As They Call For Regan’s Head It’s Clear Sevco Fans Are Too Dumb To Know Who Their Friends Are

There’s something about the supporters of Sevco that has always bugged me; their innate ingratitude.

Their tendency to turn on those who have their best interests at heart.

I used to think they were the most ungrateful people in Scotland.

Now I’ve changed my mind.

That’s not the problem.

The problem is that they’re stupid. Just too stupid to realise one of the most important things in the world; who their friends are. And I don’t include me or the other bloggers in that although we warned them about Whyte, about Green, about others. They didn’t just ignore us, they castigated us for it.

I expected no less. In the end, it has increased our mirth.

No the people I mean are those in the media and in the governing bodies.

The people who pander to them, time and time again, when a civilised, rational, well run world would condemn them instead and make them and their club own their occasionally abhorrent behaviour. They would hate that, too, of course, but at least the rest of us would be spared it.

I cannot believe the amount of vitriol and venom they push in the direction of the media and the SFA, in particular. It is entirely misplaced. The thing of it is, I reckon both those institutions have spectacularly failed them, and on some level they understand that just fine. But the nature of their anger is wholly misplaced. They hate these people for the wrong reasons. It’s almost as if there’s a colossal failure of logic over there that they can’t get past.

This week they’ve been joining the chorus of calls for Stewart Regan to be sacked. They have, they say, multiple bones of contention with him, and one of them is over his handling of the Scottish Cup final. Talk about being distracted from looking at the big picture.

They blame the SFA for “relegating” their club.

Why? It wasn’t the SFA who did that.

Even if you accept the Survival Lie – which we don’t, of course – the governing bodies, the SFA and SPFL both, weren’t in favour of the Third Division plan. They opposed it vigorously. They tried to bully and scare and finally bribe the clubs into going the other way.

It’s the clubs who made the decision; what was the SFA going to do? Ignore it? Over-rule it? Even some of their former players, and officials, believe this nonsense, that somehow it was the SFA who did this to them. Absolute guff.

Stewart Regan is the best friend they’ve ever had at Hampden, except perhaps for Jim Farry. He even let the corrupt Campbell Ogilvie stay in post long after his position had become utterly untenable. Talk to the Resolution 12 guys about the lengths he’s gone to to protect all at Ibrox.

On top of that, the SFA has done everything including bending its own rules to make sure Sevco have had the easiest ride imaginable. They rushed through the invented “temporary license” to get them into the league setup. They made sure the “transfer embargo” still allowed the club to make nearly a dozen signings. The Five Way Agreement came with a corrupt “no title stripping” clause and the Lord Nimmo Smith enquiry was nothing short of an absolute farce.

The SFA did everything it could to ensure a smooth passage for Green and his board. They waived the rules so that Ashley could get a bite, until it no longer suited Sevco. They granted King fit and proper person status so he could become chairman.

Yes, these moves were a disaster for the club. But they were done for its benefit. Some of us have long argued that had the SFA simply followed the rules and checked these guys out and thought it through instead of merely indulging every whim out of Ibrox that things would have been better for the club and its fans … but that’s not the Sevco fans argument at all.

They just hate. Blindly. Without knowing why.

The same applies to the media, who treat every PR release out of there like it’s holy writ. They refuse point blank to investigate any story who’s tentacles reach into Ibrox, partly for fear of upsetting people and partly because so many of them are fans with typewriters who just don’t want the illusion of a rosy garden smashed for them.

If the argument the fans were making was that they’ve been badly served by the press, for its lack of scrutiny of those who’ve hollowed the place out and ripped them off then great; but that’s not what the problem is. These people hated it when the media did expose Whyte, when they said Green was a chancer, when they exposed Ashley’s cynicism and when they’ve occasionally asked King where the money is. They detest media scrutiny.

They see conspiracy everywhere.

These people don’t know who their friends are.

They believe in living in ignorance over being armed with the facts. This is why they are in such a sorry state.

This is why they’ll stay that way.
