On a day when all the focus should be on good stuff there is no way I am going to ignore what happened yesterday with Kieran Tierney. It was deplorable. Last night, Stockley tweeted his thanks to the Aberdeen fans for their support during the game and a flat-out denial that what he did was intentional in any way.

But Jayden Stockley is not only a liar, he is an unrepentant thug.

Had he been sent off yesterday – and he should have been; the officials let him off with an out and out assault and a panel has to convene to deal with it – it would have been his fourth red card of the season. For throwing his elbow.

He will forgive us (I don’t care if he doesn’t) if we tell him to stick his denial where the mice can’t get at it.

That denial might mean something – it might well be halfway believable – if he had gone over to Kieran to see if he was alright. It would have sat better had he been repentant after the game, or even sent our player good wishes.

That he didn’t betrays the full intent in the moment, and it reveals him to be a naked aggressor of the most cowardly, despicable sort.

I am glad he didn’t give us a mealy-mouthed apology after the fact. It leaves you in no doubt as to what you are dealing with; indeed it’s exactly what he was on the park to do.

McInnes had a rant at Brendan before the match at what he perceived was our manager’s characterisation of them as a “long ball” team, but that’s exactly the kind of system a hammer thrower like Stockley is there to match. He is the ultimate archetypical long-ball player; a bruiser without an ounce of skill at all, and he was put in the team to “mix it up” and get physical yesterday.

Aberdeen were excellent, in spite of the best efforts of their manager and this clown, to be less than they were. Questions never get asked of McInnes, but Stockley was selected over their top scorer, Rooney. He has six goals in thirty-eight games; Aberdeen fans are fully entitled to ask if they were short-changed by this selection. It is clear to Celtic fans exactly what Stockley brought to the table, and it’s pretty clear to Kieran as well.

This was Aberdeen playing in a cup final, and their manager chose to field an outright ned with a dreadful temperament, instead of their regular scorer, and he was a bomb just waiting to go off. He is only lucky – they both are – that the decision didn’t cost them.

It cost Kieran Tierney, and that’s taken the kid out of the Scotland – England game, which disenfranchises the whole country, Aberdeen fans included.

Jayden Stockley has had ten clubs in six years, the last five of them at League 2 level. This is the shocking truth their fans need to acknowledge and should cast a big shadow over the so-called achievements of their manager. Aberdeen will never win things with a player of this low quality playing up front. The decision to field him should shame McInnes, but perhaps he views this is a case of a job well done; Stockley may have done exactly as he was told.

He is never a footballer in his life.

He is an animal.

The SFA must treat him accordingly and handed him a lengthy ban.

In keeping with the season we’ve had it would be fitting if it were a record breaker.
