Women And Football? Expert Analysis

|

This week, I’ve investigated the old myth flying around the world that there is no place for women in football, I’ve been through twitter facebook and fourms etc, and then I stopped, and thought, Who better to ask than twitter’s very own  @teri_celticX who was very kind in accepting my offer to come onto the blog this week, It was very much an honour interviewing her on her thoughts. Any of you twitterers and twitterettes out there, if you’re not following young Teri then sort it out! If I can’t convince ye, she will when you read on! Can i just thank Teri for taking the time out of her very busy schedule and taking part. So, without further pearls of wisdom from myself, heres the interview…

Q: First of all, thank you very much for participating this week, you must be thrilled?

A: Yes Dannybhoy its an honour, as you know I’ve waited a long time for this and I am absolutely over to moon to be taking part and I’m hoping we can make it a regular thing!

Q: Now, the real reason we’ve got you on here is to discuss girls in football, so for the record, can you tell me what the offside rule is?

A:  If a players closer to the other teams goal line than the ball and the last opponent then its offside.. yeah?

Q: Joking aside, it is evident that there are more girls going to the football now, why do you think that is?

A: The talent my love, theres nothing else like it. The bhoys on the pitch.. 45 minutes gone..oh wait its half time, see the odd hottie wandering by, then another 45 minutes of hot footballer action, the big men that want to kiss and cuddle a wee girl like me when the ball goes in the net. Its absolute heaven I’ll tell you that for Nothing!!! Haha just kidding, Im not actually 100% sure why that is, girls have possibly gotten sick of their dads, brothers, boyfriends obsessing over football and thought well.. if you cant beat them, join them! Although whats not to love? Pre-Old Firm nerves, travelling up and down Scotland, Waking up with a hangover after an away game, Parkhead on a European night, watching whoever the captain is step up to which ever cup we have won and the roar as its lifted into the air, 60-odd thousand fans in a full stadium.. green and white scarves high belting out You’ll Never Walk Along, hearts racing, tears in everyones eyes there is nothing else quite like it!

Q: Now, I understand you’ve got one of the best jobs in the world, can you tell us more?

A: No I dont really think I do Danny, its money to fund my celtic obsession to be very honest. Although I am very lucky to have met such great friends through my years at Celtic, such as yourself.

Q: It must be great bringing joy to the Celtic fans’ faces, like mine when you gave me my golden ticket to Ibrox?

A: Yeah sometimes, sometimes you get really nice people that you would do anything for.. such as yourself young Daniel, the day I stood there as you were handed that ticket my wee heart just burst with happiness for you, you deserved it my son!

Q: You’re a much valued member of the twitter brigade, do you enjoy the friendly banter on there?

A: I just LOVE the twitter brigade, the banters amazing, and being probably one of the only girl members does include a lot of harsh slagging. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love it. Can I do some shout outs? Cheers! Special shout outs to the main bhoys  you, ofcourse Danny, @liamt67, @kieran_67, @bhoy92 @kieran_Celtic @davieadam @dalebhoy @Parkhead_Bhoy @Barrybhoy @diwalshio @DannyBhoy62 @callumbhoy @oaocelticnews @1974Hamilton @conallmckee1 MY BACK UP CREW, totally got my back all the time, like that one time some guy called me a “THENIAN” we showed him!!! (sorry to anyone I missed)

Q: What was your first Celtic game you were at?

A: I honestly cant remember lol, I was very young though I do know that. One of my earliest memories of Celtic Park is when we lifted the league cup, I think it was the league anyway..? all I remember is seeing the bhoys lifting the cup and being very excited.. and small..

Q: Can you play a bit of football yourself?

A:  yes I can! im best when im playing anywhere on the right, to be very honest. Im really small and can make the wee short runs. Theres alot of amazing footballers who have played on the right, Jinky, George Best and no doubt hundreds of others!

Q: Do you plans to start your own blog to carry the Girls point of view to the public?

A: Only if I have the opportunity to work as part of a team with yourself, Im nothing in this blogging world without you Daniel, I walk in your shadow son!
Q: If you were the manager of Celtic, who would you be looking to sign?

A: Well right now I’d have Robbie Keane in the team but if I was the gaffer and had to pick my fave 11 players and shove them in a Celtic jersey then I’d have Shay Given in goals, back 4 of Pique, Sergio Ramos, Puyol, midfield of Iniesta, Frank Lampard, Damien Duff, Darren Fletcher, and up front I’d have Robbie Keane and Messi? I’d also make it my duty to sign Shane Long and Kevin Kyle.. and BRING BACK DEREK RIORDAN!

Q: And To Finish Off, What do you look for in a player? Ability or looks?

A: Erm.. looks haha! like Daryl Murphy total babe but he just hasnt done the job, and thats upsetting.. Players like Kayal and Hooper who just improve more and more with every minute on the park are automatically good looking bhoys in my opinion! Hail Hail!

So what you think?! Are they in it to learn about tactics or are they in it for the looks?

You Decide!

    What an embarressment this is……

    ……unbelievable….

    …..shocking…..

    …..disgraceful…..

    …..and totally outrageous….

…..that a female knows more about football than you, Brucehillbhoy 😀 😀 😀

It’s always been humorous to see Europe’s attitude towards women and football coming from an American. It’s ironic that in the US “soccer” is seen as a “girly” game compared to American football and other sports and conversely the legions of girls playing soccer every weekend, especially with the success of the United States Women’s National team. I’ve been downright embarrassed to see some of the comments made on some Celtic message boards about females and football, especially since we’re supposed to be the inclusive club of Glasgow. I obviously can’t speak for across the pond, but having befriended some members of the Girls Soccer team when I attended university, they are just as knowledgeable about the rules and tactics of the game, and I say with great confidence that they could run rings around these fat keyboard football experts on various message boards on the pitch.

The Celtic Ghirls team is pretty good as well, from what I read. Wish they’d get more publicity.

Two home games. Hoping for good crowds, good play and good wins. I want evidence to back my feeling that things are starting to go our way.
