Keep Kazim Richards Away From Celtic Park

In the time I’ve been writing blogs, I’ve never, not once, called out a player before I’ve seen him play a match for the club, but this time I’m willing to make an exception.

Colin Kazim Richards ought never to pull on a Celtic shirt, and if he does I am appalled at everyone inside Parkhead who sanctioned the deal.

For one thing, his career stats do not inspire optimism. He’s not someone you’d bet on first goal scorer on Betfred.

For a striker, at 29, to have scored less than a hundred career goals makes his signing an absurdity.

For him to have scored less goals than Leigh Griffiths has in a Celtic shirt speaks volumes.

But even if he were ten times as prolific, I wouldn’t want him near Parkhead.

This guy has brought trouble with him everywhere he’s played.

He’s currently serving a ban in Holland for threatening a journalist; his signing comes days after this site, Fields and a host of others were banging the drum loudly in praise of journalistic freedom.

To say that’s an own goal, and a PR disaster in the making, is an understatement.

But it gets worse.

At Brighton he submitted a transfer request after being left out of one game.

At Fenerbahce, he left under a very big cloud after lying to the club about his whereabouts when he hit the town for a piss up whilst under a four game ban and then denied it, causing the club enormous embarrassment when they published those denials in a press release.

His antics at Feynoord are well known; after objecting to an article written about his performances he told the writer that he was “waiting outside” and that he would “put him to sleep.”

If he thinks the press in Holland was negative wait until he appears in the cross-hairs of Hugh Keevins and Chris “Union” Jack.

It’s unconscionable for Celtic to be trying to sign such a renowned trouble maker.

And it’s even worse than that.

In April 2014, he made football history in the UK by becoming the first ever player to be convicted, in court, of making a homophobic gesture to rival fans.

The words “more trouble than he’s worth” come to mind, but it goes beyond just getting a truckload of grief for what I suspect will be a minimal return at best.

What’s our reputation as a club worth, for God’s sake?

What price do people inside the walls place on our dignity and our social standing?

On the evidence of this, none.

Not only that, but as his career headlines make plain this guy will be a troublesome influence in the dressing room and probably incite problems in the stands, something he did at Fenerbahce by having a very public spat with his own supporters.

Is this the kind of guy we want at Celtic Park?

The people running our club … sometimes they show the starkest signs that they simply don’t get where we, the fans, are coming from.

At other times it looks as if they know full well and just choose to treat our wishes and views with utter contempt.

Dare I say this looks more like the latter?

In the meantime, Nadir Ciftci is on the way out on loan, a player who offered practically no sign at all during his time at the club as to why he was “the first choice” of the manager in the summer. Whoever sanctions deals like that, and like this one, ought to be the first out the door at Celtic Park.

Disillusionment is total today.

Our club is mired in mediocrity and we’re about to heap shame on it.

Let’s face it recently every striker celtic have bought have been absolute shite so what’s another one going to matter

  • Stevie says:

Can he put away a penalty? ????

  • Joe says:

The other day day Celtic were linked with Christian Santos, his scoring record is far superior to Kazim Richards but it is obvious he must be the cheap option. It is getting harder to watch Celtic by the minute, they say they will only buy players that are better than the ones already there,I doubt this guy will be any better.

  • paddy travers says:

The word is that its john clark who decides who we sign…….this came from a very reliable source from within the club.

This was the reason why lenny and johan left……..they wanted complete authority over signings.

No one except the managr should ever decide who he wants in his team.

The power at be seem to be tearing our club from the inside out…….dont be surprised if it gets much worse.

James i have always found your articles to be honest and of the truth.

I have no reason to doubt you now.

I am becoming more and more disillusioned with the once great club called Glasgow Celtic.

  • Gav67 says:

We’ve had controversial players before at Celtic park ie Craig Bellamy Roy Keane Paulo di Canio give him a chance I say

  • robert campbell says:

Sanctimonious crap, when we had a team of choir bhoys Raith Rovers beat us in a cup final. His history sings out that we have a player who has something about him. Its not a job in the social work department that he is taking, its a job with Celtic. Signing for a team that is trying its very best to spread the available money that’s left once Lawell gets his million and Dermot gets his guaranteed return, is not a bad signing. We the fans do enough from time to time to heap so called “shame” on the club, so give us a break from those kind of comments. To succeed in any sport you need a heart first of all, our team has football players and no one with a heart, they are all tin men. Lets get a few in who other teams are afraid of for whatever reason, players with attitude. Go on Kazim make them all eat their words.

    • James Forrest says:

So you would take Ched Evans then? Cause that’s the logic of your bullshit position.

      • robert campbell says:

Its not bullshit. He has not raped anyone, Kazim has attitude. Just what we need, a few bullies on the pitch. We let our goal keeper get bullied yesterday. Our midfield was shoved around. Fight for the right to play. Kazim will do that allright. How does that smell Jamesie…

    • Pat says:

Yip ! If you follow the don’t sign bad Bhoys then no Jinky, Bertie, Dixie Bellemy, Hartson, Lenny, Stokes, Griffiths……….that was the trouble on Sunday Not Enough Bad Bhoys

  • tamtim says:

Well done to the developement team on beating a team called rangers today,if it were the other way round the daily pish would be all over it like a rash, well done BHOYS!!!

  • Graham says:

Better with a nutter than players like butter grain Gordon example he’s went from a good 8 to 2

  • K-Tim says:

El Hadj Diouf comes to mind when we talk of Richards. Who sanctioned this . Definitely not Celtic quality but the Club is heading on the road to mediocrity at the moment. Unfortunately.

  • Bill says:

Great article. More heart breaking evidence of how our once dignified, proud and respected club continues to prostitute itself and drag us into the gutter. Good point on Cifti too – one of the best illustrations yet on Delia’s utter incompetence – and bullshit. Let’s club together, buy Carlisle Utd with an immediate inclusion of green on the strip and a five year plan to change it to Carlisle Celtic/reach the Premiership.

  • Ramon the wolf says:

At the same time as we claim the moral high ground over bullying of journalists, we sign a player who… threatened a journalist.

  • Frank Brown says:

They’ve signed this joker because there was no fee involved. I, like you James looked at his Stats they make pretty poor reading.

  • retlaw23 says:

Your only answer to everyone on here who disagrees with you and there are plenty is to verbally abuse them with foul language and yet you feel it’s ok to sit in judgement of someone you don’t know. You’re full of your own importance and don’t speak for Celtic fans. Peter Lawell is doing a fantastic job.

    • James Forrest says:

No, he isn’t. Nowhere near it.

Peter Lawwell is the most over-paid and over-rated CEO in Europe.

Of any company, of any size.

That we keep on hearing how skint we are, and pay this guy £1 million a year … it’s outrageous and if you’re buying it, mate, you are a mug.

I’m sorry to put it so bluntly, and I’m sorry for a lot of other angry remarks I’ve made today, or the tone of them at least, but you are being taken for a ride.

      • tamila56 says:

in your opinion James ! but your are hardly an expert on C E O s in europe never mind how much they are paid Oor how they are rated . We are owned by Dermot Desmond and he rates him and until that changes theres not much we can do about it, facts and stats can be used to suit the person who uses them, we all should know that as they are used against us by our Scottish Media . You have called some people mugs and their opinions bullshit because it differs from yours , thats a bit harsh .

  • pablo277 says:

I’m sorry james you are so far off, stats don’t always tell the true story i’m an avid watcher of the eredivisie league and this guy is gonna bring a strength to the front that griffiths just does not have we’ve all just watched the hoops get dismantled by ross county no power or pace we have just sorted that out with this one.

  • baz says:

we’ll see but when are we going to play 2 up thats the main thing were lacking 2up

  • wulz says:

Give the guy a chance FFS !
    HH

  • harryc says:

Its a done deal so lets not bring him down till he gives us a reason to. Half a dozen games and a cupla months in Scotland should give us an idea?

  • Funkyy says:

After everything that has been said here, wouldn’t it be just like the thing if he starts banging in goals??!!!! lol

  • Kazimkulov says:

Kazim Richards joins along list of rogues at Celtic – get your head out the sand!
