Tonight the first major cracks – literally – in the Dave King operation are now clear for all to see, as the second half of Sevco’s match with Dumbarton was delayed so that a group of supporters could be moved, due to a piece of the stand blowing in the wind.

This is a shocking – but long expected – development, with the club having basically decided to forgo essential work to the ground so as not to add to their overall expenditure.

Indeed, it’s pretty incredible to me that the second half was even allowed to begin, as something like this represents a danger to supporters and others whether people are moved from the immediate area or not. Celtic v Inverness, in the Scottish Cup, was famously called off at Celtic Park for a similar reason, and we all know what happened in the replayed match.

The King operation at Ibrox has attracted interest from the Celtic blogs, who have alleged that things over there are being done on the cheap.

This is a clear example of that, and one many of us have been awaiting for a long time.

The façade at Ibrox – the actual one, as opposed to the boardroom one – now resembles a crumbling relic, and that obviously has safety implications.

Ibrox needs millions spend on it.

We have known that for a while now.

The club really ought to be taken to task for this.

Safety certificates are, of course, a pre-requisite for club licensing … not that the SFA has ever taken those rules particularly seriously in the case of clubs playing out of that dilapidated stadium …

Nevertheless, this isn’t a joke.

This is serious stuff, and only one of a number of problems over which Dave King and his hapless board have little control.

These things end up with a momentum of their own, and if Ibrox really is coming down around their ears … well, there’s no way in Hell the members of the board can stump up the cash for everything.

The whole club is a shambles.

The sooner Celtic are playing in a more competitive league wherever that may be the better it will be for us. Scotland’s shame must be brought to bear and quickly. I am no longer proud to be a Scot.

    The crumble dome indeed.

  • TyreTim says:

This is in no way a cheap shot but Rangers F.C. had been warned and instructed, prior to the Ibrox disaster, about the safety of those stairs due to a previous incident. I would hope the custodians of the current stadium would have that in mind.

  • Gavin says:

I thought this was a wind up! Surely they need to have a safety inspector come around and give a full appraisal of the stadium,. Asbestos and all.

Was Speaking to a friend of my son who’s company were dealing with (pound land) Ibrox during the CGS for the rugby,he felt,it was in a 90s time warp old phones etc,he could not understand then how it had got it’s safety certificate.looks as it’s now coming home to roost, safety is imperative.

  • Hugh Burns says:

Every-one has known for a few years now that “castle-grays-scull ” has been falling about their ears. Why has the S.F.A. issued safety certificate too a crumbling stadium in the past years? Shut it down now and put a match too it. Then again – they say that stuff does not burn.!! It is also full of asbestos and should never have had a safety certificate but once again the good old “brothers” from the knuckle-cracking S.F.A. just shut their eyes as usual with the ” manky mob” and issued one. Now the beaks in the blazers will have to do some-thing and close it down. Oh the big hoose is falling down ,falling down , falling down oh the big hoose is falling down lets all have a laugh.!

    • A fairley says:

Dont bite guys these aresholes are just waiting for to kick rangers in the teeth they dont support scottish football they just want scottish football to fail well im going to tell you scottish football IS FUCKED.

    • sands macSwineys says:

Safety certificates are not issued by the SFA. The local council in conjunction with the emergency services issue them.

Asbestos is likely to be in every building in the country that was built prior to 1995. Its likely to be in our own place as well. Its nit a danger until it is disturbed.

Now, after that public safety announcement I would add, f*ck the sevco. Close them down!!! 🙂

  • Tonybeag 1960 says:

short term we might feel like a wee gloat but Celtic as a a big club will be a lot poorer without rangers as a half decent club ,I think the evidence is there already, maybe we should put round the plate ( special collection) I’m sure it would help both clubs long term.

    Sad sad fkn sad

  • eyes shut tight says:

For years the hunnic hordes have been raving about their 5 star stadium, one of Europe’s finest etc etc……..UEFA should immediately order it shut down and condemned until all repairs are made. Remember the fun they had at Celtic’s expense when on a gale ridden day part of the main stand blew off or was in a precarious, dangerous state. The game was properly called off for the sake of safety & the hordes roared with delight. What goes around comes around..Karma indeed!
