Craig Whyte has been cleared in his court-case, in a move that was wholly predictable and will now ask serious questions of a number of people including David Murray.

The verdict was delivered in double quick time – the jury only retired this morning – and will send shockwaves through a Sevco support which is now faced with the stunning truth; that their club was headed for the rocks long before he came along, and that a lot of the people connected with that period – and some are still at Ibrox today – are themselves utterly untrustworthy.

It was clear from the start of this case that the prosecution had gone in woefully unprepared.

Their own witnesses contradicted every facet of the case, and the brilliance of Findlay in the defence team is well known.

He had their number from the first.

The verdict was as good as certain, and he knew that when he didn’t even call any defence witnesses; it was the ultimate expression of a man completely at ease in the proceedings and who knew the state had spectacularly failed to make its case.

This is a preliminary reaction; I’ll write about this in more detail now that the case is done and the verdict is in, but for the moment the Sevco fans – and a lot of the hacks – will need a wee period of reflection and adjustment.

The man who many of them accuse of wrecking Rangers will not face legal consequences for doing so … and he was never likely to.

This isn’t the end.

It might be just the beginning.
