What a response. What a reply. What a Tweet.

Moussa Dembele has delivered his finest moment in a Celtic shirt thus far, and it was done off the park, on the way back from London where an early morning media frenzy had his move to Chelsea bagged, done and the unveiling planned. It wasn’t to be.

Of course it wasn’t to be!

The player had already made it clear that he wasn’t going to be one of those guys, one of those players who agitates for a move, who causes chaos in the dressing room until he gets his way. When a club is offering £40 million for your signature it’s pretty obvious that you’re looking at massively increasing your personal recompense, and the London lifestyle would ordinarily be impossible to turn down … but Moussa ain’t feeling any of that.

This is a guy who knows where he’s at and what the value of our club is. He clearly has a great relationship with the fans. He’s enjoying life here. He knows the money is there, for later, and that if he wants an improved deal he could probably ask his agent to negotiate another two years tomorrow, giving us greater security about his future and any fee and improving his financial position at the same time.

He is patient. He is measured. He is loyal. And he has a sense of humour.

Celtic deserve great credit for resisting such pressure, of course, but we would be wholly unable to if this guy was the sort to bang his own drum. His Tweet, which is a clear reference to the moment in The Wolf of Wall Street when Di Caprio tells his employees and friends that he will refuse the Justice Department offer to drop the charges on him if he walks away “I’m not f@@@@@@ leaving!”, is beautiful, emphatic and hilarious.

I think this guy will be here for the whole of the next campaign; he doesn’t come across like a guy who’s here for the short stay and will work his ticket to get home. The media will report this Tweet, and then ignore it. They will find some way to put a negative spin on it. But you know what?

Tonight he’s given them an answer that no-one can argue with.

We’re lucky to have a guy like this in the Hoops.

And this love affair ain’t over.

It ain’t nearly over.
