‘Assualt by finger nail’

In the week which saw him be inducted into the SFA Hall Of Fame for ‘Services to Scottish Football’ (or the only place he has never got the sack), Terry Butcher launched a scathing attack on those who presented him with this accolade and the men who officiate the games.

Terry cried for Argentina:

It happens because referees are rushed into making decisions. If they just step back and look at it then they’d realise it’s not a red card.

“I’m bitterly disappointed and I’ll tell you what happens now. We’ll have a look at the DVD and probably say we’re going to appeal.

“I, or someone who represent the club, will go down toGlasgow. We’ll do all the necessary work and ensure we’ve got the paperwork in place by Tuesday afternoon.

The referee sees it; he then replies by Wednesday afternoon. Then I’ll sit down in front of the compliance officer and then in front of the SFA panel; which is three men.

“All of whom have never played football. And if the referee doesn’t change his mind then there’s no point in me going down.

“So, I’ll waste £1,000 of the club’s money plus train fare and everything else and it’ll be a complete waste of time.”

So, what is the punishment for questioning referees integrity and value of the new disciplinary committee?

The red card is rescinded – correct decision – and the player doesn’t even pick up a retrospective yellow as the foul was deemed ‘careless‘ not ‘dangerous‘.

Result.

I’m still awaiting the ref’s to call a strike, the press to tell ‘El Tel’ that things balance themselves out and the SFA to call him before them.

Butcher also added:

“Fifteen games played this season and not one penalty.”

 I’m off to the bookies.

You would think EL TEL would know you have to get into the box to get a penalty, big Fud!

    • lordofthewing says:

I’m willing to bet they will get a pen if one of their players (a term I use loosely) collaspes near the box.

What is Wullie Golum upto this weekend?

  • Iona says:

It was not a red card so get a grip of yourself with your conspiracy theories. That picture was taken when the boy was falling down AFTER the challenge for one thing and Samaras acted like an idiot for another. I’m a Celtic fan but I’m sick of folk like you. Let it lie.

    • lordofthewing says:

I do say it wasn’t a red card. I’m sick of folk like you who don’t read the badly written articles. I do think it was a booking though.

Also, Butchers comments. Anyworse than Lennon’s last season?

      • Iona says:

It doesn’t matter if it was a yellow card or not… At the end of the day it’s another case of ‘everybody hates Celtic’. Jesus, shut up. Yes, we get treated less fairly than other teams but it’s not going to change anything by complaining about other managers.

No, and if Butcher gets punished for that then so be it. Lennon’s comments came at a time when there was different rules in place to deal with these things and he paid the price for it and took it all in his stride.

        • lordofthewing says:

You admit that we get treated differently then basically say we should just accept it. Great, makes Lennon’s fight last all worthwhile then.

I will highlight hypocrisy when we see it.

Lennon and Butcher both brought the game into disrepute. One got vilified the other gets praised.

          That’s the point.

        • Iona says:

Nobody loves us, everybody hates us… blah blah blah. I am not saying accept it, I’m saying one badly written article where you bitch about it like a wee girl is not going to change anything. I am also saying that it’s not Butcher’s fault, it’s the SFA’s so take it up with them.

    • Stevie says:

Very much doubt your a Celtic fan but if you are tell me what will happen when Lenny next questions the honest mistake merchants?.

      • Iona says:

Of course, because anyone who doesn’t agree with the conspiracy theories obviously can’t support the team? I support the team because of the way that they play not the crap that happens off the pitch. If we get treated unfairly we are allowed the same opportunities to appeal and complain, don’t act like there’s different rules for everyone but Celtic.

        • Stevie says:

Well let’s just bury our heads in the sand, well not me thanks very much I wont be happy till we,re treated fairly. Don’t think it gives us any pleasure constantly complaining but the evidence is there of bias and being treated unfairly.
So if your happy don’t complain some of us aren’t. HH

        • bhoylondon67 says:

Well actually an independent Judge labelled George Peat and the SFA “contrary to fair play” last season when he sat in on Lennons hearing which was unprecedented.

  • Dean says:

There’s an interview with Butcher on BBC from about a year ago where he slams Celtic for putting pressure on refs and states we don’t do that here. Shameful hypocrisy.

  • Stevie says:

I think it was a red card the intent was there. I suppose the foul on big dan wasn’t a sending off either only the six studs got him in the thigh.
