Tonight, John “WATP” Gilligan has stepped down from the Sevco board, leaving many observers wondering if this is another sign of trouble in Pandemonium.

Gilligan is one of the key link-men to The Peepul; a “Real Rangers Man” par excellence who knows how to play to the gallery of goons. He will shortly be back amongst them, with Dave King lauding his decision to “go back to being a fan.”

I bet he even charges him for a season ticket.

This comes as King waits to find out when he will have to appear in court in connection with his stunning snub of the City of London Takeover Panel last month. Some of us have been waiting for the shoes to start dropping since then; I doubt he’ll be the last member of the board who leaves.

This, of course, is mirrored by the truly mind-bending state of their official supporters organisation , Club 1872, itself reeling under multiple resignations which early last week left them with a single board member – James Blair; lucky for them he’s also a Sevco director – although two former members of the board were trying to get back in.

I will resist the urge to make jokes about rats climbing onto a sinking ship.

No-one knows if this resignation is connected to the fiasco at Club 1872 or if it’s something else, something perhaps to do with boardroom divisions right at the top, or if it’s a response to King’s suggestion that directors will have to pay even greater costs than in this campaign; it is tempting to suggest that his “plan” to spend all the season ticket money on Caixinha’s fantasy football project hasn’t gone down terribly well with other directors.

Whatever the truth is, Scottish football will not miss Gilligan’s “leadership” or his “cultural” nous. I suspect that Graham Spiers, in particular, will be glad to see him go. Their relationship is said to be fraught, and loaded down with mutual loathing.

But it’s clear that something’s happening behind the scenes at Ibrox and, as per usual, their fans will be the last to know.

Shame for them, isn’t it?
