Adrian Durham has been annoying and offending Scottish football fans for years.

He is a clown and he embarrasses himself and his radio station every time he opens his stupid mouth. We are no longer surprised when this guy makes dumb remarks. Most of his comments are so stupid that it is really impossible to take him even remotely seriously.

He has long had an anti-Celtic agenda, as all his listeners will be well aware.

He’s one of the few guys in the English media who relies on the Scottish press for its information; everyone else down there is well aware that the standard of our journalists makes our players look like world beaters in comparison. I used to think he was uniquely stupid.

But over the last few weeks it has become apparent that he’s not alone.

Whether we’re dealing with a bunch of self-promoting goons using our club and Scottish football as a punching bag or people of such low IQ that they believe half of the guff they come out with I don’t know, but it’s becoming ridiculous, and it’s a weekly occurrence now.

Jason Cundy fired off a few verbal volleys. Then the idiotic preening Simon Jordan. He was followed up by Robbie Savage, and last week it was the turn of Andy Townsend and his stupid comments about how Jermaine Defoe could come up to Scotland at 45 and still score. These people seem to be in competition with one another over who can be the most ignorant, and our club is one of the targets of this.

Some of these people have bought, utterly, into the idea of English football’s superiority, but others have obviously swallowed whole the idea that the game up here is a joke.

As I’ve said, that’s not helped when we have clowns with typewriters up here who talk down our game and write the most shocking stuff about it.

In addition to this, Cundy, Savage, Durham and Jordan are all of the opinion that Sevco can challenge us once they “secure investment”. They can’t be blamed for that per se, as the media here writes similar utter tosh, but this view of our club and the game here won’t stand.

What is it with these people? It can’t simply be done to the arrogance of English football. I mean, I thought our own hacks were bad; these guys make them look like Washington Post journalists. The English sporting press can be the best on this island – The Guardian’s coverage of the sport is almost uniformly superb – but its radio personalities are a full on embarrassment.

I know these guys think there is some value in being controversial, but they don’t really do controversy at all. What they do is puerile, childish and moronic. Townsend’s comments last week were particularly stupid, and insulting to the game up here.

What’s worse is that not one of them has had an original thought; they’re all copying each other and queuing up to have a pop at Chris Sutton, who loves the attention and gives it back to them in spades.

They don’t seem to realise that at times he’s putting out particularly juicy bait and they are snapping at it like turtles.

He defends Scottish football to the hilt, but then he knows what he’s talking about because he and Hartson and others have actually played up here, as opposed to sneering at the standards from south of the border.

You’d think English football had no issues of its own.

In their focus on what goes on up here they are doing their own national game a huge disservice. But they don’t care about that, because they don’t care about football.

They are leeches, parasites, feeding on its margins.

If they did give a damn about the sport they’d treat others in it with more respect.
