Boycott Club Confirmed

|

Cross us at your peril.

Beware if you scowl at us with a squinted, disdained, unpleasant look.

Reverberated ungodly murmurings in our direction may cause us serious concern. We attacked with a hash tag and leave our @ mark wherever we tread.

I have considerably noticed that some people in our supporting contingent seem to have the same record playing consistently at the same pace and now and again they turn the volume up so we can hear it clearly in a few short bursts.

It is like a form of tourettes that reveals itself openly, in some cases in stupidity when its not needed at all.

This form of outburst reveals itself in mainly this likely scenario: –

The match environment.

As we know Neil Lennon was attacked in this environment (for more read https://thecelticblog.com/2011/06/blogs/the-ongoing-disrespect-to-celtic-fc) at Tynecastle and obviously it peeved us off, and rightly so but some Celtic fans, from my viewing, across twitter decided we should boycott our visit to Tynecastle in the upcoming season.

Mr Lennon called  upon us all not to do such a thing, but yet the yarn continued to roll out and the calls to boycott any future visits to Tynecastle continued.

Upon our leader, leading an outcry to not do such a thing, the ‘Boycott’ yapping continued. This word has come to the forefront in recent seasons and now we seem to be using it for everything.

The word boycott should not be in our vocabulary – especially in the wake of a win on our tour in Australia.

Perth Glory  had a go at us, fair enough Mr Kayal came away with a broken nose a very bad looking bloody injury it looked, the replay shows that both men challenged for the ball but the referee should have been wary enough to see that the Perth chap had his elbow up for leverage.

Now I am not getting into a debate about players heading a ball and using arms to gain an advantage what peeved me off was the aftermath on Twitter.

Perth Glory play a very stiff match and came to challenge us. We do the same, we have a team of battlers who are winners with our skipper Scott Brown arguably being the biggest of our battlers. We put ourselves about a bit but we obviously stop at fully fledged assault, unlike some sides.

The Twitter aftermath totally had me miffed, calling for boycotts of future Australian tours because of the way Perth played and calls for boycotting the current tour altogether started to stir.

Everything that happens on the negative seems to lead to Twitter and the word boycott.

Lets hope it doesnt get like this: –

Boycotting for a bit of drizzle maybe? or because we are on TV that night?

Who knows what could be next. Could we please stop boycotting everything bhoys its getting annoying now.

    Spot on mate!

However I think a boycott of your page for being anti-boycott is in order, right I’m off to tweet my displeasure at the blog!

  • jmccal10 says:

Totally agree. I couldn’t believe some of the drivel I was reading on twitter after the Perth game. They got in our faces but no worse than any other clubs in the SPL. To be honest we shoulda taken it as a compliment – teams play hard when they recognise they don’t have the skill to compete. We even do it when we play barca et al.

As well as that, I kinda got the impression that a lot of people were only grumbling because they knew who was at the helm. Had they played hard against us, with no Ian Ferguson as manager, we wouldn’t be discussing this. I dislike Ferguson and what he stands for as much as any man but at least be rational about it.

    • Sean says:

Aye. I agree totally we need to honour our club jersey and stop whinging and be proud of whatever happens in matches rather than whine boycott everytime.

I do have sympathy for the great Mr Kayal as a nose break is a bad hit to take and can be painful for weeks (experienced it myself) but we cannot justify every tough tackle in a match with a cry of boycott.

Im sure Kayal is made of steel and will be back stronger than ever but surely for his sake and the teams sake we battle onwards and the outburst of boycott is not needed.

How do i get this annying Bud advert off , its there whenever i come on to this site ..pissed of

  • Fr Hugh Purcell says:

Boycott? Get real. We have plenty of players who can ‘look after themselves’ if things get nasty.
The way some people went on, you would think Hearts orchestrated the attack on Lenny. We have had our lunatics in the past.
I am sure Hearts are looking at their security procedures.
Let’s move forward to trying to win the SPL this season.

Advice, avoid twitter! Used to use it for Celtic news and contact with fans myself. Have stopped using it recently due to the amount of band wagon jumping and hypocritical shite spouted on it by some of our fans. It seems to give some sort of platform for idiotic campaigns which gather pace and supposedly represent us as a whole or in great numbers. Couldn’t be bothered going into it in detail but I have found i’m a far happier Tim without listening to the often sycophantic rants from the same people over and over on there which has a somewhat cultish tinge to it. New media is not without dangers especially when people are so easily influenced.

  • Steve Farrell says:

I agree totally with the article. I was at the Perth game and it was a competitive, hard fought game where the Perth boys were keen to get stuck in. Isn’t that what we want for preseason game? To tune us up for the season ahead? If we just want kick abouts then there would be no point having preseason games, the boys could just do training!

  • Vincent Doherty says:

You trivialise an important potential response by suggesting that some people who may support a certain tactic have lost the run of themselves. I personally support a Bhoycott of the next fixture at Tynecastle for very clear reasons, and will be arguing for this amongst the organised Celtic support. I would not waste my time on twitter or indeed on the vast majority of ‘comment’ sites because they are often littered with people who have little or no contact with the real world and clearly have little else to do. But I will argue through the Celtic Trust and encourage others in the CSA and the AICSC to do the same for a Bhoycott of the October fixture. The point is, we should not allow ourselves become victims of blatant discrimination and should hit those who think we will stand for any level of abuse where it hurts most, in this case in their pockets. I can assure you of one thing, we would only have to do it once!

    • Sean says:

Great opinionated view Mr Doherty. I get what you are saying but wouldn’t we be shooting ourselves in the foot as such when our best 11 heads to Tynecastle without our feared roar behind them?

I can sympathise with your view totally but would a boycott surely sort all this “eejit attacking our gracious leader” business.

Mr Doherty if you read http://thecelticblog.com/2011/06/blogs/the-ongoing-disrespect-to-celtic-fc you will see a few of my views on the subject matter, but I am not totally convinced a boycott would sort this mess out.

I do agree strongly with your point: –

“we should not allow ourselves become victims of blatant discrimination and should hit those who think we will stand for any level of abuse where it hurts most, in this case in their pockets”

That is where the governing bodies of Scottish football step in and when they do they step lightly almost like a tiptoe through soft sand and the outcome is they give a slight tap on the hand in fine terms to these persons / clubs / etc that partake in these grevious misdemeanours.

      • bhoylondon67 says:

Boycotting is far from ideal and yes it isn’t good for our players to have to play without the fans, but sadly i think we are being forced to make a decision, either use our strength to defend ourselves or just sit back and hope things change, i have been left disgusted and furious by blatant open bias, the way Lennon has been treated by opposition supporters AND opposition management and directors, by the SFA and by the media, we either choose to make sacrifices like having no support at swinecastle of sit back and just hope things eventually change, i don’t think we just moan and gripe about certain issues anymore, we are the biggest club in the SPL but are walked all over.

  • Frank Bullitt says:

One of the worst blogs I’ve ever read. To compare the Perth Glory match with what happened last season and indeed, during the summer, is infantile at best and imbecilic at worst.

  • lordofthewing says:

If you have posted and your comments haven’t shown up there is a problem that the intelligent hamsters are working on to fix.

    WE HAVE NOT DELETED THEM.

    Many thanks….as you were.

    • Paul G says:

Did Celtic fans not attack several stewards at the game just after Lennon was attacked???? Maybe that’s the reason they reduced the ticket numbers and if so fully justified! Anyway it’s a hard enough ground to get a result at with a healthy backing can you imagine how hard it would be without that backing???? sounds like a good way of throwing away 3 points

      • lordofthewing says:

Yes they did and that is inexcusable. But Hearts have flagged up that they believe that reducing the number of Celtic fans means that they’re fans will behave better.

        • Paul G says:

i dont ever remember reading hearts say that?

          • lordofthewing says:

Not word for word but they implicated that the behaviour of there fans was caused by ours hence reducing the tickets.

  • Robbie says:

I wish all the arm chair politicos and terrace Che Guevara’s would just drop it and let us get back to enjoying football again.

Looking forward to the new season, can do without politically motivated fans who seem to think that a 60,000 seater sports arena is all about them.

  • joecool says:

im split over boycotting certain grounds,i like the idea of hurting these clubs in the pocket, but want the players to know we back them-a live beam back to parkhead with say £5 entrance would give celtic the money and stop lining the other lots pockets-they say they dont need us,lets see what they say after a year of no gate money from us-GBNL

  • BrummieBhoy says:

Turn up and support the Bhoys and let them hear us roar. There is no greater sight and sound than the giant huddle to give the team a lift. Boycott their food, drink and programmes etc. but always support the Bhoys at the matches.

  • Sean says:

Boycott jamtarts food and drink – Buckfast and chip suppers being smuggled into tynecastle it is then 😀
