Sources in England claim that Port Vale have given Sevco an astonishing slap-down tonight over the future of their second choice goalkeeper Jak Alnwick. The English club has confirmed that Sevco has met their release price for the player, but the bid has been rejected. Why?
Because Sevco wants to pay it – £250,000 – by instalments.
A quarter of a million pounds. Over X amount of months, perhaps years. Port Vale will not comment further on the story but it’s embarrassing to say the least. That is such a meagre sum you would think Sevco would be able to afford it.
This ought to have Mark Warburton hiding under the bed. It is humiliating. That their club cannot even conclude a deal for the goalkeeper of a League One team without it resulting in this kind of reversal is astonishing, and whilst most observers still expect that the deal will go through there really are no words for how crass and amateurish this is.
This club keeps on telling the world how big it is, how special it is, how it strives to be a giant.
It acts, constantly, like an organisation that is wholly without a clue, one the Village Idiot wouldn’t even entertain.
The laughter never stops with this lot.
