James Sharkey was born on the 12th of February 1934 and later joined the Celtic family when he sighed for the Bhoys in the 1950’s.

James Sharkey simply referred to as Jim Sharkey or more creatively know as Snake Hips Sharkey fully sighed for Celtic on the 1st of December 1954. Sharkey was a player that lacked pace, but more than made up for it with great footwork and skill on the ball.

He would make his debut in a 2-0 victory over Raith Rovers a year later. He would also score his debut goal in this game.

He would spend around three years with the hoops before moving on to Airdrie. He played a total of 27 games for Celtic and netted a total of 8 goals.

Sharkey passed away recently at the age of 80 and as a tribute the player wore black armbands during their 2-0 win over Kilmarnock today.

Rest In Peace, Snake Hips Sharkey, You may have not been a long term player of Celtic but once a Celt, always a Celt.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone here at thecelticblog.com are with Jim Sharkey’s family and friends.
