Mike Ashley has damaged Sevco further tonight after a judge rejected Sevco’s bid to have the pending case launched by Sports Direct thrown out. That matter is now assuredly heading for the courts and expensive fees notwithstanding the consequences of a negative verdict.

Losing this is quite a calamity for them.

Ashley is taking them to court for violation of the terms of his contract with them. Last year, in a move that was about as ridiculous as King has made since taking over, he arbitrarily denied Sports Direct the right to sell any “Rangers branded” gear.

The company did it anyway, but the furore was such that it denied them a proper shirt launch and a lot of attendant publicity. It has probably cost everyone involved a tidy sum.

Ashley is suing King and the club for that action, both in terms of lost revenues and, probably, for punitive damages as well. The costs could run into millions. There’s no way to tell. He can probably allege some damage to the brand, which will further add to their problems.

Sevco has issued a notice to terminate the current agreement with Sports Direct. It will run out in around six years. Brendan Rodgers contract will have expired and we’ll have won ten in a row by then.

This hasn’t been a good day in Sevconia.
