to claim the insurance on him yet.
The midfield can get over-run. This leads to this panic in the back-line. Our manager seems to take the ‘think of the simple sub and do the complete opposite’ approach to changing his team during game play. He has grasped how to change the game when we are on top but when things are looking pear shaped he still seems lost.
Still, not a case for revisionism concerning the progress we are making or the ability level in the team.
