Great piece of breaking news tonight from Celtic Park; our debutant, Michael Johnston, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea, has this evening put pen to paper and signed a brand new deal with the club. Talk about moving fast.

This is a superb vote of confidence from the young generation in the direction Brendan wants to take the club.

Johnston has been getting a lot of ink lately, and the interest from England was very real. However, he has decided to commit his long-term future to our project rather than go south for the big bucks. What an encouraging sign.

“It’s been a really special day and I’m absolutely delighted,” he said, to the official site.

“I have played for this club for about 10 years and I have supported them my full life so to make my debut and then sign the contract today and commit my future here is unbelievable. It was literally straight after the final whistle. Once I got changed, I went straight in and got the deal signed. I knew it was happening and it all came on the right day. I have committed my future here for a reason. This is where I want to be and hopefully I can get many more appearances under my belt.”

Dare I say that this is a marked contrast from events elsewhere?

Everyone at Celtic believes at the moment. The manager has the fundamentals right, and we’re only going to get stronger under him.

Now all we need – and want – is for Stuart Armstrong to commit.

Once he does that, we can start looking forward to a summer where we just get stronger all the time.
