Chelsea’s £3 Million Offer For Gordon Is An Insult That Was Never Going To Tempt Celtic.

Chelsea made an offer for Craig Gordon this afternoon, after 24 hours of media speculation.

Typically, of the classless EPL, this bid was derisory. £3 million for an international goalkeeper? In what parallel universe did they think for one second that we’d entertain such a ridiculously low offer? The player is not for sale; Brendan spelled that out last night, bringing the speculation that we might be tempted – I wouldn’t have been shocked, as I said yesterday – to an end, but without disuading the London club.

They clearly didn’t rate him very highly, or their offer would have been more enticing.

Craig Gordon is an international goalkeeper and Champions League player. Chelsea want to sign him to sit on the bench, but they should be under no illusions about that altering his value, as determined by the marketplace. You don’t get a player of that quality for £3 million. They are chancing their arm.

This guy left Scotland the first time for £9 million. Has he got worse in that time? He spent a long time injured, but I think he’s returned strongly.

There is no way he’s worth less than half of that fee.

They are about to let Begovic go for £12 million. To offer us a quarter of that … it’s a contemptible offer from a club that made sure their interest was well leaked to the media in advance of their derisory bid. This is typical of a club from south of the border.

Perhaps they’ve mistaken Celtic’s stance on Moussa, Kieran and others for bluster. Maybe, with all the garbage flying around from Sevco about wanting £6 million for a player not one single club has registered an interest in, they’ve decided that we’re only messing around and that we, like Sevco, are simply trying to encourage bids.

They should be disudaded from such a ridiculous view.

Celtic does not need to sell anyone, and certainly not on the cheap. If Chelsea do want a top class keeper as backup I suggest they check out Sevco’s Wes Foderingham, who The Daily Record compared to Manuel Neuer back in 2015, when he signed. Surely a keeper so highly praised has to be on their list, right?

And they can get him for a meagre six figure sum, with his club desperate for any transfer income.

Again, just a suggestion.

Craig Gordon, on the other hand, is going no place at all, and certainly not for such a paltry fee.
