This ‘Scottish football needs Rangers’ line is really beginning to get on my thru penny bits.
Lets look at the facts; during the early 1980?s Rangers home attendances were about 18,000. When Lawrence Marlborough arrived in 1986 Rangers started spending money and suddenly they found another 30,000 loyal fans.
Rangers since that time year on year have spent a minimum £10M more than they were taking in.
It is easy to support a team that sweeps all before it especially if neither the supporters or the club actually pay for it.
To continue with this success we now know that there has been at least a decade of cheating and underhand tactics.
It is easy playing at being the big club but with that comes responsibility. Not responsibility to your own club but to the game as a whole.
This has not been the case here; first, last and always Rangers have been interested in Rangers. Their domination of the Scottish game was built on bullying, cheating and trampling on the aspirations of every other club in the league who were attempting to play by the rules.
How large must your ego be that even when you know that your success is built on deceit and unsporting ideals, and you have been found out, you still don’t show any level of remorse or embarrassment.
It will be interesting to see if there is no SPL for them next year how many of the loyal will continue to turn up. Perhaps the myth will be shown for what it is; a grotesque monstrosity that pandered to a support with a superiority complex that belongs not in the twenty first or even the twentieth century.
The last thing Scottish football needs is Rangers; a toxic brand with morally bankrupt leadership for over two decades and a support who demand success like spoilt children with an unhealthy sense of entitlement.
A club with a current £10M black hole in their accounts and no European football for at least one year and possibly the next three. A club that might not even be Rangers but which will attract all the nasty baggage of the previous club.
Yes that is what Scottish football cannot live without!!
As for every other club in this discredited shambles of a league; well Celtic play ‘the down trodden, put upon, discriminated against’ card very well. The club has recently stated it has a stand alone policy.
Well we shall shortly see if that is truly the case but I have my doubts.
As for the rest of the clubs, you know the clubs that are always telling us they want rid of the Old Firm, well it is time to stand on your own two feet. In the name of goodness form robust business plans that allow you to be independent of the big two, or indeed one, instead of moaning about being constantly drained by the big two. Show ambition within reason and listen to your fans, the people that ultimately run this league, and who will walk away if the wrong decisions are made in the near future.
I really feel for the future of our sport.
The SPL will drag their feet on the two contracts issue until a new club is voted into the SPL and by that time there will nothing that can be done.
The SFA, manned by ex-Rangers men and sympathisers, will avoid their responsibility for overall governance of the Scottish game until the SPL complete their own two contracts investigation.
UEFA, believing that the SFA are competent, will allow this to be handled by the national association.
The school of vested interest is already in place and will not be moved regardless of the pressure brought to bear.
This is the biggest sporting scandal in British history and I fear it will be glossed over and the cheats steam rolled back into the SPL because after all we really need them.
Good points and normally I would agree but I am not to sure about this, this time it is out in the open, quite a bit of it anyway and they will not be able cover it up as they have done for over a century, I think this time they have went to far believing they are above redress just because they have always been able to run the show without being too scutinised, not this time, they will never be the same again whatever happens.
I think the court action just might take all of this into new ground. Civil courts are anathema to EUEFA and FIFA both. They have always demanded, rightly or, as I believe, wrongly that they be held above the law by their associations. Whilst they themselves may have even more need of scrutiny than our mob, they do not take kindly to anybody trying to outdo them and certainly not to those that ‘do them’. Dufty and Nufty have just done that with today’s action and the will surely soon be renamed Belted and Skelpted – maybe ‘deceased’. I have grave reservations, no, I firmly believe that our footballing authorities will always act in the best interests of 1 club. However, they are faced with the desecration of the inner European and world sanctums. The only escape cleanly from the quicksand is adherence to EUEFA and FIFA regulations. Failure to do so guarantees they will be sucked under.

The problem of being ‘sucked under’ is that we will all get ‘sucked under’ with them. Because the SFA won’t act Celtic, Motherwell and every other team will be denied European football and possibly even the national team will be banned all because ‘Rangers are too big to fail’.
I hear you and have been a disbeliever up till now.Do you not think this would bring the whole issue into the public domain and could the SFA cope with that.

I believe that most guys within the SFA only want to get on the UEFA gravy train. If they shut up and do as they are told then they may get that chance. The fact that Campbell Ogilvie is still there, giving out the medals at the Scottish Cup final last week, gives you an idea of how these guys view themselves. Utterly bomb proof and since their team is going down the stank they will let everyone go with it.
Agreed…UEFA & FIFA are just waitin tae see how far this FIASCO goes and will step in when they think enoughs enough ya useless muppets….Theres just too much crap under the rug?
thats the thing isnt it, the reason the results of the investigation into contracts is being withheld is because they are guilty. the SFA are waiting for rangers to commit suicide by appealing to courts so that when they do get expelled, there will be nothing left to do but to make a newco, which will probably be voted into the spl. its to put the blame on uefa and the courts, to turn rangers into the victims (like they so painfully have been trying to do for months and utterly failing) while the sfa stand back and say “nothing to do with us”. its filthy, and its so obvious that its a deal between the club and the sfa, no doubt. the first tier tribunal has almost definitely passed aswell so god knows why that result hasnt been reported in the media, oh wait, its because its to do with murray and nothing to do with craig whyte…succulent lamb is still being savoured it seems, but not for long…
Mark I disagree. The club will not be expelled because then there is no licence to play football. It is the removal of the licence that will kill Rangers.
Would you buy a football club who is not allowed to play football?
