In one of the most pleasant surprises the Celtic support has had in a while, Tom Rogic has tonight committed his future to the club for a further three years.

He had been linked with a move away for months; his decision not to sign towards the end of last season, coupled with stories of interest from clubs in England, appeared to have closed the door on his Celtic career.

Now Rogic has signed on for the long haul, and he has made it quite clear what the compelling, deciding, factor has been; the manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Major changes are sweeping through our club right now, with James Forrest already having decided he wants to stay and fight for a future under the former Liverpool boss.

However happy or unhappy we might be about that idea, we have to trust the boss. If he thinks Forrest has something more to offer let’s wait and see if he is right, but the way a lot of people in the squad have responded to this appointment has been hugely positive.

Rogic blows hot and cold at times, but when he is on his game there might not be a better goal-scoring midfielder in the country. He definitely has admirers south of the border and elsewhere, and would have had any number of options had he chose to leave at the end of his current deal.

Opting to stay, to signing a new deal, is great news for us.

If he can be utilised properly he could be a real star in the first team squad.

This is a real coup for us, but not for the first time the real story is the boss himself. Since coming to the club he’s transformed the mood. You can tell that people outside Celtic Park respect us again; we wouldn’t have gotten talented players like Toure and Sinclair otherwise.

This is one of our first signs as to how the Rodgers Revolution is being processed inside the club itself, and it’s a damned fine one. Things really are on the right track.

Tom Rogic has taken a bit of stick from a lot of fans, myself included, because he’s let this contract situation drift. All of us should be thankful that he’s decided to stay. The uncertainty over his future, and his commitment to the club, is now at an end.

We can start looking forward to seeing him at his very best.

In Brendan We Trust.
