Celtic’s Potential Transfer Windfall Would Dwarf Every Other Club’s Signing Budget

Today a number of stories from England appear to suggest that Celtic is in line for a huge transfer windfall.

This is fantastic news for the club and the manager but it’s also pretty revealing.

The windfall will come to us if Southampton sell one of their three former Bhoys, with Victor Wanyama the favourite to leave, with Tottenham said to be amongst a number of clubs who are supposed to be waiting in the wings.

On top of that, the news that Ronald Koeman has gone to Everton will see rumours swirl around Virgil Van Dijk and Fraser Forster.

The sale of any one of these players would net us a healthy sell-on percentage which could be as much as £3 million.

As this is new money and not already budgeted for, the manager could be expected to get every single penny of it.

What’s amazing is that this money, on its own, would dwarf anything that is on offer to any of Brendan’s rival bosses in the SPFL. Neither Aberdeen nor Hearts will spend much money and the notion that Sevco will have anything like that to spend is pretty much laughable. Our take from a mere sell on clause will actually be higher than the sums these three clubs will have to spend, probably combined … and that’s quite amazing.

In addition to this, any cash we’re likely to net would probably be worth more than any other club could actually get for one of its players in a straight up transfer deal. I can’t think of one SPFL player outside of Celtic Park who a club would actually pay £3 million to sign.

This is an enormous demonstration of our structural advantage over other clubs, and combined with the cash that is already on the table for the new boss thanks to the magnificent season ticket sales, there’s little sign that anyone can knock us off the top stop in the coming season.

The simple fact of it is that we should be uncatchable now Brendan is in charge.

As you look at the position our club is in right now you more and more come to realise that ten in a row really is ours to lose.
