You are my Larsson, my only Larsson…

|

There have been a few interesting developments since my last blog; Fat Sally’s Rainjurs drawing at home to the Jam Farts and being 2 points behind Celtic already ;).  Then a man named Larsson scored at ipox to leave the fat Paul Le Guen  still searching for his first win as boss of the dark side. Long may this continue, Carlsberg don’t do opening week of the football season, but if they did….

Anyway, back to all things Celtic. Wednesday night a much changed Celtic side from which faced Hibs, played out a lackluster 2-0 defeat to Wolves. Only really Matthews, Mulgrew, Wanyama and Forrest got pass marks for me. Trialists Goalkeeper Pletikosa and strikers Mphela and Lacny all featured in the hope of each winning a contract with the hoops.

For me only Pletikosa looks worthy of a contract, he produced a good save when Kevin Doyle was through on goal, he didn’t really have much chance with the free kick or OG that found their way into his onion bag.  He’s 32 has experience, won 82 caps for Croatia, won’t cost a penny other than wages and has played for some decent European teams in the past. I think he’s worth a gamble and would provide good competition for Zaluska. The two strikers though, didn’t really show any signs of being better than the likes of Samaras, Murphy or Rasmussen never mind Hooper and Stokes, so I don’t think they’re worth a contract.

Speaking of Daryl Murphy and Rasmussen, I’d like to see them head out the exit doors at Celtic Park. Jos Hooiveld, Darren O’Dea, Shaun Maloney, Josh Thompson, Richie Towell and maybe even Daniel Majstorovic can join them.

I’d like to see another Centre back signed, so that we’d have Kelvin Wilson, Glenn Loovens (I’ve always been a critic of his, but he was impressive against Hibs),  Thomas Rogne, Lewis Toshney and Charlie Mulgrew as our 6 options. I’d actually like to see a partnership of K. Wilson and Mulgrew at the back; I think that would be solid enough, with Mark Wilson at RB and of course Emilio at LB and Kayal sitting in to protect them.

Another striker would be nice to provide competition to Hooper, Stokes, Samaras and James Keatings. The daily rags have had Celtic linked with moves for Motherwell‘s Jamie Murphy and Dundee United’s David Goodwillie.  Absolutely no way in hell do I want to see Goodwillie in a Celtic shirt.  Yes he scores goals and is pacey but I just don’t like the guy, simple as, nor do I think he’s any better than what we already have. Saying that, I’d hate to see him playing for Rangers as I think he would score a barrow load. I hope he pisses off down south for a big pay day. Jamie Murphy isn’t really Celtic quality either, although I don’t have a problem with him.

If Celtic sign up Pletikosa and get a new Centre back and a half decent striker in, then punt the deadwood before the end of the transfer window, then I think we’ll definitely win the league this year.

Oh and before I go, last week I said Anthony Stokes would be our top scorer this season, well he’s off the mark already and I’m betting on him getting another 24 goals IF he’s played regularly.

Hail Hail & Keep the Faith.

Think we need to off load Sammy he’s just not cutting it regular enough for me would like to seen Mphela sign but don’t think h’s gonna get the chance but we definitely need big man upfront for Europe as well as class goalie like Maninnger and another centre half

    HAIL HAIL FOREVER MORE!!!!!111111

upon reflection, why do we need a new striker ?
would hooper bond as well with him as he does stokes ?

we have a class front two.

if lenny doesn’t like stokes then fair play, it happens in football.

would hooper be as good behind a tall target man ?

we have a great partnership in hooper and stokes.

I think we are looking for a 3rd striker. Murphy and Samaras scored under 6 goals between them last season. Any striker at Celtic, for me, should be hitting double figures per season.

If 1 of them gets injured we would be left relying on Sammy and he’s just not good enough.

your a wiser man than me but i’d much prefare Majstorovic than Loovens. Glenda will flop at the first sign of real trouble. Rogne’s showed he could turn out to be a really good player given time. the end of the transfer window seems years away especially when it comes Emilio & Kayal. i’ve gave up on the ‘media’ a long time ago for ‘true’ stories & will wait & see who stays

Glenda seems to have Lennons vote. That is hard to believe…..

I agree, Big Dan is better than Loovens, Loovens has had chances to make an impact and hasn’t, i don’t agree about Rogne, he’s not good enough.
Mulgrew, Big Dan and K.Wilson are our only reliable centre backs.

  • colin garvey says:

yeah think we need to be grateful for small mercies when big Glenda hits good form so need good back up just hope they get few needy first team run outs but think we’re in good hands with the three wise kings Lenny, Johann and Thommo

Some would argue that the keeper was at fault for the goal. As is my default mode, I blame Broonie. He jumped out the way.

Plus, I would give Rasmussen a run his weekend against the Irish Young Farmer And Builders Select.
