Today Follow Follow has published a hysterical piece which deserves to be condemned in the strongest possible terms, by every right minded person in the country.

At a time when football is tearing itself apart over a series of appalling and abhorrent allegations the writer of this piece is throwing out innuendos and tittle-tattle, smearing people and seeking to exploit pain and grief for the most perverse ends of all; football bragging rights.

Don’t let anyone kid you that certain people are seeking “justice for victims” here. They don’t give a shit about the victims. They believe they are the victims and their interest in this subject is all about gaining what they perceive to be revenge against others who they think have wronged them.

This, frankly, is why the notion of them being wronged is so ridiculous; these are abhorrent people who thrive and run on naked hate and nothing more.

The level of their contempt for societal norms, for decency, their willing to dance on the graves of the dead and to make hay out of suffering is a disgrace.

The deranged individual who wrote that piece can’t hide his own hatred; it spews onto the page in a paranoid, unhinged rant that in another context would be hilarious. Here it makes the skin crawl.

I am not going to discuss a single aspect of these matters further; those matters are of too serious a nature to be throwing them around on a forum.

Police investigations are ongoing and I hope they are concluded swiftly, anyone guilty of anything arrested and that prosecutions follow in due course.

Throw the key away. There will be no objections.

I hope no stone is left unturned, that the authorities go wherever the evidence takes them and they deal with anything they find in the correct way.

I know that certain of the gutter rats, the genuine low-life amongst certain fan groups, are all ready to appropriate this issue for the most cynical ends imaginable.

This is a story happening in football, but it’s not a football story and it doesn’t belong here on the blogs. That there are people out there who can’t wait to appropriate it to multiply hate is shameful.

Out of respect for the victims – real respect for them, not the manufactured sort which barely disguises the glee of some of the writers – I am not commenting any further on these matters until the close of the police investigations.

If I choose to comment further after that it’ll not be on a football blog but on one more suited to the discussion.

The manner in which some people have greeted these matters is absolutely hideous. In their own way they are as bad as the perpetrators. To cause all this suffering and pain it takes someone thoroughly sick. To exploit it, rationally, to score points … that’s a different kind of sickness, but no less stomach churning.
