The Media Continues To Invent Celtic Transfer Lies Because They’re In The Dark.

Today two Celtic “transfer rumours” went by the boards. In one case, The Atomic Ant is ready to sign for Slavia Prague. We had scouts watching him, but that doesn’t mean we were ever ready to make a bid. £1.2 million would have closed the deal.

That could have come from the petty cash box at Celtic Park.

Had we wanted him, we’d have him.

A second story, that of Charlie Taylor, who is about to sign for Burnley, was an absolute fiction, with no basis in fact whatsoever. Taylor is a left back. Our alleged interest in him had but one purpose; to lend some minor credibility to the raft of nonsensical tales linking young Kieran Tierney with moves here there and everywhere. Izzy is on the verge of signing an extended deal and young KT is committed to the club long term.

As a result we have zero need to sign a left back.

We don’t need one. Any story you read which links us to a player in that role is almost certainly absolute garbage.

John McGinn is a target for English clubs; I am delighted to see Hibs holding out for a decent offer for this young man, even if it means that our interest may go nowhere. Scottish clubs have bowed, scraped and sold to English clubs on our best players for too damned long. McGinn is an outstanding young talent, and I still hope we buy him. But he ought to cost a pretty penny, and I hope Hibs gets what they are due.

It’s the only way we stand a chance of keeping good players in Scotland, that clubs realise full value for them when they are sold.

We may move for McGinn and we may not, but that interest, at least, is very real. When Chris Davies was asked about him today he was non-committal, out of respect to the Easter Road club. He’s not a priority signing; he’s not the one the manager is talking about closing before the first qualifying game, but he’s on the radar. I think he’ll be a Celtic player when the season starts … but we’ll have to pay Hibs the proper money, and the proper respect in the meantime.

Aside from that, the media is hollering and making up nonsense because they have no idea, not in the slightest, what we’re actually up to or who we’re really looking at.

And I hope it stays that way.

When the next signing comes it will come out of a clear blue sky.

We’ll have it done before the media even knows we’re on it.
