Transfers? The cavalry are imminent

|

Swedish CavalryThey saved us all  the embarrassment in the world and from another possible disturbingly terrible result against St Johnstone. They arguably have been two of our better performers in recent matches and now they are away to Asia for international duties.

Super Ki and Cha Du Ri (…and for those with dyslexia, no hes nothing to do with that ex-rangers child juggler Gordon, even though the latter parts of his name suggest they could be. They do look  similar though 😀 ) saved us from another dire afternoon with a late late show Gay Burne would have been proud of. They do not take all the spoils though as Mr McCourt looked like a man possessed all afternoon, too bad he was the only man possessed as the others played like they had the life sucked out of them, maybe Jodie Marsh has been hanging around Lennoxtown? Who knows?

In essence of the discussed duo and their imminent departure for Asian pastures new for a wee while, the Celtic ‘cog’ still turns powerfully and stronger than ever, especially when new players are concerned.

The paper of all that is honestly the total and utter truth, The Times, has stated the following: –

“Celtic want to take Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Niko Kranjcar on loan after the 26-year-old Croatian fell out of favour with manager Harry Redknapp.”

My view is he would not be a bad player to have. He was a pure diamond of a player at Fratton Park with sailors favourite, Pompey and  as the ‘wheeler dealer’ Harry Redknapp typically does he raises your confidence by praising the ‘bejaysus’ out of you, making you out to be Leo Messi then he sits you on the bench (See Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch, Pletikosa etc).

He (Redknapp) has done this with Mr Kranjcar, no wonder he wants to move. He would be a sure starter for us with his quality every match, but chances our he is way down Lennys list on the possible transfer pecking order for us as we seem to be looking at the ‘cheaper option’ of transfers.

With cheaper options in mind we have also been looking at the lower leagues in england, particularly Swindon Town according to the bastions of breasts, The Sun: –

“Swindon striker Charlie Austin says he could leave the club next week, with Celtic, Hull, QPR and Reading all interested in signing the 21-year-old.”

As speculation goes this again seems like a hail mary of a transfer, though we could be definitely in the running for this quality youngster as we seem a little thin on prolific strikers.

I think Swindon may push for the highest bidder and if QPR, top of the championship, and Hull, who are spending and building to try to get to the EPL promotion spots, are bidding, I think a move to a potential English premiership club will suit him more. Sad to say it will go down to cash again and his pay packet, unless he is another Joe Ledley who actually comes to have a look, does his research and witnesses what we are all about, I think our chances of Austin coming are very supermodel thin.

Now to the highly likely transfers we will get. Unless you have been locked up in an Austrian cellar or been living it large in the Antarctic, you have possibly heard of Canadian internationalist and now Bhoys ‘trialist?’ Dwayne De Rosario.

The thing is this is a trial his club, Toronto FC, have no recollection of agreeing to ‘as of yet’. According to Satan Mad Dog Murdochs sports channel news: –

“We were unaware of Dwayne’s plan to train with Celtic and we will contact them to understand the situation,” read a club statement.

“Obviously, if there is interest in a short-term loan arrangement by either him or Celtic, they will need to approach us and the League formally and we will consider based on what is in TFC’s best interest.”

So limbo is normally the word used here but is he on trial or not? Will we need a jury to sort this trial out? According to Celtic news sources De Rosario will be trialing with us but Celticfc.net is yet to confirm the trial. As for Toronto the case is still open, for now.

One guy who can be confirmed as an ‘all guns ablazing’ definite trialist is Mr Ljunchbox himself Freddie Ljungberg. The ex-Sweden international captain known for modelling, branding, advertising, selling cologne, releasing his own fashion range and posing in his ‘kecks’ is also a well established stalwart of a midfield maestro.

The bonus for us Celtic fans is that he has kept himself in very, very good ‘knick’. This is due to mainly his own personal standards, the very athletic persistance of the MLS and the warm climate that has kept the high plateau of his  physical nature at a constant level. Lucky for us he has been touting his services. Mr LOTW sensationally found the evidence below (I would like to add this is not from his personal collection at all :D): –

Freddie, seen above, would bring a bit of extra entertainment for the Ghirls but he would bring proven experience what we need. He is an established winner as his illustrious career shows and we would welcome him with open arms. Did Lenny see the above advert and immediately accept his services? I don’t think so but one thing I do know is that with Freddie in the centre of the park our midfield could be Bjorn again winners and solid to boot.

Henrik has allegedly got in on the act also to convince Celtic to obtain Freddies services: –

“Former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson says the club cannot afford to miss out on the chance to sign his fellow Swede, Freddie Ljungberg, who is on trial in Glasgow. (Various)”

Well we better listen to the king of kings is what I say, plus Freddie has been eyeing the Old Firm derby allready. Hes eager Lenny, get him signed.

I now throw the catwalk open to you Celtic-ites. Strike your best keyboard and swivel chair pose and get in on the act below.

  • Do we need Freddie?
  • Is De Rosario an ideal step in for Maloney even though we have Kapo who can play a similar role?
  • What else do we need to plug the gaps?
  • Johnathan Woodgate on loan has been mentioned?
  • Is Wilson the ideal step in for Cha?
  • Any other speculation doing the rounds feel free to comment?
  • Will Paddy McCourt step up and become a dominant force now he seems to be slowly grabbing games by the scruff of the neck?

DeRo seems a bit of a hassle and could just be working his ticket with Toronto according to those in the know.

    Greedy?

Fred well, is he 33 or 35 and wll it make any difference? I’m really not getting any peckers up at all. But putting that picture in toilet cubicles down the gallowgate was a nice touch.

Wilson or Efrain will be fine at RB.

If the club are going to bring in players then so be it but it would be plain daft to do the same as last season. Even now the team can look and play like a crowd of strangers.
Things do not always work out at a even pace. Ledley is going backwards and Rogne is improving. The stress of playing in front of a critical home crowd may mean that the team will be more relaxed when playing away.
One or two players who would improve the team and help to hold it together when things aren`t going well will suit me. 🙂
    Come on the Bhoys!

My other team on OLeOle (remember that?)was the Seattle Sounders and Freddie was their top player in 2009. He was capable of putting his foot in and wasn`t intimidated in a league that is certainly robust.

    @ianin440

At seattle, was freddie on same form as he was at Arsenal?

Was he bossing matches in the MLS? Was his quality plain to see?

    @LOTW

As for De Rosario, could he be lookin for a retirement meal ticket? Possibly.

But would we care if he turns out to be a gem? Would you care?
