Today, I can exclusively reveal that a guy down in my local boozer says Sevco will win the Champions League by the year 2018.

He has no basis for saying this other than he once went to school with a kid who played in their reserve team, and knows how hard the kid works.

The Daily Record is thinking of giving him four pages to tell his story.

In other news, Chris “Union” Jack has been in touch with Sean Dyche for his views on what Sevco can do to restore their league lead.

Apparently all they have to do is believe.

You see what I did there?

I manufactured not only a headline but a story.

Chris Jack does the same thing for a national newspaper.

Today the press is actually filled with seasonal positivity for Sevco, but The Evening Times in particular.

In a week where we’ve highlighted some of the failings of Ronny Deila, it’s instructive to note that our team is still a point ahead in the title race, has a game in hand and are in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

It is Warburton’s side who have blown a solid lead completely, been knocked out of that tournament already and are about to take on their title rivals in the midst of disastrous form.

This site has written about Celtic’s situation, because that’s what we have to do if we’re going to see our club get better.

But we’ve also highlighted the spectacular tailspin at Ibrox, and looked at how the Warburton revolution is already hitting the skids.

The media only focusses on one of these.

We know which one it is.

They could, if they so chose, find people who’ve worked at Celtic Park or people who’ve worked with Ronny Deila, to tell you how he will turn things around, about what a good manager he is, about how the club will move forward under his control.

They’d rather not.

They’d rather find his every critic and give them column inches instead.

I make no apology for being critical of Ronny … and I have no issue with the media doing it.

I do have issue with their double standard.

Because there are no shortage of “experts” lining up to tell us how “Warbo” will turn it around.

Mark Warburton arrived in Scotland with no managerial pedigree to speak of, save for one season at Brentford – hardly a footballing superpower, with all due respect to them.

Ronny arrived as a title and cup winning boss.

We know which one they were determined to undermine before his feet were under the desk.

We know who they labelled a genius.

When a manager is underperforming – and due to our collapse in form in Europe and our recent record at home Ronny definitely is – criticism is valid, and goes with the territory.

But it isn’t even remotely even-handed.

Warburton, like McCall before him and “Coisty” before him, gets a free ride with the lunch thrown in.

When a Celtic manager is under pressure, the media does everything it can to make that pressure worse.

If there’s a rent-a-gob ex player, like Andy Walker or Charlie Nicholas, someone who can be relied on to stick in the boot, that person will be sought out and their “opinion” canvassed.

When a Sevco manager is under pressure, the only people the media ever seems to want to talk to are those who can put a happy spin on matters.

Sean Dyche is the manager of Burnley.

How often do you think he’s watched Sevco play football this year?

He tells you. Zero.

The last time he saw them play was the pre-season friendly which his side won at Ibrox before the season even began.

His opinion is about as valid as that of the guy down the boozer, but Jack devoted not one, not even two but three separate articles to that opinion, touching on the Sevco crowd, the coaching system at the club and how Warburton couldn’t turn the offer from Ibrox down when it came.

First, his experience of the Sevco crowd is limited to that one match.

Some of us have been exposed to them with a little more frequency and know what they are about.

Second, how in God’s name can you comment, with any depth of knowledge at all, on another club’s internal workings?

And as to the last article … it’s easy to see why Warburton couldn’t turn Sevco down.

He was on the dole.

There were no others offers for his services.

On top of that, due to media hype he would have believed, at first, this guff about them being a “sleeping giant” and doubtless one with money to spend.

The treatment this guy gets in unreal, but it’s the usual for a manager in the Blue Room.

The incumbents at Celtic Park get scrutinised in a very different way and their every action in a very different light.

It’s not a surprise, but it continues to piss many of us off.

  • Mulroy Bhoy says:

Over the top criticism on Celtic blogs has not helped the situation. Is Warburton in receipt of similar comments on Sevco blogs? Doubtful. The media is simply reflecting the opinions of those being expressed.

    • James Forrest says:

The criticism on the Celtic blogs has been anything but over the top.

On the contrary, aside from the petition it’s been balanced and reasonable and perfectly valid.

Some people would not criticise our club if we were bottom of the SPL.

Some of us have higher standards.

      • Tom says:

Standards? The reaction from “fans” is nothing short of disgraceful. We don’t need Sevco to hate us our fans do that. The reaction to everything be it the manager, board, team etc is disgusting.

  • edward says:

What you did say about Deila was if he stays on till next season we will not qualify for the Champions League .
Maybe you should show some balance in your comments about our Manager.

    • James Forrest says:

I base my view on evidence.

I am not complaining about the media criticising Deila. He deserves it.

Warburton does too though, and they never criticise him.

I’ve been balanced. I’ve been reasonable. The manager does not inspire confidence.

    • swiss says:

James I have to say i agree with Edward and and Mulroy about your article, seems an uneven balance based on your previous writings about Ronnie……more balance indeed needed.
Attack the media James for sure because we all know what they are like…….

      • James Forrest says:

        Where is it “uneven”?

I’ve said in this piece that I don’t apologise for a word that appeared in the others but this article ISN’T ABOUT THAT … this is about the press.

My own opinion has sod all to do with the point of this one.

But again, I’ll state my own view very clearly.

The media is RIGHT to criticise Deila and so are a lot of Celtic supporters. This guy is not moving us forward.

But Warburton is not moving Sevco forward either. My point is that there’s more to write about at Ibrox than at Celtic Park … and the media has chosen not to bother.

That’s their own business. I’ll write what I see, wherever I see it.

        • swiss says:

James………No need to shout with the upper case we are all entitled to our opinion even
the people who read your articles..
When has the Scottish media ever been remotely balanced when it comes to Celtic……never.
Thats the way it is in Scotland and the way it will always be……who cares if Warbo is not moving Sevco forward, given the current situation at Celtic i would say there is more to write about at Parkhead.
          HH

  • charles crichton says:

Your paranoia is staggering. As is your obsession with Scotland’s most successful club Rangers. Btw has Downsize fc heard from UEFA yet?

  • Hugh Burns says:

Every time sport news come on S.TV and BBC news newco are mentioned first on both stations.! The champions of Scotland – Celtic, have too take second place to a club that has cheated for years and are still being poutded as Rangers – which they are not – in liquidation – and the media are fully intent in keeping the cheats in the fore front. Surly there is some thing far wrong with our society if cheats and scum bags are kept out in the front pages of the media? This is Scottish free masonry showing itself up -but they will deny it as they also don`t know how to tell the truth. But why let the truth come in before a good (lying)story?.

  • Deb Fergus says:

Pacific Shelf are completely infatuated witb Rangers FC. It’s actually flattering because it shows how much it gets to them that we’re still the most successful club in Scotland. Which reminds me bhoys, see that official SPFL website that lists Rangers as Scotland’s most successful club? Or Rangers own website which states the same? That would be illegal both civilly and criminally if untrue. So why not contact Companies House to complain. You may get better results than you got with the ASA but iv’e a feeling you will be laughed at again. Your club and it’s “support” is an embarrassment. As Mr Durham so rightfully said.

    • PM says:

      Deb,

Nobody is or has ever been disputing that Rangers are (were) Scotland’s most successful club (*reserve right to amend comment if any trophies are expunged)

That argument, from you, is a complete red herring.

What EVERYONE, save for those desperate to be/stay inside the tent, is saying is that the ‘club’ currently operating out of Ibrox is not the same entity but merely a follow-up/replacement act for the one which spent itself to death.

Having said that, the fans are the same and (in my opinion) a football club is its fans as, without them, they are nothing.

All the best for the festive! Hope Hibs pump you on Monday!

  • Thomas Forrester says:

I don’t support either of the ugly sisters but I have to say I agree with a comment above about Celtic fans being an embarrassment. There is a website called NewsNow I use regularly to keep tabs on matters fitbaw related,it basically compiles all news stories on the various clubs in one handy place. One thing strikes me everytime I use it. If you type in Rangers, you get of course the various tabloids current stories regarding Rangers, together with various fans forums (like this one) and with Rangers it’s Rangers forums discussing of course Rangers. Type in Celtic however and together with the tabloid stories on Celtic you get the various Celtic fans forums (like this one) discussing er….Rangers. And it is constant. Why are you so obsessed about a club you (ludicrously) say does not exist? Why do you care? They don’t even play in the same division. Of course, the ironic thing about all this is that you yourselves don’t even realise that for all your monotonous “sevco” this and “sevco” that, your very obsession in itself proves beyond doubt that despite all your platitudes to the contrary it is plain deep down you know Rangers are not only regarded as the same club but indeed ARE the same club…otherwise why the never ending infatuation/obsession? Move on bhoys for goodness sake, your doing your club and yourselves no favour whatsoever. It’s not as if you don’t have enough to discuss about your own club with shocking European performances, poor performances in the league, empty seats in abundance on show together with online petitions to sack your manager and impending UEFA punishments. And have you even noticed how much your club has regressed in recent seasons? No amount of statues reflecting on past glories will hide the present. Forget about Rangers and concentrate on your own club. You’ll be better for it…and will lose the laughing stock tag many have about you.

  • John Francis Cross says:

Wow, We should all be ashamed according to Deb Fergus who is commenting on a Celtic blog about how we’re all obsessed with Sevco. The fans that follow the tribute act you’ve come to love have a tremendous reputation for good behaviour right enough!
They must be the same club if it says so on their own website. Conclusive evidence indeed! Funny how we had never heard of this Pacific Shelf bollocks until Rangers died then they had to create a story that the same thing happened to Celtic. In doing so they acknowledge that their club did indeed die and a new one had to be granted a licence to play in the bottom tier which would not have been required had they been the same club all along. That is also why their players no longer had an employer and went to new clubs without a transfer fee changing hands.
Still clinging to the survival myth and that their deceased club is the most successful despite it dying trying to equal our European Cup triumph which is of more value than 10 of the old club’s tainted titles so that is another load of cobblers. You keep reading Adrian Durham hen. The rest of us will be in the real world if you need us! 😉 HH

Yes we’ve all heard of Pacific Shelf etc. plenty of times since none of you filthy cheating bigot scumbags will shu8t up about it. The difference is that when you idiots initially raised these “issues”, we actually investigated them to see if there was any truth to it (there wasn’t, not that you or your knuckle-scraping-waste-of-oxygen brethren will admit it). Unlike you witless imbeciles who let your club DIE because you wouldn’t believe the truth as it was coming from your “enemies”.

The only infatuation the us Tims have with “Scotland’s most successful football club” (snigger aye right *cough* European cup *cough*) is that their shameless corpse is brought to justice for all the tax evasion and crime they are GUILTY of. This current bunch of pathetic diddies playing out of Derelictbrox are an absolute joke, no-one is obsessed with them other than the agnivores in the media. As a neutral with no love for either of the ugly sisters i have to agree with a comment above. Celtic fans are completely obsessed about Rangers, which is ludicrous when at the same time you claim they actually don’t exist (scratches head). Your own team have just been embarrassed again in Europe where they have been reduced to minnow status, your crowds have plummeted with swathes of empty seats on view, there is currently a petition to sack your manager and your club is downsizing at an alarming rate. And on top of that there is a real possibility of UEFA taking stern action against your club due to the actions of morons. There is also every possibility of Rangers returning to the top league next season. And i say return because the governing bodies tell me they will be returning, they are the same club,so please do not insult my intelligence with wishful thinking or deluded drivel. My advice is to concentrate on matters at Celtic because you may be in danger of finding yourselves overtaken by the very club your so obsessed with.

    Merry Christmas Sir,

The aim of the media is to sow division within Celtic fans and the club, it’s a double edged sword as it works well with their target audience, who can’t get enough puff about Sevco in order to salve the aching hole left in it’s black heart when Rangers died. So forget about balance it will never happen, it’s all about economics.

The thing about pressure is that if you apply enough, you can change a lump of coal into a diamond. That’s what I think about Celtic fans and the club.

  • Garry says:

    To the zombie posters.

    DEFINITION of ‘Liquidation’
    1. When a business or firm is terminated or bankrupt, its assets are sold and the proceeds pay creditors. Any leftovers are distributed to shareholders.

Terminated is a key word here.

If your club had continued then perhaps you should start paying your creditors. But it didn’t, it died, hence the stiffed creditors.
    Cheats, thieves and bigots.

When is the new club gonna pay MA?

Your new club has zero credibility and 3 years history.

    Merry Christmas ya filthy animals!!

    • Ten Euro Tam says:

I would add that Rangers 1872-1899 partnership status was indeed a business 1899-1986 Ltd Status was indeed the same business just a different corporate structure !986-2012 PLC status was also the same business just another corporate structure change. The first corporate structure change in 1899 allowed the partners to avoid personal liability in event of an insolvency event. Limits liability hence Ltd. The PLC status change allows shareholders to have almost instant access to liquidity from their shareholding, raises the company platform public scrutiny but allows the company to raise capital more easily and access better terms of loans depending on their business risk. If a plc has a holding company above the actual business then thats legal also, if the holding company is massive company then the held Company in this case Rangers FC ( read the memorandum and articles of association of Dead Rangers you will find that Club/Company is interchangeable) can get access to even better loan terms and conditions with Holding company as Guarantor in event of insolvency of the subsidiary company/ business. Murray group was a massive company hence the massive loans Rangers acquired. But when things were going pear shaped it could be argued that Murray group ditched the subsidiary to Whyte holding company to get that debt off his books. The subsidiary PLC Rangers Fc club and company still hadn’t changed from its original business. Still same old Rangers just different corporate structure. But when that insolvency effect took place the massive holding guarantor had ditched his liability onto Whyte holding company which was incapable of sustaining the business it liquidated. Rangers FC died in 2012 the club/ company as described in all its AGM briefings since in captain in 1872. Therefore Rangers legally died AS club in 2012. Brand and other assets can be sold which of course happened to try and raise some cash for stiffed creditors of Shamed club. But step brother Rangers no matter how dysfunctional they remain will never be able to claim dead clubs history. Perhaps can associate themselves by holding the brand and assets. But claim the history. Thats impossible. No different to me changing my Name to Bolt and buying Gold medal and saying I am the fastest man alive. x

  • Ten Euro Tam says:

I fully agree with the whole balance and perspective thing which you highlight in your story. I haven’t benn overly impressed with Celtic this season and I certainly don’t think we are moving forward at any great rate if at all. But we all know for years that Rangers (and now step brother tribute act Rangers) have always had a balance of perspective bias in Scottish press. Its Christmas day and to be honest, poor Ronnie does get a lot of criticism (mostly warranted when we don’t play well and lose the match), but Our newspapers do love to stick the boot in when things aint going so great for Celtic but seldom reach the same criticism of any Manager in charge at Ibrox. Criticism yes but definitely always more upbeat towards the unsustainable ones. Had Ronny played with 442 tactics at home at least ( formation that I personally like when played with the traditional Celtic flair) I would be less critical of him even if results were even worse. Not sure he gets the best out of any of the lads we bought from Dundee Utd but Griffiths has become a real top striker (imo) who would only get better if he had a decent target man to bounce off. We all know and knew before they transitioned into a dysfunctional version of the true Rangers that the press gloried in their beloved Culturally obscene Supremicist boys from Ibrox. Has always been that way. Its like watching English commentators watching the England game on Tv during the world cup, it always has the ability to turn the stomach at how biased they can be. The truth though is that Celtic aren’t that Great but despite that we are miles ahead of Rangers even when we aren’t playing well. But while our press tell us Scottish football is dire. They always manage to glorify the fake bears. When they beat anyone the headlines are always of the type” Oh what a performance form the super talented Warbo and his superstar team from heaven” Even when they aren’t playing well they promote how its just minor blip on the road to world domination. But when they get beaten by Falkirk or draw against Morton its still upbeat Next week it will all be different just you wait and see. But we know its corrupt. Had us believing for awhile that maybe just maybe we were paranoid all along. That is till they died and still the headlines are ever praising. That alone should be the wake up call. But really they never died. How can a football team die. Its not really a business. For that stuff to be printed in any newspaper tells it own story. But to be printed in all newspapers proves that its not just football thats corrupt. Its our whole system of stewardship accountability and transparency and actually printing balanced and true reports. SO I salute your balanced approach. Think we are often overly critical of our manager. But thats normal. We want to win and win with style. But the press are their to give a balanced view. Whereas its the opposite way round here. We are often balanced (sometimes overly critical of our own flaws) but the press is biased against us at every opportunity and even when we do play well the story is often about who Deadco is coming to get us. Whereas the balance of criticism is not there for poorly performing Busted FC. I have feeling they are a different pathology to normal. They are like psychopathic can’t see bad in themselves can’t see good in anyone else. Now we have elements of that in our clubs from certain fans but they at least have reason to have hatred against the system since the system actually does hate them. But there are very few balanced Rangers fans. i still have yet to meet one who can openly say that their club took excessive risks with loans and dodgy tax schemes and the side letter issue is the worst case of deliberate cheating in Sport that I am aware about. But I haven’t met a single Rangers fan who can admit any of 1 Their club cheated 2 Their club died 3 Their culture is abhorrent 4 That most of their directors since PLC status should actually be in prison 5 That their directors past and present should apologise to Scottish football and Rangers creditors about anything. They actually don’t think they did anything wrong. And to have press that not only condones the nonsense that passes at Football Governance since 2012 is a complete joke. I will continue to buy my seat for the games. I love Celtic. Even when i aint that impressed with the football. But if Step Brother Rangers are allowed back into Premier league (by hook or by crook) without an apology for cheating and then trying their best to wreck the game for everyone else then I don’t know if I could stomach watching a corrupt game next season onwards. Thanks for the balanced approach you take James. No matter how low they stoop Im proud to Support a team that produces mostly balanced fans. And despite our defence and lack of entertainment at times I think I want Ronnie to stay and prove me wrong. Merry Xmas to all.
